The Elder Scrolls

Skyblivion

Trailer dropped a while ago for this project. I'm still cautiously optimistic that it'll see the light of day before the heat death of the universe, and them working with the original game as a framework at least means they aren't going to POZ it up like the Beyond Skyrim team. What do you guys think?

The newest Dev Diary came out about a week ago.

I'm optimistic. They've been showing off a fair amount of it the past year or so which makes me think they might actually have decent fucking management and get it out.

They seem to be making some actual progress which makes me feel better about it. I was a little concerned about all the changes they seem to be making, but I do agree with them on paper. Oblivion's world feels the least cohesive out of the new trilogy, and it seems like they're taking steps to correct that, even if I kind of wish they'd do a straight port to just speed up development a little. I'm mainly looking forward to playing through fun Oblivion quests with Skyrim polish, since I could never get into it the same way I could Morrowind and Skyrim.

I'm gonna be honest, I can't say I'm a fan of all of their redesigns. Their Umbra redesign is especially edgy. I'm pretty sure I saw a recolored Witcher 3 armor in there as well, I'm hoping that's a placeholder. I'm also hoping that their descriptions of the artifacts are flavor, because having to kill innocents with Umbra or having Volendrung randomly disappear on you would be incredibly stupid.

Just had a legit argument with some friends over the way i played my first Skyrim run

They were so confused, baffled even, that i wanted to roleplay as a lawful good Warrior barbarian type first time around, that meant sticking to certain lines like:

- Only perks allowed are Melee, Armor, Block and the like

- Stat upgrades went to HP and Stamina, never went to Magic

- Lawful Good decisions, my guy was a dumb brute with a strong sense of justice, he'd make decisions and dialogue options according to that

- Stay away from the Thieves Guild and the Dark Brotherhood, if anything, my guy would choose to destroy the DB

The argument boiled down to "Why are you depriving yourself of content? You're missing out on a lot of stuff the game has to offer, i don't understand" and i don't know why my answer of "Roleplaying" didn't explain it, they like to play D&D, isn't what i'm doing similar to that?

Apparently grinding to the point of getting and finishing the Ebony Warrior sidequest was weird to them as well, remember feeling that would be a nice point to finish my character's story on, but my peeps went "dude i literally just start another file after i reach lvl 40, fuck grinding that"

Post got too big so i cut it down lol, but yeah... Months after i finished my first file i started a new one, playing as a neutral rogue thief now and enjoying myself so far, but yeah... Argument ended with us agreeing to disagree

A lot of people don't understand playing a specific way in a videogame. I have a friend who uses glitches to max out his character from the start and then just runs around and blows through all the quests, he does this like twice a year. I'm considered the weird one for coming up with a character idea and a personality for them and following through when that's allowed, I've no idea why.

Elder Scrolls in general encourages that line of thinking because there aren't a whole lot of dialogue options. There's tons of build diversity but ultimately most of your choices in quests are "complete it this exact way or don't do it." Skyrim actually has a surprising amount of dialogue options that you can pick for flavor and roleplaying, but the gameplay and quest design itself discourages it because you're basically never locked out of a build or quests based on your choices.

>restarts at lvl 40

This faggot is either retarded or playing on super duper easy or what?

I have to ask, is he a zoomer or have a cognitive issue or something?

Yeah, only examples i can think off the top of my head are the Civil War questline and choosing to either join or destroy the Dark Brotherhood, but even then, the Civil War doesn't really affect much of the game, Skyrim looks and feels the same no matter who wins, and destroying the Dark Brotherhood is such a nothingburger, not that much different from taking on a simple bounty.

Would've loved to see those expanded on, and maybe add like 'counter' questlines for each faction, tearing apart the Thieves' Guild and taking down Maven Black-Briar, joining the Silver Hands instead of the Companions...

Lmao he is as zoomer as zoomer can be, says the game becomes too hard as he plays on so he restarts, which i *can't* understand. Only started a new file a couple weeks ago and am at lvl 35, haven't tackled the Dragonborn, Dawnguard or even finished the main quest yet, have no idea what's the dude's cut off point, shit ain't hard at all

This is even more retarded. Everyone dies in like one fucking hit on novice. Retards crying about you playing a meleee character while his dumbass is probably spreading his perks out over everything like a dumbass.

I typically use alchemy in Skyrim, so basically I'm playing super baby easy mode (I refrain from fortify restoration loops because I feel it's not sporting, but it's still comically easy on legendary if you include alchemy). That being said, I'd argue Skyrim gets easier as you level, you have more tools at your disposal, better defenses, etc.

For real, Skyrim dumbed it down so much that they only way to make the game hard is if you intentionally spread your perks out too thin.

How hard is it to spend perks on Primary attack and defense, and when you can no longer spend perks on that you then spend them on secondary skills until leveled up enough to focus on primary attack and defense?

And fuck, it's not even *really* focusing on the whole skill tree but just the first step that increases the strength of the skill.

Even without the fortify restoration loop going up to about skill level 60 with alchemy makes Skyrim ezmode

Limitless health and magicka potions, the ingredients are so easy to get, plus any skill boosting potions you might want to make. Really all you need is the health and magicka potions, you'll never die ever or run out of magicka past the mid-early game

Don't forget Fortify Barter (Dragon's Tongue + Tundra Cotton IIRC)

Deathbell/Crimson Nirnroot + Imp Stool + Mora Tapinella (Damage Health + Lingering Damage Health)
Canis Root + Imp Stool + Mora Tapinella (Lingering Damage Health + Paralyze)

Ok so I'm finally trying out Morrowind using openMW. I played it a couple of times as a kid but was too autistic to really get it.

I'm not really enjoying it. I love a good RPG but this game is just too jank for me and I'm not even talking about combat. Pickpocketing is worthless. Most of the NPCs are stationary so if you can't really steal from them.

I'm also extremely annoyed that I'm already forced out of one of 2 faction questlines (Fighters and Thieves Guild) like bro did you really have to lock me out of content already?

Off topic, but I'm getting annoyed I can't find a game that hooks me recently. I don't feel burnt out but the last few games I've tried I've dropped pretty fast.

I honestly didn't get into it until my second playthrough, once I was more familiar with how it works I started to enjoy it a lot more. Regarding the factions, there are actually more faction questlines than oblivion and skyrim but there's a bit more exclusivity for certain types of characters, as well as that you can't join more than one Great House. And pickpocketing in the game legit doesn't function how it was meant to and is broken, it needs a mod in order to be fixed.

Morrowind didn't hook me either until I was able to dump a bunch of gold into training and I stopped faillng skill checks more often than not. And like the guy above said, unmodded pickpocketting is worthless. Success at it has a hard cap of some absurd percentage of 50 or so.

Skyblivion team doing a bunch of stuff today

Currently there is a livestream showing someone working on the landscape. Earlier they did a 2+hour playthrough and Q&A

Apparently a lot of the devs are livestreaming when they work on it now. I'm not aware of Beyond Skyrim doing this but maybe I'm just not enough of a twitchfag to know.
