Mega Rad Gun Thread

These are made on HK tooling that the kebabs bought awhile back. Since century isn’t actually doing any machining I am a lot more likely to actually purchase one.
I can't speak to the state of the machines now, but I know that the Zenith ones were made on HK machinery by HK trained personnel and that the barrels were also HK.

All of the guns I own are what you'd call "Black guns" Both literally and figuratively. What most Non-gun people would consider "tactical" or "military style" I'm interested in practicality first and foremost above aesthetics. And most "black guns" tend to be the most useful and practical to own in today's world.

That being said, I do genuinely prefer the more "Fudd" style guns. Muzzleloaders, engraved Over and Under shotguns, Coach guns, old WW1 bolt guns. Those were what I first considered before getting into guns. I'm not going to be considering buying another gun for a very very long time. But if I did, it would be something like an old WW1 bolt action rifle, or a fine walnut wood and engraved Shotgun.

This is the only gun you own

How is the M10X? I dont know anyone who personally who bought one.

It's a softer shooting, more accurate AK that lets you swap to the correct left-side charging for the most part. I think I talked about it earlier in this thread, but it's fun to shoot, if a bit chonky. Also, the trigger is weirdly unpredictable.

FYI if anyone's interrested: the Taccom 9mm 10/16s are again available to order. I'm just waiting to hear back if they'll cut a deal if I pick up a BCG at the same time.

Side note: are 9mm PCCs prone to FTFs (I'll be doing mine with a Stern or Sylvan magwell adapter)? I ask because I'm trying to figure out if the Taccom BCG is worth it, as it natively mates with their top-ramped barrel. Otherwise I A: discard the Taccom top ramp altogether, or B: get a cheaper BCG and send it to Taccom to be cut for the top ramp.
Little update: Just wanted to throw props to the guy at Taccom. Their Super Feed barrels come with a (removeable) top ramp to help prevent FTFs:

If you buy one of these barrels, they'll notch your BCG for free (if you dont buy one of their $200 pre-notched BCGs). I mailed him my BCG with a copy of my barrel invoice on the 2nd, and just got it back today. Didnt even ask me to pay return shipping.

Gonna hopefully test the new upper (with a 10/16 barrel and Gibbz side-charger) this weekend.

The only bolt guns with irons are safari rifles and even then it's going out of style. You could pay a smith to add irons to a rifle or you could use that money on a better scope. I know what I'd do.
The Winchester Model 70 can be had in .30-06 with irons.

It is an excellent rifle that'll last you a lifetime

I saw this, now it's y'all's turn.

See what all the talk about Romanian dongs started?

Normally I would, especially for more expensive, delicate, or electric parts; but every now & then I find something that doesn't seem to exist outside of Amazon (or Ali Express). Though lately I've been finding really real no-no gun parts listed as airsoft to skirt Amazon's rules, which has always been a thing, but in the past couple years it's become ubiquitous (almost like solvent traps).

Some of them are so blatant, I almost wonder if they're honeypots meant to ensnare people in specific states (i.e. California & Massachusetts) as a favor from Bezos, and are run by local PDs/agencies.
I've always liked the Romanian dongs. Since I probably won't be able to get a GP-25 grenade launcher and cartridges for it, why not a cool grip?

I'm actually hoping to do just that eventually. I've got more important things to buy first, like ammo and plates and pouches for my carrier vest, but I do want a shoulder rig for the Auto Mag. The company that is currently making the holster that Clint Eastwood wore in the Dirty Harry films says on their website that they can make that holster for virtually any medium and large automatic or revolver, and they mention the Auto Mag in particular. It wouldn't be for concealed carry, but instead would be more for wearing out in the woods while camping.
Very cool holster, looks like it was worth the wait! The Automag sounds like it'll be a hoot to shoot too! Also if you're doing plates, I don't know what level you're going for, but Aluminum Oxide ones are ridiculously heavy and I can't recommend them, the Silicon Carbide ones cost a bit more but are lighter and offer similar protection. At least they're not AR500 steel though. I can't believe AR500Armor.com is still in business by the way.

People often buy the biggest and heaviest thinking it equals more protection, but I doubt that. A swimmer's cut is worth considering if you don't have particularly broad shoulders.
Just picked up an AK, was pretty cheap cause the dude made it from a parts kit custom built. I know a lot of people say they're dodgy but ehh I don't plan on shooting it very often and it looks pretty well made to me.
As cool as the whole build it yourself deal is, do follow the advice of the others and get it checked. I love the custom DIY stuff people do and would probably not really be into firearms much otherwise.

Compare it to pictures on the internet, get some headspace gauges (especially if you buy Century Arms stuff) and make sure the Go and No-Go gauges work accordingly. There may be other things but home builds from some dude you don't know, you have no idea if the guy even knows what PROPER HEADSPACE means, let alone heat treating or if he actually riveted the thing correctly.

I know that AK screw builds are a thing for some strange reason, but at least they're not...gasp...weld builds.

Wait, you picked up someones garage build AK? I'd be VERY fucking careful firing that. Probably have it checked out by a smith familiar with AKs first.
Can't do worse than Century Arms. They got caught shaving off part of the bolt heads on some Cetme C308 type rifles to get the rollers to mate with the trunnion instead of, you know, changing out the fucking rollers and ensuring a proper gap between bolt and carrier. H&K guys will know what I'm talking about.

Also, Century used 0.224 barrels to make 5.45 rifles (supposed to be 0.221 or so bore) and to the surprise of no one, shot like an angry monkey flinging poo everywhere.

Not sure if it was the C308, but the C93 definitely had some fucked internals. Which sucks because an affordable HK33 clone would have been neat at the time.

The Tantal was completely fucked stateside because of that barrel mixup - it was bad enough that changing the stock was seen as near impossible(at the time) but keyholding well under 100 yards didn't budge the claim that AKs were for desperate poorfags. You couldn't be sure if you were picking up a good one off the shelf or not but people were still buying them.

California has banned simple possession of unfinished, unserialized 80% lowers.

(at the bill link you can see in the preceding section they have redefined unfinished 80% lowers ("precursor parts") as "firearms")
It looks like if my store sells raw Aluminium stock and I say "Perfect for building your own rifle." That's now a precursor part and has to be serialized. Presumably the same for 3D printer filament.

Nah, their definition says it must be able to be "readily completed, assembled, converted."

Though I guess I wouldnt be surprised to see someone prosecuted for bar stock if they were too blatant about it. (I did just notice they list "extrusions")

Right below that is the "80%s = gUnZ!"

So now if you wave that bar of 7075 at someone they can hit you with felony brandishing.

I didn't see them mention anything about wood 👀
