Whitney Way Thore - Our Big Fat Fabulous Thread

I read it as meaning the friend asked their own mother. But with the way the south, and moms in general work, no way that mom wouldn't have taken that information to Whitney's.
For clarity, here is the passage I was referring to:

I almost feel bad that Whitney gets upset when this man insults her even though he stuttered out that insult with all the confidence of a wet noodle. She really doesn't feel comfortable in her own body even she couldn't think of a comeback to such a poorly delivered insult.

I think she should've taken the opportunity to realize that she has a problem and try to fix it.

My sympathy for her dies knowing that she has had many opportunities to at least try to control her weight. Take her incident with the trainer for example- he accomodated to her based on her level of fitness and went relatively easy on her. He gave her nutritional advice that in reality should've caused the first 100 pounds to slide off easily. But she disregarded it, binges on fast food all the time and "inexplicably" gained an additional 140 instead.

She's probably insecure because she knows it's mostly her own fault she is as heavy as she is (485 last I checked). Her own show partially exposes the reality behind being morbidly obese in that she has the joints of an arthritic patient. No one at 30 should experience random back pain while picking up a bottle of shampoo. No one at 30 should require their mother to shave their legs for them. At least, no healthy 30 year old should have the majority of Whitney's lameness. Her own show in a way does show that being morbidly obese brings on a lot of additional health issues caused by weight, which are easily fixable by losing at least a hundred pounds.

Will she ever be 130? Absolutely not, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't at least try harder.

She claims that she's still totally healthy even though she looks like a garbage bag full of pudding, and her logic is that she's still able to dance like she did in the viral video.

Yet when she goes to an actual dance class, not one aimed at fatties, she can't keep up and just kind of helplessly wobbles around.

TLC...please stop making this sort of thing seem okay and glamorous.

I don't think any sane person who has ever seen Whitney dance has ever thought her fat jiggling freak show was glamorous.

Fatties watch to feel better about their obesity, fat fetishist watch for obvious reasons and everyone else watches it to gawk and WTF. These reality shows are nothin more than old timey freak shows with a PC veneer brought into the comfort of living rooms.

Fat people claiming eating disorders like bulemia or anorexia is just to gain oppression points. It's because that for the most part, society understands that there is a mental illness with those conditions and to a certain extent, out of the control of an anoroxic.

Fat people have a name for their own eating disorder and it's called obesity.

Society does not consider the obese mentally ill, just that that have no self-control. We could argue that point, but I agree with society. It's not a mental illness, it's laziness and poor eating habits.

However, in today's society, it's always best if you can blame your terrible habits on something outside your control. That way, you don't have to do anything about it.

@Barbarella to be fair, I think a lot of mental illness goes into eating yourself into being a quarter of a ton. Depression at the very least, and maybe unaddressed trauma. Quite a few people on 600lbs life claimed they were raped or molested in their youth. But mostly, yes, I'd say it's a deficiency in character as it is in Whitney's case.

Also, I have never encountered someone with a legit ED like bulimia or anorexia claiming to have felt relief when they were found out. If anything that's stressful because you have this voice in your head telling you it knows what's best for you and these people are going to fuck it up now. They go through great lengths to conceal it.

Thank god this thread finally exists. I tried watching a single episode of her show, and had to change the channel halfway through because of her attitude. There's a stereotype that really big girls are always bitchy and whiny, and she really confirms it with her behavior. I feel so bad for her token gay friend and her family, the shit they must put up with is extraordinary.

I see people on Tumblr praise her like she's a goddess, especially shit like this:

Many anorexics binge eat, but bingeing and fasting doesn't count as anorexia if you starved yourself for a day and then binged for ten years.

I'm sure Whitney has felt disgusted enough with herself to make herself throw up or not eat for a day. Some people swing from one self destructive behavior to another instead of learning healthier habits. However, Whitney clearly doesn't have the compulsion to consistently limit her intake.

I have to echo @entropyseekswork on this one. Being overweight may be due to lack of discipline, but being super morbidly obese? That's not just sitting on the couch eating chips and cookies weight. I find it unlikely that a person gets to 500 pounds without some serious mental health issues. Eating yourself to that weight is pretty much textbook self-harm.

No doubt. I know of some morbidly obese people who aren't noticeably unhinged mentally but many are. Heck, an army buddy of my grandpa's ballooned up after his time overseas (tour in Korea/early Vietnam)because he didn't want to get drafted again.

Shudder, tbh I don't actually watch Whitney's show, I just find it to irritating and her so repulsive. I've caught 10 minutes of the show in snatches over the last two years, get subjected to the trailer promos and catch stuff online. But as I was just flipping through the channels I see the show is on, and since I'm following this thread, I decided I should watch it. Nope, still totally intolerable and once again could only tolerate 10 min max.

This episode's script was to focus on some bullshit dance class competition thingy? Watching her dance class fatties flail around is so fucking ridiculous. They mix in random healthy, thin women in the class which just magnifies how silly the cows look trying to do leg kicks and fat girl impressions of grand jete. (I'm assuming the normal girls go to the class just for a chance to get on TV/promote themselves.)

Producers are getting inventive with their ways of scripting in fake boyfriends for one/two episodes.

Has Whitney had one legit boyfriend during this show or since she became a land whale? I think every single one of them have been either hired actors or friends willing to go along with a facade for some sweet reality TV money. Since the bitch isn't ever going to lose weight she should just get her self a feeder fetishist and be done with it. I guess its hard finding on telegenic enoug, and not creepy, for cable TV.

I wonder if her friends are even legit.
She has not one redeeming quality and sucks the joy and life out of everything.

Supposedly she has known them for years, I think that might be true but they are paid to be there.
