Mario Bros. Set to Jump to Big Screen in Movie Deal with Universal’s Illumination - Paging Movie Bob, Paging Movie Bob...

The cast for me just confirmed the type of movie it is going to be, and mean with illumination was likely going to be just a bad as their other movies but thought Nintendo could have reined things in a bit to make an alright movie,

But clear with Nintendo giving this cast the go-ahead, they really don't care that much about the quality, as long as it doesn't do anything out there like the live-action movie or anything that could harm the brand.

But when their average gross is $695.4 million per film, guess that makes a case for following what Illumination says.

Do hope it flops, just because the animation industry needs a good kick up the ass and something that should have been a sure-fire hit like a Mario animated movie flopping due to poor quality management decisions could be a step in that happening.

But let's say they do replace most of the cast with people who fit the roles. They are still unlikely to do major rewrites and redo the comedy or remove random pop songs that don't fit at all.

TLDR, A replacement voice cast won't make the movie good, likely needs a total rework from the script level.

Also, I find it funny people are mad at Chris Pratt being cast because they think he wants to kill all gays or something.

Everything I've seen from the guy, he seems very nice, he goes to children's hospitals in his off time and doesn't even make it a photo op like what happened with Ghostbusters 2016.

You know, there is no shortage of hilarious fat dudes out there. You don't have to reuse two unfunny saps like Black and Rogen all the time.
I don't mind Jack Black, he is just miscast here. I could weirdly see him play someone else like King Boo or a deeper cut character like Fawful.

Seth Rogen, dude can only play lol weed guy, he has no range at all or has not shown any range yet and when you are 40, you are too old to be playing the lol weed guy anymore.

TFW Sonic will have the higher quality movie compared to mario
The casting sucks but seeing the retards seethe about it on twitter is a small consolation. In all honesty if you ever thought this movie was going to be anything except shit then I wanna live on your planet.
I'm just upset it isn't more shit, come on they couldn't have given Adam Sandler a place to fit in this dumpster fire?

Yeah even as someone who hates most Hollywood people I always had a soft side for pratt since he wasn't always skinny (used to be fat on parcs and rec) he just doesn't feel like he was churned out of a Hollywood factory where they make "Beautiful People".

Kevin Michael Richardson is black, too, but he also has a really deep voice. Can you even imagine any of this coming from this character?

He's got some pretty good range. While I'm not a biggest fan of The Batman, I thought Richardson did an okay job as the Joker.
The movie will literally be this /tv/ meme.

And the first trailer will probably look something like this.
How long have people been saying this stuff about Chris Pratt for?
I watched this shit live lmao. As soon as they unveiled the cast, I just started fucking cackling. Like, Jesus Christ, what the fuck? Why Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong? Why Jack Black as Bowser? I love Jack Black and all, but as a giant turtle-dragon? Should have gone for somebody with a deep, imposing voice. That's like casting Kevin Hart as the voice of Ganondorf
It honestly looks more like something making fun of how modern animated movies cast big-name celebrities to attract moviegoers.

Even the Nostalgia Critic made fun of this years ago.

I was already apprehensive to the movie because it was Illumination making it, but the casting just sealed the deal.

Just be glad Patton Oswalt isn't the one voicing Bowser.

Good point. I don't think anyone has a problem with Jack Black as an actor as he has turned out some great performances in the past.

It's kind of like when Drew Carey played Geppetto in that one made for TV movie. I don't hate Carey, but his self-deprecating form of comedy doesn't really mesh well with the kind father figure Geppetto is to Pinocchio.

Maybe Kevin James as Wario? John Mulaney as Waluigi? Jojo Siwa as Daisy? Andy Samberg as Bowser Jr? Kevin Hart as King Boo? Margot Robbie as Birdo?

I'm just saying, this movie can always be the next Emoji Movie in terms of cringe if the people as Illumination want it to be.

Pretty sure some of those are jokes, but some might not be. Glad to know Eytalians are no longer white, they ought to spread the good news to some Staten Island construction workers.

I just want to know what the auditions were like, and how they came to decide on these actors among others. We don't know who the casting director is, and the thought-process behind casting tends to start with the screenwriter. They typically write characters based on a certain actor (or two) in mind, and they cross their fingers and hope the person agrees to play the character. If they don't, they go looking for someone else who is similar, but they may have to make some tweaks to the character in the process.

Shrek is a good example of this happening. Chris Farley was the go-to choice for Shrek, and the character was originally written for Chris. When he died before he could finish recording, they went with Mike Myers since he's kinda similar to Chris, but Shrek had to be rewritten to fit Mike (I think that was Mike's idea out of respect for Chris). The Genie is an example of it going right in that Robin Williams wasn't a guarantee, but he loved what the animators had put together in their reel for him and agreed--but then the marketing manipulation upset Robin. Dan Castellaneta was a fine replacement for Genie in the TV series and the character didn't need to be changed for his comfort, but he didn't have quite the same manic energy as Robin.

So however the auditions went, or if these were the de-facto faces for the characters, it's indeed a very baffling choice, but I would hope that they can disguise their voices into the characters. Yeah, not every actor can do voice-acting, but if they're able to lose themselves into a character on-screen, you can trust they can lose themselves in an animated character, as long as the ADR director is competent. I regrettably have to give Illumination this that they at least have a sense of good voice-directing in their projects. The movies still suck ass in presentation, but off the top of my head I can't think of a truly bad voice. (Yeah, you can say that having generic/average voice-actors is still just as bad, but they blend in to everything else in this bland world of entertainment at this point that it's to be expected.)

Chris Pratt has experience in voice-acting, I just don't know if he's able to put on a convincing Italian accent because far as I know, he's never proven that on audio. Jack Black has more experience than him in that regard, but the last villain I can think of he voiced (he's been a villain on-camera before) was Zeke from Ice Age, and that was long before he got household famous. I don't even know if he can deepen his voice enough to pull off a convincing Bowser, but he at least has the ham down-pat.

I have no fucking idea who Anya Taylor Joy even is, never heard of her before nor seen anything she's been in, but honestly, Peach can sound her typical sugary sweet (Peeee-chee~), or have the mature voice of Leslie Swan in Super Mario 64. Any woman who's not a chain-smoker I think can voice her. Everyone else minus Kevin is a make-or-break it at this point, with Seth Rogen potentially being the worst of the bunch just due to him being everywhere at this point. (I've never watched the Smurfs movie so if Fred Armisen was awful in there as Brainy Smurf, then hold on to your butts.)

I want to be pleasantly surprised, but I'm bracing for the worst for when the first trailer will drop.
