It just werks.

Next: something that allows me to install GrapheneOS.

I got a flagship iPhone 12 a few months back. I think it was about $700 with the storage option I got. My iPhone 6S had an extremely poor battery life after being used and abused for 6 years.

Honestly, it was super dumb and frustrating that Apple "reduces e-waste" by not including a charger with their new phones. The USB-C to Thunderbolt cable was just not compatible with the old charging brick I had for my 6, so I had to fork out money for a new one. (really big brained move there, Apple) Removing the home button seems to be a solid choice because it removes a moving part that constantly gets used in the iOS environment. When working for a carrier's support team, it did happen sometimes that older iPhones would either get a worn out home button or get gunk in it and it wouldn't work.

The part of why I stick with Apple for my phones is because of how well the cloud integrates with my PC and Mac. It is treated as an extra drive in both Finder and Explorer, which is really convenient. I don't have to open my browser to grab photos from my Google Drive and can edit photos offline if I ever find myself without WiFi. The main reason I stick with Apple's environment is the long-term support is just simply unrivaled. Android phones barely make it 3 years for software updates and support. Even if an iPhone from 2015 can't fully take advantage of the software updates that come with new versions of iOS, Apple at least gives you an option to take that update. If you don't care for updates to your device, I get it, but I do like getting security patches. I'm a security sperg, so that's why it matters to me.

My criticism with Apple is the lack of repair options. I would have continued using my iPhone 6S if I didn't need to pay for battery + repair. At that point, I'm just going to buy a whole new phone. I would rather be able to buy a battery and swap it in to replace the old one. Hell, I miss the days of carrying multiple batteries in my pocket and just swapping out if the first one died. I'm hoping Fairphone takes off in the US or at least gets more cutting edge options. If I could make it my next phone, I would certainly do so. I love the concept of a phone that I can just upgrade modules on if I'm unhappy with something. It also seems to have long-term Android support up to 5 years, which is pretty substantial and counters one of my Android criticisms. It also supports custom firmware outside of the Android sphere, which means Linux on this phone is possible. I would love to have custom apps again because I'm tired of only having official apps and being stuck with assloads of ads for Youtube.

In summary, current phone is an iPhone 12, would like Fairphone in the future.

I have a Samsung Note 4 that's on its third battery or so. Debating buying another one for when this one borks. Not using the stylus or anything, just like a big screen and a replaceable battery. All I do is text, call and email, with some web and occasional photos.

I'm tired of the hype train, but I do wish phone manufacturers were competing in areas I care about.

The thing's already getting carried in my purse; go ahead and give me a 1-inch-thick phone that needs to be charged once a week and can be used to smash a car window.

In summary, current phone is an iPhone 12, would like Fairphone in the future.
This too; part of why I'm thinking I should just retrophone until there are better options.

Current: OnePlus
Future: OnePlus
I had a OnePlus 8 5G that died 6 months after getting it due to overheating (I think related to the 5G part). I use an Ifag 12 rn and I like that it just works. I hope to eventually get a linux based phone and just use that, but unfortunately the bands on my carrier aren't well supported with a lot of current linux based phones like the Purism and Pine phones.

Current: OnePlus 7 Pro 5G
Good battery life, excellent cameras, plenty of storage, hasn't let me down at any point.

Next: Fuck knows, probably another OnePlus, the current one has lasted much longer than the Huawei P20 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G that preceded it. The battery went south on the Huawei in <6 months, and the Note decided one day that the bottom third of the screen needed to be green and non-responsive.

On the topic of non-replaceable batteries; they absolutely are replaceable, just not with the speed and ease that we got used to in days past. I've done quite a few battery transplants for friends who were too poor to buy another handset, and it's really not as intimidating (and nowhere near as dangerous) as manufacturers would have you believe.

Mine (older version) has been kickin for about four years, after buying it secondhand. Only recently has the battery stopped holding a charge all day, but it's been a good phone.. I would definitely look into others but I've been happy with it.

Current: Moto X4
Next: Whatever is in the 300-400 dollar price range when I need to get a new phone.

What's wrong with wireless? Also there exist headphone jack converters that plug into charging ports
The audio quality of bluetooth headphones/earphones is markedly lower than wired units of a similar price point/quality, generally speaking. The USB-C to audio adapters are a bit of a mixed bag, depending on the phone's audio IC and the quality of the adapter.

current is a galazy j3 eclipse from 2017
planning on getting a motorola one 5g ace to replace it because my current phone is having issues doing anything
degradation in sound quality and the need to charge wireless devices; also just the convince too
for me its latency

Currently? Whatever iPhone was the most recent when I bought last, I think it's a 7?

Next? Whatever the newest iPhone is when I have to replace this one.

I have zero reason to switch from iPhones and want nothing to do with Android nonsense.

Just got a Motorola One 5G Ace or whatever order those words are supposed to go in. Had a Galaxy S5 before this, so it's a nice upgrade. From 16GB of internal storage to 128GB, and the few phone games I play load so much faster on this. It's really nice being able to play games and not having to worry about whether it can handle a site okay.
