World of Warcraft

People like to harp about community, but really, that's the only reason why you'd play WoW at all. As a solo game it's boring and grindy. LFD/LFR really did away with that. Now we treat other players as disposable assets with only a gear score.
I once had a guild leader that was....I guess obsessed with me and my friend.

His name was Grail, the glorious MT for BC and WotLK. And he was terrible. His nickname was Grail the Frail. He was a drunk Texan who could only tank down a stack of waffles at Waffle house. And he always lost his lighters. He was a real character. His wife was normal, and just played a passable arcane mage. They seemed to get along well. This all is just to make Grail seem somewhat more amusing.

ANYWAYS.

My friend played a ret pally. Back when no one played ret pally. I swapped between OT and Fury DPS. I came on the condition that my friend be allowed to join the main raiding group. I'd tank, and Grail decided that my friend would heal. In PvP gear. I think you can tell this is going to be a shitshow already. Because healing in PvP gear isn't a good idea.

We lasted about 3 weeks. Then we kept wiping. Because my friend can't heal for shit. Grail, of course, said he was doing fine. And I was doing fine. It was literally everyone else's fault except mine and my friend's. The guild disbanded pretty quickly in BC because Grail would yell at everyone else.

WotLK time, kiddies. Same shit. Grail somehow ran into me during an instance. One thing leads to another, and we're back in the saddle. Except my friend is DPS this time. Shit actually goes well. Until Grail loses it because his wife left the guild. He just disbanded it at 4pm one day. No one saw it coming.

I'll never forget Grail. He held me in the highest regard. What a fuckwit.

My past experiences with guilds have mostly been terrible. In most cases it's because of (raid)drama (like people just don't show up for raiding even if they signed on) or being toxic, circlejerking or people with egos bigger than their DPS or just being bad. I never stayed in one longer than a couple of months I think. Doesn't matter anyway since I quit all that premade raiding business quite some time ago, it just doesn't work when you work full time like me.

Nowadays I just play with people I actually know.

The best one was the one I joined when I was still new, and they taught me quite a lot of stuff.

There is absolutely no incentive to make a guild but to have power and access to loot. Who makes guilds that are actually succesful? Certainly not the guy going "Looking for casuals :)". Also why most guild leads (who usually tank as well) end up being absolute dog shit at actually managing a guild: They just want to be Kungen for their era, having little to do with the guild but being the face.

The few succesful guilds I've been in had a generic loud charismatic main tank and someone smart doing the management, planning and recruiting. Except nowadays everyone just wants to be the cool Illidan guy who makes a guild called <Kappa Fourhead> to get all the cool loot. Wipe 3 times in a row and half the guild quits.

I've been around since vanilla and practically only consider raiding if the guild functions without loot being a factor. So, 1 in 50 is eligible. Usually it's just a matter of how long you can deal with "ding xD" types or elitists who're a mix of twitch-chatters and 4chan visitors. I started playing on an RP realm because it was frankly inspiring how alive and engaged people were, not only roleplay-wise. Lo behold the top 3 mythic guilds all had elitist anime shitlords in their raid teams who "ironically" ran around ERPing with each other.

So basically there's a sweetspot between "I want loot" and "I want friends" where you actually enjoy doing content at an average rate without being stuck in normal mode. Outside that, little in Legion to do but getting the artifact skins unlocked for use in the future when they're unobtainable.

There was a time when RP realms were at least somewhat of a bastion against the autism and faggotry of the rest of the game, but those days are long gone. I've just recently quit for good, for the above reasons, and I think it might be for good.

Guild drama is the greatest. I love hearing those stories.

There was some faggot DH who just couldn't believe me I had my first major ability unlock (I forgot what they're called) on my weapon before him, this was at the very start of Legion. He was a super tryhard and got really mad when I said this in guildchat. He went on a 15 minute spregout how I'm lying and it's bullshit etc. even after linking a screencap in chat. We all just laughed it off.

He later left the guild during an Emerald Nightmare raid, saying how we're all fucking casuals and bad, then he logged off, joined some other guild and kept talking shit about us in general and we still laughed about. He then changed this name and hopefully died from AIDS.

Oh, it's always fun in hindsight. I've had someone try to put together a more serious raid group in my old guild. The guy who said something about was then let into raid group, booted from the guild, half the decent dps and healers immediately leave, I decide to jump ship later, and then I see a drunken discord post by the old raid leader telling me to go fuck myself at 4am a few days later. I'd provide caps I found later of the gayest, minsingest, self important sounding motherfucker in said guild complementing the old lead about his "Mexican Fertility", but I'm shit with photoshop.

I played with a guild as a stand in for raids years ago, the GM and the Raid Leader were divorced single women, and the raid team were all youngish guys. I found out later the weird sexual jokes during the entire raid was because the raid leader regularly flew a random guy from the raid team to her house to bang every month or so. She had almost been through the entire 10 man raid team.

There isn't something cool like any in-game items related to this right?

Really, anything done with TRUE friends, is a million times better. Though you shouldn't mistake people that are your "friend" for what they can get out of you, for true friends, that care about YOU.
The people that are considered toxic, are the ones that have no, or false friends, and they usually lash out because their accomplishments in-game are greater to them than the one's outside of the game and it's the only ones they think people would notice.
A person's value is not based on how competitive they are.
It's best to cut off those that only use you, and then remember to only have true friends. Be kind to others and try to connect to them, and hopefully one of them will connect to you, and then you have a friendship. Though most people will push others away because of how toxic they themselves are.
But you should never give up on humans and caring/helping, and you should never resort to anger or hate when someone is being toxic to you.
Simply remember that they are still blind.

I like WoW but holy shit, some of the backstory can get hilariously fucked up. Like, DeviantArt levels of fucked up. "Someone on the writing staff may have jerked off to this" levels of fucked up.

Like basically anything to do with the dragons once you go digging. Rape, Murder, RapeMurder, sex slavery, the list goes on.

Sintharia was once the prime consort of Neltharion, who later came to be known as Deathwing. She gave birth to some of Deathwing's most despicable children including Nefarian and his sister, Onyxia. After Neltharion's madness overtook him and the rest of the black dragonflight, the newly disfigured Deathwing attempted to mate with his consorts, causing Sintharia a great deal of pain and leaving behind scars and marks that would continue to burn for (at least) the rest of her natural life. Sintharia was the only mate known to have survived.
:story:

It is revealed that she's giving birth to a clutch of black dragon eggs that are to be turned into twilight dragon eggs, performing the duties once held by Alexstrasza in Grim Batol. Sinestra's fate is ultimately to be an egg factory for Deathwing and the Twilight Cult, producing black dragon eggs to be turned into twilight eggs.
:pinetar:

Nefarian:
Upon the return of his father and the Shattering that resulted, Nefarian was brought back to life as a rotted abomination, and descended further into Blackrock Mountain, where he set up a laboratory full of new (and mostly failed) experiments - including reanimating his sister Onyxia.

Basically, black dragons in WoW are all crazy assholes.

I think they threw this in because some writer wanted to include their fetishes and they knew the majority of players would never see that shit in the first place.

Death by fucking Dragon Snu-Snu. I can't believe it.

Shit, DW is mostly made out of lava and steel, I can believe it.

I mean, you'd think sex-murder would cut into his "causing the apocalypse" time, though. Deathwing needs to get his priorities straight, the Old Gods aren't paying him to bust a nut!

Though, after literally dying, I imagine they're just not paying him at all, really.

So Classic launches in two weeks, and we just got access to claim our character names today. Are there any Kiwis out there planning to play classic?

I was thinking if we had enough people that were interested we could start a guild? Let me know if you are interested, if you're planning on playing, or if you think I'm a stupid nigger and should stfu.

Edit: I forgot to add this https://www.avoidstreamers.com/. This is a great resource that shows where streamers have said they will be playing. So make sure you avoid them if you want to.

I reserved a Warrior named Fartbox on the Pagle server. I kinda have to play now as a matter of principle.
