WHO declares highest alert over monkeypox

The monkeypox outbreak has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization.

The classification is the highest alert that the WHO can issue and follows a worldwide upsurge in cases.

It came at the end of the second meeting of the WHO's emergency committee on the virus.

More than 16,000 cases have now been reported from 75 countries, said WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

There had been five deaths so far as a result of the outbreak, he added.

There are only two other such health emergencies at present - the coronavirus pandemic and the continuing effort to eradicate polio.

Dr Tedros said the emergency committee had been unable to reach a consensus on whether the monkeypox outbreak should be classified as a global health emergency.

However, he said the outbreak had spread around the world rapidly and he had decided that it was indeed of international concern.

"The WHO's assessment is that the risk of monkeypox is moderate globally and in all regions, except in the European region, where we assess the risk as high," he added.

I m gonna go against the ethos of A&N here.

I m glade we have twitter and people conditioned on social media are openly and publicly talking about all the hot sweaty man on man sex they have and then go on about all the awful details of having the pox.

Otherwise it would be all about toilet seats etc

“How could this happen to me after the 47 dude piss orgy?!? I’m a victim!”

During the interview with the Post, Walensky added that the two cases link to households “from the men who have sex with men community.” Investigations are ongoing to understand the connections to that community.

“Both of those children are traced back to individuals who come from the men-who-have-sex-with-men community, the gay men’s community,” Walensky told the newspaper in a virtual interview.

One big problem the gay community had, and I do sympathize with them on this, do you take the gay men who are HIV+ and give them support while bringing youths around them and pointing and saying "see these men its bad you dont want to be like them"
Why are fags excluded from this? People get drunk, drive, and end up in a wheel chair and we teach from that. A fat person overeats and winds up with diabetes, we don't worry about "stigmatizing" fatties when we tell pre-diabetic people to put down the fucking fork. I have scars and injuries I'll be the first to tell people were much worse because my dumb ass did not wear a helmet. We do this with things that require a lot less active decision-making and participation than your average pozzed fag.

You guys all laff now

But I can remember a time when AIDS was just a gay thing and a big joke among normals.

Then some fag gave it to his whore of a wife and suddenly it wasn't just killing fags anymore and stopped being funny.

These things always make it into the mainstream population eventually.

Hell, I remember not too long ago I was told a story from a friend about some gay man they knew who was having constant one-night stands, and eventually, he got HIV from a person he had sex with one night with the other guy leaving the country after.

When I heard the story, my immediate thought was how in this day and age, with how long HIV has gone around, it's irresponsible to continue with that kind of sexual activity without proper protection, especially in the 2010s.

It's like double-secret probation. And nobody gives flying fuck one. The WHO, CDC, and health departments, not to mention government/judiciary/media/law enforcement, all over, have forfeited the people's trust, after the way this Chinese Flu thing has been fucked up beyond anything imaginable.
The fun part is they still think the lack of trust is because npeople think the kung flu was fake or some shit.

Not that the virus was overblown and the overblown pandemic response to it was insufficient - which then draws horrifying parallels when we DO have something that's an actual problem.
Like, if we had an actual threat, New York's first response would be to make mass graves and dump the infected into nursing homes. For example.

And California's would be to spend half of it bitching politically until one of them gets it, then halfasses mandates forever and then halfasses removing the mandates for a year. Citing the CDC when convenient.

My guess is it's the younger generation of gays. They're oblivious to the havoc that AIDS wrought in the 1980s because they weren't even born or too young to really grasp what happened. Then again... the older ones are likely just as guilty by failing to warn them of the danger. Restraint is not a strong suit of sexual degenerates.

Usually from what I've seen or heard, a lot of the younger gays trash the gays from the 1980s because they're problematic or something, so I doubt they'd listen.

I'm certain the generational animosity exists even amongst fagolas. Hell, I probably stick out like a sore thumb myself as a gay millenial because I at least try to avoid every single harmful promiscuous habit having done my baseline research on AIDS/HIV of the 80s. Like hell do I wanna ever fall into the same trap that my generational peers are doing with Monkeypox being the end result. Shit may not be lethal (yet) but it should send a damn warning to either stick with one clean partner or don't fucking bother.

Yes, definitely. It's crazy to me in this day and age, with all the STD horror stories that exist, how anyone can fuck multiple people without covering up and protecting themselves. Especially if it's some person you don't even know and probably won't see again.

It's Darwinism at this point.

The funny thing is, it's weird to me that that's considered homophobic. It's common sense. The same can be said of straight people too. Don't fuck strangers all the time without a condom.

Since when is health advice homophobic?

🤷‍♂️

I can think of a few topical treatments that would likely make the pain from the lesions they are experiencing significantly less so, but I think the severe pain might be one of the few things that will keep some of these people from continuing their high risk behavior, so I think I'll keep it to myself.

If you're talking about Caposi's Sarcoma, it was caused by nitride "poppers" abuse, not AIDS.

This is completely incorrect. Kaposi's sarcoma manifests as a result of a failure of the immune systems internal surveillance system as it is progressively weakened by HIV.

naming it "monkeypox" would create stigma in the society against monkeys. call it what it is - PRIDEPOX
I suggested "Junepox" about a month back because you kind of have to think about it, it went worldwide big time in June, and June is pride month.
