DOOM

Maybe the next Doom game could be a prequel now that they put the slayer away. In any case I'd like them to experiment with the mechanics some more. They've shown willingness with Eternal.

Maybe a spec system based on the Elemental Wraiths? How about steering into the whole boomer shooter meme and make rocket jumping the primary mobility tool instead of the hook?

I'd appreciate a full-on boomer shooter game, sprites and all. I've really come to love Doom 1 and would love to see a retro-style game (especially after Eternal was so over the top and "epic").
Any thoughts on Brutal Doom? I played it back in 2013 in Doom 2 and thought it was unpolished but novel. Having to reload and how enemies react differently was cool and changed the pace of the game. A lot of people think it is trash?
Like the above post, anyone who says it's trash are just salty for one reason or another (it's like the Doom version of Project M). Even if you don't care for the changes it makes it's incredibly impressive and slick from a development standpoint. I think vanilla is a better crafted experience but I tend to play Brutal Doom more often as a "I got a few hours to blow" kind of thing. It's kind of the same fun you get from playing a Warriors game in my opinion.

Plus, turning demons into puddles with the chaingun is sick.

They should acquire the rights to Turok and make a new game in the style of DOOM 2016.

I can't see Turok being that expensive, and it would give them another old FPS IP to cut their teeth on.

Given id's history, I expect they'll dusting off Quake next. (See: Quake IV after Doom 3 came out).

aren't they making shitty phone games with the turok IP? that's a hole you can't get out of...
There was also that horrible Chuck Wendig comic that turned one of the few Native Americans in pop culture into a black guy.

Turok has been in such a sorry state that being bought by Microsoft would almost certainly be the best thing to happen in years.

That's probably because TNT sucks balls and Plutonia is frustrating if more fun

I don't remember which is the one that has Arch-Viles everywhere. I just get memberberries about Doom every few years, install it, and remember...oh right, this WAD was turgid crap. Memento Mori II was really good, though.

Since nobody has mention it. But have you guys ever tried a total conversion called Ashes Afterglow?

I found the old version while browsing through wad-archive and I'm loving it. Its a post-apocalyptic style with mix of S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Mad Max, and Fallout feel to it. Was impressed on how great the environment and levels feel while wandering through it. Plus it takes alot from Strife's dialog and quest features which are optional if you don't want to bother wandering around aimlessly for finding shit for the NPC's.

Though keep in mind it can be pretty confusing on where you should go if you don't pay attention to what the NPC are telling you. So have a walkthrough ready if you're that type of autist that likes to 100% everything or have zero clue on where to go.
apologies if I sound like a fucking shill but this was found on wad-archive which has some really shitty to the best wads you could ever play. And I did play through some pretty crappy ones so finding this was a nice change of pace.

I love Doom but I think it needs to go back in the freezer for several years.
I'd prefer Id Software just develop a barebones NuDoom with little to no further gameplay changes but full mod support and a level editor. Give the game back to the community then put it into maintenance mode ala TES. Say what you want about the constant meme rereleases of Skyrim, it's a highly moddable game and has stayed remarkably relevant because of it. Besides, I'd rather they release one highly polished game with robust mod support and let the modding community reshape it as they see fit over the course of many years.

The odds of John Carmack unleashing his nanite murdermachines on Bethesda and restaffing Id with updated copies of his former co-workers that have been meticulously engineered to have the best properties of their templates while weeding out their worst traits (Romero's clone will need to be on 24/7 surveillance to keep it productive) aren't large enough that I'd put money on it.
He still might, just to fuck with the simulation and see what happens, though.

It really is. Doom 2016 was extremely easy to pick up and Eternal gummed things up with a bunch of gimmick features.
I think it wouldn't be so contentious if the game was less stingy with ammo, or at least didn't make you rely on the chainsaw so much.

Making each weapon have far less ammo capacity than their 2016 counterparts was a very... interesting choice.
