Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

Bro I'm so fucking confused.
Basically, there was some internal meeting a few days ago among the Xbox division or group or whatever, so a lot of the leakers are now back pedaling.

Biggest thing I am reading from this meeting is that there will be cross platform games, but not "major 1st party" games or something, and that they are going to continue to produce hardware.

There's also a lot of speculation about what else might have been said at the meeting.

Edit: Tom Henderson has been posting and deleting tweets for 6 hours I guess, and he now says "all things are being considered and discussed" in regards to cross platform.

tl;dr: Game Journos and Leakers, as always, don't know what the fuck they're reporting on.

I thought the whole drama got started from Phil Spencer saying that he wanted to put Game Pass on "every screen possible", meaning that PS5 and the Switch could very well get their own version of GP, and the fact that Phil kept dropping subtle vague hints about it these last few months sure didn't help matters either.

Some of the speculation is that something like that *is* in the works/close to being finalized and it's the reason he didn't shoot down the Starfield rumors off the bat and insisted on having his "business update" next week.

Some of the speculation is even that Gamepass is going to be part of Switch 2 and that they're waiting closer to an announcement to say anything.

But I heavily stress this is all speculation by redditards based on the leaks that Starfield is now *not* a sure thing for Playstation 5.

Next week is going to be very interesting.

I'll say this: all these speculation videos about THE END OF XBOX are fucking annoying. One random YouTuber acting doom and gloom for a brand is, how you say, serious cope. They'll likely age like milk by next week.

Honestly, it would be hilarious if he told everyone this just so they wouldn't immediately quit only to announce they are done making Xboxes at this business update or whatever.
and then go where? :story:

even competent people get laid off, and MS is full of DIE retards and H1Bs top to bottom.

No, this current round started when Hi-Fi Rush going multiplat started leaking out a week ago and then SoT stuff as well. Then a bunch of (maybe?) fake things about Halo, Forza, MFS, etc. Regardless of what they're saying, they shadow announced a Banjo game in development, which can only make money on a Nintendo system, and refused to put any Xbox branding on Blade, even after games reporters pushed them to. I think this is a dumb idea, aside from online mulitplayer focused games, but it surely has to be happening now. You can't open the door but only let one cat out.

I actually wouldn't mind an Xbox one for the BC, I just wish they'd add more titles.

When is their announcement anyway?

Has it been officially scheduled?
It has not. So some time within the next six days. People are guessing Wednesday, probably out of laziness since thats the leaked date for the next Nintendo Direct.

I've been hearing Xbox is doomed for 20 years now.
This is different. As Microsoft are signalling the Xbox brand's death themselves. No more Xbox Game Pass it will be Microsoft Game Pass. Moving exclusive games to other platforms. Massive overspending on publishers and franchises with almost nothing to show for it. Starfield being the premier game of this generation of Xbox consoles. Their top franchises stagnating or dying. Forcing consumers off of physical and stripping everyone of game ownership.

This is by far the most unhealthy the console brand has been probably in its lifetime other than RROD. And the whole RROD issue was done with Microsoft being open and honest with consumers and eating the cost of repairs themselves. All we get from MS now is corporate speak and endless deflection and stalling. There is a lack of confidence from everyone.

Its still better than the One lead up and launch period. The only difference is that it took awhile for non-gameplayers to notice and by then it was too late and they had already brought the thing. It seems like they were not going to be fooled again even though the Series X, on paper anyway, was a very good prospect back in 2020.

No more Xbox Game Pass it will be Microsoft Game Pass.
They did use to call their currency "Microsoft Points", it was never "Xbox Points" because they were still trying to make Games for Windows a thing. I figure the Microsoft Game Pass name is so it makes more sense on Windows. There's also Microsoft Game Studios, which became Xbox Game Studios back in 2019.

Moving exclusive games to other platforms.
There's money to be made, especially overseas where Xbox is unequivocally a joke.

Forcing consumers off of physical and stripping everyone of game ownership.
Discontinuing physical copies is a pretty strange thing to do mid-generation.

My predictions: (if anyone cares)

  • Xbox is going all digital. New console is digital only and will be a few different XSX skus and one new slim/X/Pro version of the Series X
  • Series S discontinued
  • Gamepass day 1 games exist on xbox console, not on PC
  • Gamepass comes to more platforms but Xbox gets the better deal
  • Ex-third party games (Starfield, TES 6) launch multi plat
  • Microsoft reveal their own VR headset; Avowed and Indian Jones are launch games.
VR makes sense for microsoft; All digital, no physical.

My guesses:

Xbox continues to get games "first" aside from Activision stuff, but not locked into the system and will receive eventual ports depending on "market and developer needs."
Hi Fi Rush coming to literally everything. Switch, PS5, Steam, EGS. This is hardly a guess at all as dataminers have proved that as of a month ago this was the plan. Stick this one in free space.
Sea of Thieves coming too. This is the other game that gets consistently mentioned.
A third game gets announced as well at the same time of the others, don't know what it is, maybe Forza, maybe maybe MFS, maybe they get stuck with something like the last Gears game.
Unspecified future games coming as well! Though no names are dropped, its everything Bethesda except for Redfall (which will stop being updated pretty soon.)
Behind the scenes it is up to each team to decide whether to be multiplat or not. All Bethesda and ABK games end up being multiplat, the rumored Banjo game comes to everything as well, over time only failures get left behind as Xbox only.
Phil Spencer or whoever is in the video makes a statement that Microsoft strongly believes in Xbox's future and will continue to support it.
No hardware change announced at this time. If the Cuck X all digital corpo cuckold edition comes out it will be revealed elsewhere, this really isn't the place for it. The shift away from physical won't be announced here either. discs are still on shelves as of today and you don't want to discourage people from picking up the regular series X, best to just do that stuff behind the scenes and just not print discs going forward.

For what its worth, whoever made this decision either thinks that Microsoft has a strong enough on console product that it won't kill Xbox sales or doesn't care about Xbox's future and thinks Gamepass can find other ways into consumer's monthly bill pile. I disagree. You choose one console over another for its exclusives, or its ecosystem, and the Xbox user experience has by most reports been behind Playstation's for nearly a decade now. It really is going to be going out there with both of its legs cut off, especially outside of North America.

Random Thought: The real reason they would cancel the XSX refresh is because there are too many unsold Series X on the market still.

I heard that they put them on sale for 350 during the holidays and they didn't sell. I didn't even know tbqh, I probably would have bought one if I had known at the time.

I've heard various theories that there's a schism in MS between people who want to go multilateral and those who don't. Supposedly Phil doesn't and someone is leaking info, which forced MS' hand to talk about this now rather than at whatever replaces E3.

I think Xbox is going mostly mult-plat.
They won't stop making Xboxes to appeal to collectors.
Seems pretty likely that Xbox will get titles first and other systems later.

I think we'll be seeing some high profile execs leaving MS soon.

Look, this is the biggest thing a console maker can do to discourage consumer confidence short of announcing the entire thing's end. It is a given that there's lots of people on the hardware and advertising side of things that hate this because it indirectly threatens their jobs. The only question to me is whether this is coming from the beancounters within MGS or if its from Satya Nadella, himself, and my bet is the later.
