Worst Redesigns

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Speaking of airlines, I thought that Hawaiian Airlines's newest logo change that they did in 2017 was unnecessary. Here's the logos for comparison:

This is the Pualani logo (flower of the sky) that Hawaiian Airlines introduced in 1973.

Here is the updated Pualani logo that was introduced in 2001.

And finally, here is the newest logo that Hawaiian Airlines introduced in 2017. To me, the lack of the flower in the background, and the long hair on the right side of her head being visible, makes the woman look more like a mainlander.
The last one is unnecessarily bad but ngl I thought the first one was a shrimp with a scorpion stinger for a good 5 seconds

Oh sweet I can add to this!

Furbys were redesigned a while ago to try and make people buy them again, because nostalgia has ruled the collective media for a while now.

51dJuSQqqWL._AC_.jpg These fuckers have digital eyes now!!

yayomg-furby-connect-3.gif And then they made "Furby Connect", because toys that connect to apps or bluetooth is necessary.

1087089_Furby_11_bb1ac4e3007d8f5c5f848ec794d1a625.jpg The classic, yet creepy, original. Although I will admit now as I've gotten older I've found myself wanting one for collector's sake now. I wish I still kept mine when I was a kid.

God, that's hideous. Why did they give him teeth?

His 3D Pac Man World design is leagues better.
Man Pacman World 2 was the shit, I would say Pacman World 3 is the best game out of all the trilogy but Pacman World 2 had a way better villain. (He is probably the most badass Pacman villain even if his name is "Spooky")

Anyways talking about Pacman World and it's villains, does anyone remember Toc-Man? The robot clone of Pacman that was built by a lonely ghost that wanted to be liked (without realizing that ghosts hate/fear Pacman) you know that one.

He had a pretty shitty redesign in Pac-Man World Rally but it was still somewhat close to the original design.

But they fucking massacred my boy in Pacman World 3

Little reminder that there's a Best Redesign thread as well. I like how this is getting love as well.

If you're familiar with EA Sports games, they would share the same branding on a yearly basis.

Example: here's their title template from 2005 to 2013.

Their template for their sports game for '21 are just images plastered next to each other.

That just looks lazy, especially from a million dollar company.

If you think of what many Democratic presidents have done since his time, Nixon wasn't that bad at all.
I was saying that since Nixon, the Republican Party lost their way.

The PlayStation 3. Now THIS one is a tricky one.

On the one hand, the original design was bulky and prone to hardware failure. But, I like the overall aesthetic and built in backwards compatibility. (With certain models. It was removed for price reductions.)

I like how smaller and lighter this model is. And the use for buttons for power and eject. But the lack of BC hurts. And it lacks personality.

This is just plain awful. One of the worst console redesigns I've seen yet. Disc slide tray sounds cheap, buttons are smaller, it can't even sit evenly. It wobbles on one side.

Any of the new overwatch designs are way too cluttered and overdetailed imo. Less is more.View attachment 2250174View attachment 2250176View attachment 2250172
It reminds me of Michael Bay Transformers.

To add to this thread Xenosaga has a weird bad redesign followed by a great redesign.

The first game had very prominent anime style:
xenosagaep1pic_091514.jpg

Followed by the second game bad redesign that tried to be more realistic and gave everyone narrow eyes and just looked off:

The third game blended the anime design and the real design and looked best:

Not really an official redesign per se, but I’m pissed the Bay TMNT movie didn’t use this Shredder Design.View attachment 2268152
It’s a great update to Shreddy’s already well known design, and has major 03 Shredder vibes, which itself was a great update for Shredder.View attachment 2268155
But nOOooo we needed the stupid blade shooter arms.
Reminds me.

Holy mother of God.

The designs and logos for The Sims 4, and it's Expansions/Game Packs/Stuff Packs/Kits/DLC/etc., are all massive downgrades in general, compared to the previous Sims games. As an example, here's the game covers for the various Pet-related Expansion Packs in the series:

1624058014019.png 1624058033667.png 1624058064111.png 1624058078755.png

And here's another example, with the University-themed Expansion Pack covers:

1624058787158.png 1624058805194.png 1624058822783.png

Also, notice how the subtitle for each Expansion Pack. i.e. "Pets", had it's own unique font for TS1, TS2, and TS3, but EA chose to use just one font for their Expansions for TS4, presumably out of laziness, or being cheap.

Not to mention the original game cover for The Sims 4 base game was changed, and the original one was already lackluster to begin with, as shown below:

Original Cover:

1624058142173.png

And the Current Cover:

1624058167509.png

Notice how the first TS4 cover doesn't have children on it, and the new cover doesn't have elders on it either. Then again, given how TS4's devs pushed for the Young Adult/Adult life stage gameplay, while making the other stages severely lacking, i.e. Teens being the same height as Adults, them changing the game cover like that was inevitable.

The same font lacks personality. Like it all blends together.

Game Boy Advance from SP to Micro.

Ugly.

Remember when EA made quality, arcade sports titles like NBA Street, SSX and Def Jam?

Then EA decided to go corporate during the 7th generation and just abandon any risk or sense of quality with later entries?

Yeah. EA Sports Freestyle didn't quite catch on.

I remembered back then, someone made a mock avatar of the EA Sports BIG logo, by making it EA Sucks BIG instead.

When did EA lose their pedigree as a reliable game developer? I thought it was when they implemented Ultimate Team.

Niche game, who remembers Def Jam Vendetta and Fight for NY?

1624217900325.png

Basically a hip hop themed arcade fighting game with crazy finishers, four player multiplayer and fast paced gameplay.

The last game in that franchise was Def Jam: Icon.

Now remove all of what I mentioned before and try to "innovate" the fighting game genre. Two players, mediocre story, slower gameplay, ugly graphics.

This can explain it better than I can.

IIRC, the person that made that EA Sucks BIG avatar was back in the 2000s, when The Sims 2 was a thing. Although the game itself is considered by most to be the best in the series, it did have a lot of major bugs, some to the point of corrupting your game save. Some of those bugs include:

-The infamous "Jump Bug", where Sims would sometimes reset when they try to talk to each other.

-The numerous ways that you can corrupt your save. Deleting tombstones, and using the DeleteAllCharacters cheat, are big no-nos because of that.

-The Bon Voyage Expansion Pack had a major bug where the game would endlessly create Tour Guide and Pickpocket NPCs, causing neighborhood corruption. That expansion was also the first to include SecuROM (which is the back-then version of the Denuvo DRM, IIRC), which the community absolutely shitted on EA for adding that. EA would also include SecuROM in Spore, which was part of the reason why Spore became one of the most pirated games back in the day. Do also note that Sony was the developers of SecuROM, and that was after they got flak for including rootkits in music CDs.
