We're Going Indie!

We’re thrilled to announce that Toys for Bob is spinning off as an independent game development studio!

Over the years, we've inspired love, joy, and laughter for the inner child in all gamers. We pioneered new IP and hardware technologies in Skylanders. We raised the bar for best-in-class remasters in Spyro Reignited Trilogy. We’ve taken Crash Bandicoot to innovative, critically acclaimed new heights.

With the same enthusiasm and passion, we believe that now is the time to take the studio and our future games to the next level. This opportunity allows us to return to our roots of being a small and nimble studio.

To make this news even more exciting, we’re exploring a possible partnership between our new studio and Microsoft. And while we’re in the early days of developing our next new game and a ways away from making any announcements, our team is excited to develop new stories, new characters, and new gameplay experiences.

Our friends at Activision and Microsoft have been extremely supportive of our new direction and we’re confident that we will continue to work closely together as part of our future.

So, keep your horns on and your eyes out for more news. Thank you to our community of players for always supporting us through our journey. We can't wait to share updates on our new adventure as an indie studio!

Talk to you soon!

The number one cope the Xbots will use is that Game Pass helps indie developers. According to the CEO of Moon Studios the Game Pass only benefits Microsoft.

Does this surprise literally anyone? Microsoft probably pays the developers once after the game reaches a specific amount of players. These socialist corporate cucks probably thought that Microsoft actually shares their earning with the developers.

Game Pass was always a bad idea and it benefits no one, not even Microsoft because their numbers are constantly decreasing. :story:

A full independent audit of Game Pass would probably cause shareholders or the board to request termination of the service. Or at the very least expose the service as being purely a drain on Microsoft, Xbox, and gaming as a whole. And cause enough people to question what the true purpose of the service actually is considering that it is a black hole for money.
Interesting to hear someone come right out and say that Gamepass hurts their sales.
But it hurts Xbox and Microsoft as well. As well as consumers. It benefits no one.

There were rumors that Microsoft was planning to take over their gaming division. I bet Phil somehow managed to find a way to weasel his way out of that situation for the time being. They decided to release some under-performing games on other platforms as a compromise.

I'm convinced Xbox executives are like congressmen. They're all given large paychecks to fail and piss away money.

Gamepass exists just to crush the competition. Just like Walmart selling everything at a loss to force the smaller stores out of business.

It's a classic strategy. If Sony and Nintendo are retarded enough to allow Gamepass in their systems it's going to work very well.

Microshit brought Gamepass on PC to try to destroy Steam, it didn't work, but that was their idea.

I don't think that's it.

The reality is that software tie-in rate for most hardware is very low, that is the average console buyer ends up purchasing <10 games through the life of the console. That's gross $600 revenue for ten $60 games, which would be bested by the same average person subscribing to GamePass for 5 years or preferably 7 years of the console life. That was the business case behind it.

The catch is that the long tail that purchases a ton of games stops doing that which they hope to make up for by getting those that buy extremely few games to buy gamepass for some reason. That's probably where the issue is for Microsoft -- that's not working out so well.

And then for independent game studios they effectively pay for their games development by taking the GamePass deal but they don't make money long term which especially sucks if the game does well. This can be offset by sales on other platform which hopefully GamePass helps spur, again doesn't seem like it's working out so well.

that might be how they tried to explain it, but he's not wrong. the endgoal is to get everyone (or at least the majority of the market) onto gamepass to capture the market, or when everybody does it be the biggest fish in the pond. then you can dictate terms and what are you gonna do, play something not on gamepass when almost everything is?

lot of ventures work that way, the idea is to piss away (cheap) investor capital now to later "own" it when it will pay dividends - or makes you a juicy target to get bought out. uber and netflix were/are operating the same way, it's just part of techbro culture.
it's the same for the streaming shit btw, besides the obvious "you'll own nothing" - if you own nothing, where do you go to get your entertainment fix? or look at it this way: if you buy a new pc for your business, what operating system and office suite is it gonna run? it doesn't really matter that windows hardly makes money - you gonna use it anyway, and everything else that comes with it.

What's there not to get
I don't get why Sonyggers are suddenly viewing wasting money on Sea of Thieves as a win against Microsoft.

I don't get why they would expect a game that is 8 years old to have pre orders at all.

I don't get why they would expect a console with a smaller userbase to have more users playing a game.

JK I get it, Sonyggers gonna be Sonyggers

Having Microshills and Sonyponies in one room is already bad news from the start but holy shit

Its been on PC for just as long, too, and I don't ever remember anyone caring.

I don't even think Nintendo fans celebrated like that when Final Fantasy VII came to Switch, and that would have made much more sense. They could have been all "Final Fantasy 64 is finally in its rightful place, on Nintendo, after 22 years". But no, none of that happened.
