Not really and it doesn't apply to police exclusively, technically anyone insulting you can be sued - the punishment then is mostly something along the lines of paying some money I think. It is a crime, but not a harshly punished one, in this case the issue was his probation from previous infractions of the law.

Dude was sentenced to 7 months of jail on 2 years of probation after attacking someone with pepper spray in 2019. He committed more assaults in the past years though and him insulting the cops was just yet one more example of him not following the rules of his probation.

It's not just that he insulted them, he's harassed the local police and cost them thousands for years dealing with his shit, calling in about people just loitering outside his house then sperging out on the cops who are forced to try and deal with his shit, he's been a giant nuisance and attracted thousands of trolls to a tiny village, and assaulted random passers by who didn't even have anything to do with him.

While it will undoubtedly be appealed, Dragonlord has been sentenced to two years in prison with no chance of probation, due to multiple counts of insults and infliction of bodily harm (towards visitors).
To clarify: Insulting people using a widespread public medium is punishable in Germany, Rainer regularly insulted the police and others in his streams

A couple of explanations as to his background and pre-youtube existence that may not have been covered by Dankula can be found in the previous pages, where the Germankiwis have been switching to English in anticipation of this event. Originally a verdict was expected on the 28th (two days were scheduled) but they got through it in a single day. Defense asked for 2 years on probation, state asked for 2.5 years without probation. Judge "compromised" on 2 years without probation.

Added clarification to the post: Insulting people publicly (or disseminating insults through a public medium) is punishable under German law. Rainer regularly insulted the police in his streams when they did not arrive fast enough for his taste (he would call them multiple times daily, basically whenever someone visited him and expected them to show up within minutes) or did not deal with his visitors in a manner he approved of, calling them whoresons and assholes who were not doing their job properly.

Won't happen that fast tho. He'll have a couple of weeks (if not months) to appeal, then there's some time for the sentence to take effect, he'll get a letter and a month after that, he'll go to jail. Even without the appeal, it'll be long past 5th of January before he'll have to go to prison.

For newcomers: He sold his house and will have to move out by 5th of January.
