I get a laugh outta his veiled cries for a free phone from Clint.
I don't like Clint, as I think he is a weak parent and caused all this shit, but I sometimes feel bad for the fucker. Cobes makes sure it's known he is a legal adult -- except when he needs Daddy Nips to pay for something. I can only imagine how much time and money he has spent tending this tard.
I personally don't get the HATRED people have for Clint. A flawed man and a flawed parent? Yes, but how many parents are 100% perfect. We have to remember he has to deal with an alcoholic/addict son who has mental health/developmental disabilities. The idea that Clint can "bring down the hammer" and Cobe's problems would just vanish is nothing short of magical thinking, most likely done by people who don't have children/experience with addicts/the mentally ill.
I hate to say it but if I was Clint I wouldn't want to see my flesh and blood, as flawed as he is, die in the streets or suffer unduly. People with addictions only climb out of their hellhole lives because they are finally able to admit they have a problem and are willing to dig deep to identify painful reasons why they do what they do. Josh at the moment is incapable of this. Would a jail sentence/homelessness possibly strike a spark in him required to get to this point? Possibly, but that is a risky bet, with the odds being higher for death/destitution.
Clint and his wife are both professional, middle class people. I am sure that the monetary support they give Cobes doesn't break the bank at all despite being a headache.
I personally liked the fact that Clint made an effort to help celebrate Josh's birthday, despite the shitshow that turned out to be. Unconditional love is difficult, but Josh isn't a monster, just a regarded boglim, and he deserves to have at least a few people in his life who are willing to stick it out for him.
I know I sound sentimental but I hope Josh is able to hit a "rock bottom" that allows him to self-actualise and deal with his addictions, which at this point are holding him back from living a normal life more than any mental disability he may have.
I'll also add that we don't have a full picture of Clint's attempts to reach through to Cobra besides a few Reddit posts/overheard phone conversations. It must be heart breaking to watch your son drink himself to death, I hope someday he is able to make an effective plea to Josh.
