Most cost-effective gun for self-defense (2022 edition) - Pew-pew for me and you-you

Cool your jets, Cornpop
In all seriousness I can't believe he actually said that. That being said, there are personal defense loads that will maximize energy transfer into the bad guy in most popular calibers. Usually they cost more than normal rounds but they should increase chances of expansion and reduce chances of a pass through and who knows where that's going to end up.

Just make a slamgun or biclock if you want cheap.

Kind of depends on where you live and what your target is as well.

If your residence is about to turn into Escape From NY. I recommend something like a shotgun or anything .45 cal. Best for killing people. Glocks are cheap and reliable for the .45 and Mosseberg and Browning are good shotgun makers, get a pump action.

If you're residence is out in the sticks a bit. I would recommend one of those EVIL AR-15's, with a large Cap Mag. Good people killers and if the food gets too scarce, you can hunt with it. Same with Shotgun's that have bird shot.

And all of these can be relatively cheap when buying used from a few gun stores. As far as maintaining it, learn how to and don't care about how much it sucks. Take care of your gear and your gear will take care of YOU.

The Glock 43 has been recommended by a few of you. I've been eyeing the Glock 26 as a first gun for while now, and they look similar to each other except the 26 can carry more. Any reason why I should/shouldn't pick the 26 or why the 43 is recommended more often than the 26? I'm looking for something that's comfortable in my smaller than average hands.

I'm a huge .45 booster.

On the other hand, bigger is not always better. Avoid 10mm. Unless you're putting down drug-crazed murder-hobos or wild animals, .40, .45, or .357 will serve you just fine, 10mm is more expensive than it's worth, and you'll appreciate not being half deaf for the rest of your life if you ever have to fire it indoors.

I like my CZ-75 Shadow personally but that’s probably more than a beginner’s gun.

I adore CZ guns. Not quite the most budget-friendly gun ever, but also not the worst. A beginner wouldn't have any problem with one, but it doesn't fit the title of the thread.

I dunno. I'm kind of in favor of laying down rounds and killing on site. Especially if it's close quarters, little bit of temporary hearing loss is okay in my book, so long as you get to draw the next breaths.

Seeing as this is @NoReturn's thread. I keep seeing you in Lesbian and Women's only posts. Why don't you get you one of those Bulldykes with a nice high and tight and an angry scowl or a Man that you can kick out the bed at 3 in the morning to rack some rounds into a would-be assailant? Not Asking to be insulting, just curious.

But .40, .45, or .357 will kill a person very dead. And not all of hearing loss is temporary. Some of it comes back, but not all. From what I've read, up to 15% of it is permanent.

The most cost-effective firearm I own is a surplus 7.62 x 25 mm Polish Tokarev semiautomatic pistol. I bought it a few years ago online from Classic Firearms for $250 and it's an absolute dreamboat of a gun, in near-perfect condition, with hundreds of rounds fired through it without malfunction of the pistol, although the cheap commie milsurp Bulgarian ammo I sometimes use at the range will sometimes fail to fire. I put a compensator on it because the muzzle of the Tok has a tendency to tip-up when shooting. Even with Biden's idiotic Russian ammo embargo in place, Tokarev ammo is still readily commercially available and relatively inexpensive.

So yeah: powerful, accurate, reliable, and cost-effective.

If you just had to shoot someone, and this was unavoidable, which gun would you use?

In terms of "best at killing humans" the obvious answer is an AR-15/18 — if anybody can debate this I should like to see the argument. Unless you find yourself committing self-defense at 750 yards through heavy jungle brush, an Armalite carbine is the best weapon for the job. Rittenhouse more or less proved that the argument about long barrels and FMJ being bad for CQB is irrelevant, and prolonged military use has proved its value at medium range.

The question is: does it match the cost-efficient criteria? I don't think so(although it's extremely reasonable for what you get), hence my original snarky-but-true post on page 1.

And you can print 'em.

Wanted this to be a general thread, not about me specifically.
But speaking personally, you won't always have a man or a linebacker lesbian around. It's good to know what options are out there for the smaller lady or the lithe gentleman.

The 7.62 x 25 is a very underrated round.

7.62x39 will remain cheap pretty much forever. Wolf is a bad ammo brand that you should avoid; Golden Tiger or similar authentic slavshit rounds are usually great. The SKS is an exceptional & low-cost rifle (average price is $400) that will do anything you need a gun to accomplish. There's plenty of polymer options offered up by companies such as PSA but if you want the swiss army knife of guns, SKS is your best bet. Sadly the AK platform is too well-known to be cheap anymore. Never buy any gun made in Turkey. Also be aware that this is a big Soviet boolet & should not be used for home defense, you will miss, fire through a wall and kill someone's dog 2 blocks away.

Fudd hunting rounds can be expensive but they have a secret buff that prevents them from ever being banned by the federal government since Joe Biden isn't afraid of them. Do not underestimate the power of buying some dead grandparent's 30-30. These also aren't made for home defense.

Shotgun shells will always be cheap (because you can make them) and they are viable for home defense since pellets tend not to over-penetrate through walls while penetrating reliably through humans. Used shotguns thrown away by police are dime-a-dozen so anything constructed in the United States & not visibly rusted will suit your purposes for about $200 - 300. The Ithaca 37 is one of the finest firearms ever made but beware pussified variants that take measures to prevent slamfire.

When it comes to pistols do not trust your life to meme rounds like 9mm, .22 or 9mm. You should not entrust your life to 9mm. If you are shopping for personal protection, it's important to look for specific details such as ensuring it is not chambered in 9mm. Tyrone will take another dab of PCP & bath salts like a potion in World of Warcraft upon being hit with 9mm & he will not be dead. If you buy anyway 9mm I will tell you to use it on yourself knowing full well you will just wake up in the hospital a few hours later. Instead spring for .45 ACP or 10mm. There are plenty of Czech or Sig Sauer options that won't exceed $600.

I never recommend black polymer hunks of crap chambered in glorified varmint rounds like 5.56 but I understand some people like the look & find such rounds easier to fire. The aftermarket on these items is also incredible because scared liberals will buy one, keep it pristine in a drawer, remember guns are scary later & sell them. These are also cheap but they are cheap for a reason. You should really scroll up & look at the SKS, or if you're a tacticool retard consider FN SCAR platform (which is only cheap relative to the standard regarding big-boy modular rifles.)

Using stripper clips in a home defense situation seems like an iffy idea. I know that detachable mags exist for the SKS, but at a glance they seem to cost twice what an AR-15 mag would go for--to say nothing of the ergonomics.

Why would you be using an SKS for home defense? Unless it's Los Angeles in the 1990's & your home is more of a Korean grocery store.
