Culture Youtube gonna be tougher with content control, working with organizations such as ADL - Pepe is gonna be banned.

https://youtube.googleblog.com/2017/08/an-update-on-our-commitment-to-fight.html

A little over a month ago, we told you about the four new steps we’re taking to combat terrorist content on YouTube: better detection and faster removal driven by machine learning, more experts to alert us to content that needs review, tougher standards for videos that are controversial but do not violate our policies, and more work in the counter-terrorism space.

We wanted to give you an update on these commitments:

Better detection and faster removal driven by machine learning: We’ve always used a mix of technology and human review to address the ever-changing challenges around controversial content on YouTube. We recently began developing and implementing cutting-edge machine learning technology designed to help us identify and remove violent extremism and terrorism-related content in a scalable way. We have started rolling out these tools and we are already seeing some positive progress:
  • Speed and efficiency: Our machine learning systems are faster and more effective than ever before. Over 75 percent of the videos we've removed for violent extremism over the past month were taken down before receiving a single human flag.
  • Accuracy: The accuracy of our systems has improved dramatically due to our machine learning technology. While these tools aren’t perfect, and aren’t right for every setting, in many cases our systems have proven more accurate than humans at flagging videos that need to be removed.
  • Scale: With over 400 hours of content uploaded to YouTube every minute, finding and taking action on violent extremist content poses a significant challenge. But over the past month, our initial use of machine learning has more than doubled both the number of videos we've removed for violent extremism, as well as the rate at which we’ve taken this kind of content down.
We are encouraged by these improvements, and will continue to develop our technology in order to make even more progress. We are also hiring more people to help review and enforce our policies, and will continue to invest in technical resources to keep pace with these issues and address them responsibly.

More experts: Of course, our systems are only as good as the the data they’re based on. Over the past weeks, we have begun working with more than 15 additional expert NGOs and institutions through our Trusted Flagger program, including the Anti-Defamation League, the No Hate Speech Movement, and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. These organizations bring expert knowledge of complex issues like hate speech, radicalization, and terrorism that will help us better identify content that is being used to radicalize and recruit extremists. We will also regularly consult these experts as we update our policies to reflect new trends. And we’ll continue to add more organizations to our network of advisors over time.

Tougher standards: We’ll soon be applying tougher treatment to videos that aren’t illegal but have been flagged by users as potential violations of our policies on hate speech and violent extremism. If we find that these videos don’t violate our policies but contain controversial religious or supremacist content, they will be placed in a limited state. The videos will remain on YouTube behind an interstitial, won’t be recommended, won’t be monetized, and won’t have key features including comments, suggested videos, and likes. We’ll begin to roll this new treatment out to videos on desktop versions of YouTube in the coming weeks, and will bring it to mobile experiences soon thereafter. These new approaches entail significant new internal tools and processes, and will take time to fully implement.

Early intervention and expanding counter-extremism work: We’ve started rolling out features from Jigsaw’s Redirect Method to YouTube. When people search for sensitive keywords on YouTube, they will be redirected towards a playlist of curated YouTube videos that directly confront and debunk violent extremist messages. We also continue to amplify YouTube voices speaking out against hate and radicalization through our YouTube Creators for Change program. Just last week, the U.K. chapter of Creators for Change, Internet Citizens, hosted a two-day workshop for 13-18 year-olds to help them find a positive sense of belonging online and learn skills on how to participate safely and responsibly on the internet. We also pledged to expand the program’s reach to 20,000 more teens across the U.K.

And over the weekend, we hosted our latest Creators for Change workshop in Bandung, Indonesia, where creators teamed up with Indonesia’s Maarif Institute to teach young people about the importance of diversity, pluralism, and tolerance.

Altogether, we have taken significant steps over the last month in our fight against online terrorism. But this is not the end. We know there is always more work to be done. With the help of new machine learning technology, deep partnerships, ongoing collaborations with other companies through the Global Internet Forum, and our vigilant community we are confident we can continue to make progress against this ever-changing threat. We look forward to sharing more with you in the months ahead.

The YouTube Team

This gonna be gud.

Why? This comes after Google is kicking people off their entire platform. Jordan Peterson, a tenured Professor in Toronto who says things that Google doesn't like, lost access to his account, mail and everything. He's pretty contreversial in some circles, so maybe that's it...oh wait, they just banned another professor from their entire platform:

Why was this man banned? What could it possibly be....

I think we found our winner. So no, I'm not going to calm down when a company with cash that beats over hundreds of countries GDP-wise starts dictating morality and engages in petty vendettas because it suddenly lost its fucking mind.

:story:

I hate to say it but I think Western society is going to put the laws in place that prevents against discrimination against people based on political beliefs or we'll have to threaten Google with anti-trust laws or monopoly laws to try and prevent them from keeping pulling this. Google has more real world power than most countries at this point.

Nothing is too big to fail, but the government will always be there to jam its throat on corporate cock. We already live in a socialist country, except its not for the people, just for corporations. Small business fails, putting family in poverty? Too fucking bad. Banks fail after being degenerate gamblers and exploiting the poor, driving them deeper into poverty? OH MY GOD, THIS IS A TRAGEDY, HERE HAVE A COUPLE OF TRILLION.

This isn't capitalism. Yeah, making them fail would hurt a lot. But now there are no consequences to what they do. They know if they fuck up again, they'll just keep getting bailed out, which just fucks over more people in the long run.

I agree. The problem is that there is no will for it. The defense of free speech is at an all time low, and the once proponents of it, the left, have given in to authoritarians. They are even saying CEOs are the saviors of America. Think about that for a second. Billionaires. Saving America. What a fucking joke.

The left has lost all will and independent thought and has become intellectually lazy. They appeal to the people in charge for change, they have no will to do it themselves. They happily give up the free speech of their ideological enemies, not realizing any change they initiate in this manner can and will be used against them in the future. Governments LOVE this shit. 'Oh, you don't like our policy? Hate speech, banned'. 'Protesting against a big corporation? Oh, the person in charge is a minority, you are a racist, banned'. The power for exploiting this by large corporations and governments is huge. And these fucking dullards are happy to hand it over because a democratically elected president made them lose their minds like children.

The irony is, now the right is defending freedom of speech because it is the right and the centrists and the classical liberal's whose speech is being threatened. And guess what? All of these are ideological enemies to the left. And the left does not care about suppressing their speech because they are 'bad guys'. This has and will breed extremist elements as people feel threatened that they can't talk freely without losing their job and reputations. Make no mistake, bad shit is going to happen if the left keeps its authoritarian bent and is shielded by powerful media groups and rich CEOs.

Agitating for or against people's political beliefs is an exercise of your own political beliefs. That's not up for regulation. Boycotts (and generally having the power to choose who you give your money to) are an important part of that. Voting with your dollars.

You should be permitted to discriminate against people with differing political beliefs, except in highly specific situations. That's your right.

I also don't see how any major Google properties are violating anti-trust laws. Google has a substantial market share in a few areas, but nothing approaching a monopoly. Like, maybe if google was fucking with apps competing with google alternatives on the google play store, that might qualify. Or if they were booting customers off of google fiber.

But youtube? I'm not seeing it.

He has valid points. It's just that he's coming across as way too upset. That's usually a sign it's time to relax a bit and calm your tits.
@Secret Asshole usually gets pretty wordy but I think he's usually very well-written so I enjoy his posts, knowing his writing as I do I'll choose to believe he's not necessarily as enraged as it may come off (I do agree with his points in this post). Just my opinion.

Hello friends! Today, I bring you great news from the land of YouTube. And by that I mean full fucking exceptionalism. I mean, so fucking brain damaged you are wiping up shit and drool and piss from this thing. The only words it can say now are "HURRRRR" and *autistic screeching*.

View attachment 267058

Yes, YouTube has demonitized Destiny 2, a game rated 'Teen' (which is for, you guessed it, 13-17 year olds) is apparently 'too violent' for YouTube. It seems that the rumors about YouTube hiring Anita McDumbcunt might have actually been true. Her stance on videogame violence is pretty much she hates all of it. Doing this is a move of pure ideology, not protection. They could have age-restricted it if they wanted, but they didn't. They made a statement by demonizing it.

Because who in their right fucking mind would demonetize one of the largest, most anticipated games of the year that is probably going to have ads playing on TV and the movies? That's right! Destiny 2! Which can be played on PG-13 movies and daytime and prime time television.

I take it back. There's no business plan here. There is no capturing television audiences. There is no desire to further groom content creators for a competing platform. YouTube has NO fucking idea what it is doing. But I know exactly what happened. The CEO is a stupid ideological cunt who saw YouTube make Donald Trump win, so instead of making it a platform for 'gamers' and 'nazis'. She is culling EVERYTHING that doesn't fall within her ideological window. It doesn't matter if it bleeds money, YouTube wants to rid it of anything that got Donald Trump elected. Or anything that it thinks it did. And limit it. I am absolutely sure of this. It isn't to limit 'harassment'. It is clearly pushing ideology now, 100%, full stop. It is what every major social network from Facebook to Twitter is doing. Censoring and forcing people off. Google is Progtard central.

There is no way you fuck with a major gaming studio whose game sold millions upon millions of copies and made the Halo franchise. You don't fuck with that because they and other gaming companies belong to your advertiser pool. Other gaming companies don't ignore this shit and will switch their marketing push out of the YouTube space and into Twitch. Which according to all estimates, is making money for Amazon hand over fist.

This is also another move to hit creators alternate revenue streams. Who is going to pay a YouTuber if their videos get demonitized? Of course, smart YouTubers have already ditched the YouTube adverts and found their own sponsorship and products to push. Also merchandise. Which means, until they are banned, they are effectively using YouTube's upload and video service for free. There might be attempts to marginalize them.

Google has become ideologically insane. It has lost its fucking mind. And the scary part is how much data it has and the haphazard way they enforce it. The company needs to be fucking gutted. Investors are happy now, but we all know how SJW stuff does in the long run. The only reason YouTube isn't dead yet is because it wasn't infested at first. But now its obviously driven by the ideology of a very, very vocal minority. I think, as a whole, the platform's days are numbered unless the ship turns itself around by firing this dumb bitch and everyone who works on the moderation/monetization team. Yes, it is the dominant right now. But there is nowhere near enough SJW content to support it. The views SJWs get that are monetized are paltry compared to other creators who get many times as much. Look at Francesca Ramsey. Her numbers are fucking pathetic. Anita Sarkessian's numbers, pathetic. People who have sponsorship's aren't even going to bother monetizing videos anymore.

The problem is how long will it take and how much money will it bleed? They are obviously accelerating the process. Straight up demonetizing Bungie, in another world, would be a fire-able offense. But in Google, its the norm. And that's the danger of companies like this. When they begin to enforce their morality and worldview, where do you go?
I'd say alternate platforms, but they'd probably get screwed even harder by the loss of viewership. Is there anything in Silicon Valley that isn't an anti-trust lawyers dream/nightmare?

I'm not, I'm being hyperbolic of course. But it is something to be very concerned about. A stats prof got booted off because he did some analysis for the Trump campaign. Off the biggest internet platform on Earth, not only for work use, but personal use as well. Bungie, a company worth probably a billion plus, was de-monetized because some dangerhair doesn't like violent videogames. Yeah, it doesn't hurt Bungie. But forget reviewing any that is 'T' and above. Good luck making a living doing lets plays.

Did Wolfenstein get de-monetized? No. Doom? No. Their rules are arbitrary. And lets face it, YouTube is the only game in town in which people based careers and livelihoods off of, which provided YouTube with money. And suddenly they want to purge their platform of pretty much everything with a pointy end on it to make it so its basically popular only with five year olds and tumblerites, who have the same mental age.

Stormfront (Yes, I know) which existed for years and years, was well-known and allowed to continue operating. One bad joke and one CEO having a bad day effectively erased them from the internet. Even though it had been around for years. Suddenly one really shitty joke later, boom, gone.

Whats next? ISPs? Slowing down or booting users off because of something they're doing that they don't like? I assure you, it wouldn't just stop with the neo-nazis. Thank fuck Google Fiber never took off, since I guarantee you'd see people getting their net pulled. Pandora's box is opened. It never just stops with White Supremacists or people with bad opinions. Look at Confederate statues. It went from Confederates, to Columbus (who was an asshole, yes), to the founding fathers, to across the ocean where people are talking about removing Nelson's statue from Trafalgar. You know, the one guy who saved the British from French and Spanish Imperialism.

I'd say alternate platforms, but they'd probably get screwed even harder by the loss of viewership. Is there anything in Silicon Valley that isn't an anti-trust lawyers dream/nightmare?

The problem is any alternative platform must remain a private corporation, otherwise they'll just get bought up and shut down. Which reduces capital. Another problem is that working on alternative platforms puts a mark on you. 'Oh, you worked on this platform? Well, we're putting you on a list'. And that list gets passed around. And if you are hired elsewhere, you get hounded by a mob of feminists and progressives to get you fired. And corporations give in because they don't want the trouble.

Like I mentioned before, Gab was removed from the Google store for 'hate speech'. Which means Gab is responsible for what people say on its platform, a charge which websites have denied for the dawn of time. This is a problem because not only is Gab a competitor to Google services (no matter how small), Google no longer holds itself to the same standards as everyone else. Its adopted the hypocrisy of the modern progressive movement. Just look at fucking Tor, a haven for drug cartels, child pornographers and criminals of all stripes, laughably condemning Stormfront using its service. There is no self awareness, reflection or consistent application of the rules.

Another issue is that these services are rapidly becoming more of a necessity than a luxury. Imagine Google shutting its services down from an entire University because it has the audacity to be conservative or eliminate its Gender Studies program. You might laugh, but like I said with the Confederate Statues, suppression never just stops with unpopular speech everyone agrees with. It keeps going until dissent is squelched.

haha just be chill with the megacorps using their might to censor wrongthink

I went hyperbolic because I do believe it is that important to be concerned about. And to entertain of course, but this is serious shit. We've got billion dollar corporations who can dictate morality, control your employment and simply unperson you if they don't like you enough.

Think about Twitter, keeping harassment up. They left an ANTIFA hit-list online. These aren't hardcore neo-nazis, they were college republicans. These are people with different political views who could have been hurt or even killed because of that list. They routinely ignore harassment from progressive users. YouTube leaves what basically amounts to Child Porn on certain channels up while demonitizing videogames and only takes it down when someone gets the FBI involved.

What we are facing now is unprecedented. Billion dollar corporations can now control morality and thought. Not even with difficulty, with ease. ISPs shut you out, no more internet. They talk to your phone company, who removes your access. Maybe you suddenly don't have access to Amazon anymore. Or the Google Accounts you rely upon for your company and work are shut down, and all your back-ups on Google Drive wiped. Google manipulates your search results so it shows you results and videos only it wants you to see.

This isn't some cyberpunk dystopia, its the future. And since TOS's are vague and businesses can do anything they want, there is little to no recourse. And make no mistake, if capitalism takes its natural course and Google is in trouble, I guarantee you it will be bailed out because it is 'too big to fail'. Anti-Trust legislation is a fucking joke.

I just think it's silly to get riled up over Youtube as if it's like some publicly funded organization that is intrinsic to your daily life. Youtube is not the provider of your electricity. Youtube is not the school you send your kids to. It's a fucking entertainment website you have no reason to be dependent on for any reason other than to watch cat videos. Just because -YOU- are personally using it as a news source doesn't suddenly make it that way. If they want to delete a video showing something you wanted to see - that's their decision as a private business.
If McDonald's wants to put fucking celery on all their burgers it's not time to declare it the end of choice in a democratic society from alt-left hippie treehuggers because your fatass eats there every night and you hate health.

Not everyone goes on YouTube to watch cute cat videos. YouTube was created because it was supposed to give people the ability to upload whatever kind of videos they want be it gaming, animations, movies, politics, news, etc. But now YouTube, especially with not monetizing Destiny 2 (one of the most highly anticipated game this year), is betraying what made the site stand out. They are demonetizing anything that is not for five year olds (who should not be on the Internet) and Tumblrinas who throw a bitch fit if you unintentionally misgender them.

With social media becoming a more prominent part of our lives and communication, we have good reasons to be concerned.

The thing to remember about Youtube constantly fucking up like this, it's actually doing more damage to its own bottom line than shitting its pants and doing nothing would. The immediate blastback isn't as dramatic as it could be, but over time we're going to see more and more cases of this sort of shit happening. Paired with the fact that there's groups actively trying to get more like Damore to come forward under condition of anonymity, and you're looking at a situation where Google facing some kind of blastback for this shit is not a matter of if, but indeed, when.

Kick back, relax, and watch the slow-motion train-wreck. Be concerned, of course, but know that in the end, there's no way that this won't generate some fucking amazing hilarity for us to laugh at and ultimately sort of arrive at its own autistic equilibrium in due time.
