To be fair to him, after taxes, that probably isnt going that far if hes renting/buying in NYC even if its Staten Island. That said, like Vinny, I dont think he/his family was ever bad off, I believe their story is that both of them went to a private Catholic school and again I imagine both of them would probably stand to inherit whatever property they have in NYC. I believe Vinny hinted early on that he actually had people who worked in Wall Street at a level enough to get him a job working with them no strings attached, and he kind of left it to stream.

I also think Mike was living with his girlfriend or whatever so combined theyre probably living a comfortable life but not enough so that they can throw money around.

Aug 2019 to Oct 2021 is 26 months or just over 2 years, I'm not sure why people keep acting like this is their monthly or yearly takeaway. I would also check to see if this is pre-withholding or not because some people opted to have them do tax withholding for them and some opted out of that.

I don't think governments are going to restrict the Internet to that degree, but you have to remember Google's browser engine is use in everything from Chrome to Edge to Brave. A much more likely scenario is some sort of walled garden built into the browser that keeps you away from problematic sites, and all us shit posters are using Lynx or Dillo or some shit.

Maybe I'm optimistic, but I can see hardcore shitposters and other disillusioned types heading back to pre-WWW services such as BBSs, Usenet and IRC. For BBSing, I'd expect some sort of hybrid SSH/Telnet client(s) with terminal emulation and the smarts to launch image and video links with plug-ins (such as FFMPEG). I haven't checked newsreaders recently, but I can see a newsreader with built-in binaries decoding being a possibility as well (if it doesn't already exist).

It'll make such sites harder to use on mobile devices, but tbh that's probably a good thing.

By doing this, Twitch is basically telling the IRS that they paid someone X amount of money, and that they (the IRS) should check for that money when the streamer files their taxes.

Same goes for donations streamers receive, which IIRC is done through StreamLabs and PayPal. PayPal automatically generates a 1099 for anyone who does over a couple of grand in income each year.

Anyone making crazy amounts of money is definitely offloading the work to a CPA so it gets done properly.

As for the languages used... Twitch has made it clear on their engineering blog that they use Go already, so that's nothing new. I haven't had the chance to look through it all just yet, so I don't know whether they use any other language majorly, but I've seen PHP and Ruby mentioned.

The "video" and "CurseBackend" subtrees have C# at least. Some of the ML stuff like "video-content-analysis" is C++.
