Polite disagree on that one. A larger screen is probably in my top three things I look for in mobile tech. The productivity improvement I gain with the extra real estate (especially when using a windowed OS on pinephone or split screen when on Android) is crucial to my workflow on the job.


I will totally concede that smaller phones are more pleasant in the pocket though!

Switched from Samsung Galaxy S10 to Samsung Galaxy A53. A downgrade to a more mid tier phone (usually phones the appeal to those in Third World Countries) and that has to do with the fact I wanted to keep my data plan of 80 dollars for 20GB because they charge more on the high tiered phones and they charge you more for only half. Honestly, I don't really care about having a prestigious phone, I just wanted one that is comfortable to use and I also wanted to able to contact other people in an area that relies on cellular data. Also A53 has good camera too.

I also find it bullshit how phones no longer come with a headphone jack and that they're no longer packaged with a charger. I also fucking hated that fact that once you set that phone up it has a galaxy story that automatically downloads shovelware games I have no intentions on playing. So I had to go to the settings and disable that.

Me too. I held out for years before eventually switching to a phone that didn't have one, six months after that I got wireless earbuds for "on the go" and needing an adapter was definitely part of the reason why. I didn't sell out, I bought in.

I can still keep the SD card slot on the A53 at least. The S22 doesn't even offer that. In fact, there is a lot of things about the S22 that makes it feel more inferior to the A53. The A53 is literally a mid range phone with flagship quality, really. You can do pretty much almost completely anything on this phone that you can with flagship phones at this point. I really don't notice much difference from this compared to the my previous S10. The battery on the A53 is much better than that of of the S22 for the most part. No wonder why the A53 is very popular with consumers, almost everyone who used the product loves it, if it is well designed, it really works well. I mean yes, performance and camera is better on the S22 but the performance on the A53 is more than manageable anyways. It's just funny how at this point the flagship phones eventually become more inferior and redundant compared to their more budget phones. Flagships phones are eventually going to become pointless redundant phones that only retards buy at this point. Why should I pay 2000 dollars, sacrifice my data plan and my SD card slot when I could pay 500 dollars for a phone that is just as good and keep my data plan as well as my SD card slot. Phone companies will do everything to rip off their customers making their flagship products shithouses. The A53 is basically a life saver for me, really. Soon people will start making their open source phones to counteract all of this bullshit company decisions. But as for right now, Budget phones are a great deal at this point.

My phone is a nearly six years old flagship that I got a year and a half ago. You really don't need all that much for calling, Youtube, and playing back music files.

Next phone will be the iPhone 13 mini because the faggots decided having a small phone was akin to having a small dick and thus replaced it with a plus-size dick.

You can clone them via the IMEI number if you have it, should be on the back of the phone. There’s lots of ways to do this, lots of research out there. The SIM you used for that phone, if you have it, may also be useful. Good luck.

I'm vaguely interested in getting a Z Fold 4 just to see if folding screens have actually improved since the heap of trash that was the first gen foldables. Anyone here have firsthand experience? I probably won't replace my Librem 5 with it for daily driver needs but I'm looking for another fun toy to keep around in my work desk.

Currently using a Xiaomi MiA2 Lite. The battery has been getting really bad lately so that phone is likely on the way out (I may keep it around as a dedicated GPS navigator for the car, where it can just be plugged in all the time).

Next phone - don't really know, don't particularly care. Not Apple because they are overpriced to shit and I don't like the limitations of the ecosystem (I also don't own any other Apple devices so it's not appealing to me). Whatever it will be, primary considerations will be battery size/life, huge bonuses will be camera quality. I would like to try one of those fancy AMOLED screens as I've heard they help with battery life as well. Ideally I'd like to be able to use the phone all day and not worry about the battery life at all. Currently my phone has gotten to the point where I can't use it at all away from a charger in sunny weather because the battery simply dies too fast when the backlight is on. Even at minimal backlight it can go from 50 to 15% in the span of 30 minutes or so without doing anything CPU intensive. I can't have that.

My current phone is this old brick. I'll continue using these phones until they shut down the 2G network because I despise smartphones. Luckily a lot of service providers in Europe use 2G as a fallback service.

Iphone SE 2. I like the small size and it still does everything I want and I don't need a good top notch camera.

No 5g but 5g isn't here anyways, I have to go into the city to get that.

No personal experience but I believed they could have been getting better. Saw this
From a guy who's made a career out of mostly cell repair and I'm second guessing that. If this tech has had probably over two decades of development at this point between multiple multi billion dollar tech goliaths and the issue of the screen getting fucked doing the one thing it's made to do isn't yet solved it won't be for decades. If you have a lot of extra cash go for it but be wary that it still likely has a high risk of failure within a year and screen replacements are several hundred dollars.

Though not a phone, I'm surprised to find out Samsung is supporting their cheapest tablet, the a7 lite with update until android 13.
 
Ooooooh back in the day I had a Nokia E7 which I ran into the ground. Loved it thanks to the QWERTY keyboard. Then I moved onto the Sony Z compact range up until the one that came after the Z4 Compact as the quality started to shit the bed. Moved onto Samsung with an S8, ended up with a Note 9, 10, S10, Z-Flip, and now I'm on a Z-Flip 3. The Flip 3 is my second one, after a court battle I managed to get Samsung forced to replace it. The factory installed screen protector started peeling at the crease, then one day it took the screen out with them. Sammy tried to argue that the screen protector was not covered by the warrantee and that I should go fuck myself. The claims court disagreed.

Samsung were great up until the S10 generation, then their design and quality just went downhill. The current foldables are just fundamentally flawed with it not being a question if, but when they break.

Future phone? Don't know. I like small things that fit in my pocket (Standard Note 10 is my size limit), so I like the Flip form factor. Maybe I'll try a Razr when this one dies.

Oh, I've had a lot of phones because I used to run a work, and personal phone. And I like shiny things.
