Xbox Game Studios Stupidity Hate Thread Game Pass Edition

I really don't get it. It was a written and rehearsed podcast and they all looked like shit during it. Why the fuck wouldn't they just lay all this out in a tweet or a press release two weeks ago?

Do I believe that most of these leakers are full of shit and just making assumptions? Absolutely. But this whole stunt just makes Microsoft and Xbox look retarded. Either they wasted time and money putting this thing together for absolutely no benefit, or they truly are running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

What an absolute PR fuck up

The only thing that's obvious is that Microsoft wants their games on more platforms instead of less. They're breaking down the boundaries bit by bit while trying to reassure the fanatics that the line in the sand will not be moved for a fifth time, at least for now

I guess Xbox IS that irrelevant to where they NEEDED to make a spectacle out of nothing for PR purposes. If anything, something like this may have HURT Xbox's reputation as a brand. Imagine people thinking about buying an Xbox, only to find speculation that "Xbox is dying" only to have said brand not publicly address those concerns.

It would've been better to announce a roadmap of which Activision titles would arrive to Game Pass within a short time frame. Call of Duty could easily push Game Pass/Xbox sales.

It's really funny that I went to search for it, and I found like 5 PlayStation channels live streaming their reactions to this video.

Playstation users give more of a shit about Xbox than Xbox users at this point.

Edit: This was dumb. This could have been a fucking tweet weeks ago and stopped a lot of this bad PR from ever growing out of hand.
I'm late to watch this.

It's such a nothingburger.

The incentive for console gaming are the exclusives.
Not really. The incentives for buying a specific console are the exclusives. But gaming on console is about far more than that. It's also about ease of use and having a dedicated gaming device. And the convenience of simply turning your console and big screen television on and just gaming without needing to stop what you are doing on your PC. For the average person a console is a godsend compared to gaming on a PC. Or at least was until these last two generations (outside of Nintendo).

Fortnite has 80% of its playerbase on consoles. People always will prefer to play a game on consoles in much greater numbers when they have a choice. Because they want the ease of sitting down on the couch with a controller and simplicity of just using a dedicated device. This is why Microsoft's destruction of the Xbox brand was so pathetic. There is still massive demand for modern consoles that function just like the ones from previous generations (no forced online, no forced digital only, forced into Gamepass, etc.).

While this was true at one point, its simply no longer the case. Consoles are just limited PCs now. And PC gaming isn't even that hard to get into at this point, compared to what it was in the 90s or even the 2000s and early 2010s. You can just buy a pre-built PC specifically made for "living room" use. PC gaming is no harder to get into than console gaming now. Exclusives really are the only selling point now, and most people only stick with consoles out of inertia or misplaced brand loyalty. Nintendo is the only console manufacturer worth looking at specifically because of their exclusive library.

most sales on consoles are third party games. after all, they are the largest offered product for the console. first party is a small number all things considered but it is a selling point for a reason.

Fuckers could just make Xbox gold or whatever the online play enabling bullshit is free.

Then sell some damn consoles. Stupid fucking subscriptions can bite my shiny Pokémon ass.

First party is double dipped profit tho, from the game and the sliver they normally would get.

Problem is the first party franchises aren’t as big as they once were, and the biggest aren’t first party anymore.

The plan they outlined makes sense to me, and pretty much what I said before in the thread. Only thing surprising is that smaller games will be on PS5, rather than just the Switch. GAAS games can only grow so much, putting them on rival console once numbers start to flat line does make sense. So wonder if it will be Sea of Thieves and Grounded, or will they go with Halo Infinite MP.

I don't think the smaller games would be coming to other consoles if Series consoles were doing better, however, I doubt they will impact sales of consoles, especially if they come 1 year+ later. Not sure if MS has done a good job convincing people that the bigger title such as Starfield and other upcoming ones won't be multiplatform at some point, and that will hurt sales.

Also sounds like they will get rid of AMD for their next gen consoles, think this will lead to an more expensive console. But if the do mean the biggest leap forward it has to be a Nivida GPU and ARM processor. Also with most first party games. Right now AMD is far behind when it comes to ray tracing, and FSR is kind of crap, even more so when compared to DLSS.

The incentive for console gaming are the exclusives. If I can get them anywhere else, what is the point? Xbox needs to get that through their collective heads. And Sony needs to stop brownnosing Marvel titles.
That is one factor, but right now not even sure if it one of the biggest ones when it comes to PlayStation and Xbox.
1. Cost, consoles are cheaper than a PC with comparable specs.
2. Easy of use. While PC gaming is much more user friendly, it is still not on the level of plug in play of consoles.
3. Where my friends are at. The reason why Sony doesn't want MP games to be cross play with Xbox.
4. Where my old games are, digital game sales are at all time high. People who bought games on PS4 don't want to lose them by switching to pc or another console.

Going with Nvidia instead of AMD just for raytracing will be a deathblow for Xbox.
Jewidia is ludicrously expensive for what it does, and anyone who wants to pay premium dollar for RTX and DLSS would not be buying a console.

It's so stupid they're probably going to do it

I agree. From the PS5 Pro rumour (if they are even true) they are creating their own custom upscaling hardware, do wonder if that would be a cheaper solution to combat AMDs dropping of the ball in those areas.

But with the AMD console sales quote used in the video by Phil Spencer and biggest console leap line, does seem make it seem like they are dropping AMD.

As expected the podcast is all sugarcoating and bullshit.

Here's a translation for all of that PR talk: Goy Pass hasn't grown. Their exclusives have all failed one way or another despite PC being included as part of the "Xbox ecosystem". Right now they're going to start making a transition to becoming 3rd party but they don't want to rush it. They'll continue the charade and keep Goy Pass and "exclusives" for a while but both of those will be going away soon.

The only reason why Indiana Jones and Starflop aren't going multiplatform is because of the leaks. Everything said in that "podcast" was just an attempt to soften the blow of the leaks. But it's all true and Xbox as a brand is going away very soon. Their future as a 3rd party publisher will be worse than Sega because their first-party studios are ass.

Also Matt Booty is wrong. The focus hasn't gone from consoles to games. The focus has gone from consoles to developers.

I think this shows how retarded they are. They care more about buying the licensing rights to games than they care about hiring the people that made said games.
@Product Placement @xXx: State of the Union Knowing the above do you really think Xbox as a platform is going to succeed? How the fuck are they going to succeed? All the studios they bought have gone to shit because the developers cash out after the acquisition or they get fired for ESG/DEI reasons.

You are being :optimistic: if you think Microsoft's future in the gaming industry will be lucrative. All you should expect from them is more Redfalls and Starflops. Microsoft's biggest games right now are COD and Minecraft and it's because they haven't touch either of them. Now that they've replaced the people from Activision with (((Xbox))) employees, expect COD to shit the bed soon.

There is a difference between Xbox as a platform succeeding and what your first post said. Starfield being a mid game at best, is far from a flop sales wise, the fact is Xbox do make games that sell well, maybe not as well as rivals but nothing to laugh at.

I do agree that Xbox as a console I don't see much future in now, unless the next console does something radical on a hardware level to give a experience not found on Nintendo or Playstation.

But "Their future as a 3rd party publisher will be worse than Sega because their first-party studios are ass." I do find very questionable, even if you discount them now owning Activision. They do have a number of ips such as Minecraft and Forza that still sell well, upcoming games such as Doom and Elder Scrolls 6 which I don't see flopping.

Xbox has mismanaged a number of ips such as Halo and Gears, but not beyond saving yet and would say they are still in a better state then many Sega ips both now and just after leaving the Dreamcast. Do agree better quality control is needed. Red Fall shouldn't have came out in the state it did, and something like Battletoads should not have made it past the pitch,

Also disagree that MS last minute changed plans for Starfield and IJ to be multiplatform due to the leaks, that is very optimistic. Reality is they are haven't made that decision yet/waiting to see or have made a decision for it to go to PS5 at a later date but don't want to say anything yet in order to maximize sales of xbox consoles/gamepass/ game units on xbox.

I think it sold way under expectations. They probably broke even but I doubt it was much more. A couple weeks after the game came out, Todd was crowing about 6 million players. Players, not sales. If it was sales and if it was indeed a success, they would have spread that metric far and wide. Instead, the game was 30% off on Steam over the holidays. The question is how much of the initial wave was gamepass players. I'd bet it was at least half and likely more.

Last I heard for 12 million players as of December. But no idea what the break down from gamepass users vs real sales is, and how many users even it brought to gamepass rather than people who already have subs playing it.

It was the best selling game of September, but again without numbers doesn't mean too much.

Starfield was alleged to have a budget of at least $200 million for development alone but that was an old figure and sounds low for a game in development for seven years by 500 employee studio plus contractors and auxiliary studios brought in. Let's assume another at least $200 million for promotional material. Let's also assume half of the players came from gamepass. As you said, without knowing how many bought into gamepass specifically for Starfield, it's hard to guess but they're gonna need between 5-6 million copies sold at $70 to break even. Fallout 4 sold 12 million copies day 1. Getting btfo by Fallout 4 is a bitter pill to swallow.
