Current phone: Asus ZenFone 3
Next phone: Probably another Asus

After I had three Moto Gs in a row that shat themselves just outside of warranty, I swore off them for life and switched to Asus. My ZenFone 3 has outlasted all three Moto Gs I've owned. Hopefully I haven't jinxed it...

current phone: iphone 8
next phone: maybe a samsung galaxy flip

i'm pretty sick of apple's planned obsolescence model, so i want to try switching over and samsung seems like a decent brand. i'm not a techie whatsoever though, so i could be wrong about my opinion on samsung's quality.

I still use a generic landline "touchtone" phone from circa 2000.

The most advanced features are speakerphone and "memory dial" (the latter of which I haven't used).

I normally keep the ringer off because scam calls.

What's wrong with wireless?
Marked reduction in audio quality, audio lag, lack of responsiveness, the need for another wireless devices that has batteries to recharge (that are not user replaceable), and if you live or work in an urban area wireless interference from other users also using Bluetooth is a fucking nightmare.

Wired headphones just work, every time, dont need batteries, and dont suffer from wireless interference. I use bluetooth in my car, sure, but my walking headphones are wired (and I'm not going to replace what already works), and my home audio and truck systems are not wireless.

The better question is, what is wrong with having options? The samsung S5 had a headphone jack and still had both a removable battery and was water proof. The removal of the jack is driven by greed, nothing more.
Also there exist headphone jack converters that plug into charging ports
Which means placing more wear and tear on your USB port, along with strain on the port when the cable moves. USB isnt nearly as durable as the 3.5mm jack was. And at least in personal experience, those USB dongles are completely hit and miss on whether they work properly, and have a tendency to fail after a few months of usage. ESPECIALLY the apple ones. And of course you lose the ability to charge the device and use headphones at the same time.

I've always thought the idea of "battery-ing" stuff that doesn't need to be "batteried" is stupid.

Like the Wii remote or headphones.

(although an annoyance with wired headphones is accidentally pulling the wire)

My phone is the Lenovo K6, released in 2016, cost €110 on sale in late 2016 and it does everything I want perfectly fine. Browser, music, youtube, camera, apps etc.

It was a steal, I was looking to buy an Xperia for €260 or a Samsung-whatever for three hundo, then I started to look at specs and other details like the display. The Lenovo kicked the shit out of other budget phones and was much, much cheaper.

Currently I'm rocking a Samsung Galaxy M21, got it in 2020 when my trusty rusty LG G3 beater started to act up. That one I had since December 2015. And now I'm considering getting a Sony Xperia 10 as the next phone, since I really, really like the way it's designed. It hits all the right notes for me. It can be used comfortably with one hand, it has no notch, a proper notification LED, a headphone jack with a beefed up DAC, a microSD slot and a tool-less SIM/mSD tray, an OLED HDR screen, good battery optimization, and it's also waterproof. I really hope that Sony will keep on doing their own thing rather than copying the entire market or going the same way LG did, since they really are the last brand that designs their phone with some common sense.

The Wii remote isn't a great example. The motion controls make a wired version of it a disaster waiting to happen regardless of length. Hate that the classic controller had to be wireless.

So, since Samsung sucks asshole through a straw I've decided to "upgrade" to a Pixel 4. It's only slightly more expensive than a galaxy s9+ so I'm banking on being able to sell my s9+ so this upgrade will only cost me around $50-60. I paid $220 for the pixel 4 (with tax) and based on the market it's looking like I can sell it for around $150. Looking forward to finally being able to use a rooted phone again.

In terms of specs, the Pixel 4 has a slight edge over the Galaxy s9+ so this won't be a major upgrade but at least I'll have root again.

How easy are they to root? I have a Samsung Galaxy A50 and it's already randomly crashing and draining battery and I've only had it a year.

I've been using an Iphone 8 since whenever it came out + a few months, bought it with 24 installments because our economy is fucking shit (cost me 3600 liras, around 1000$ back then)

I dont know what phone im gonna buy I literally broke my keyboard and also have to pay for my visa fees when I apply, (Poland & AU) not to mention doctors appointment to get contact lenses approved (Govt hospitals are booked till the next 6 months since theres literally a single fucking hospital that does contact lens checkups) and I dont want to liquidate my crypto; eitherway if I get the money I'd probably buy an Iphone X since its cheaper than the newer models and wont be outdated for a while, I havent used android based phones since 2013 and I think im too much of a pussy to change

God I love being poor as fuck when it comes to anything that requires foreign exchange, good thing I had 90% of my savings in either USD, EUR or cryptocurrency lol

As I'm sick to shit of people expecting me to respond to their fucking zucc messages within 10 minutes of sending it. You have my fucking number, call me if you need a response that fast.

Otherwise I'm sick of Google, Samsung, apple and the likes harvesting shit off my phone to sell me ads. I don't need all the fancy stuff for an every day phone.

I got the Pixel 4a 5G mainly for the slightly bigger battery (5G is honestly a joke). I'm pretty happy with it. If it craps out or when I can get a new trade-in, I will probably stick with Pixel phones. 🤷‍♀️
