Flat character arcs only work for supporting characters, which Giorno is by all accounts. Bruno is the main character of the arc and spending most of our time with a flat side character as the focus instead of the actual main character is simply shitty writing. Its one of the many reasons that Diavolo's defeat at Giorno's hand is completely unearned and anti-climatic.Yeah not to mention how Giorno also is a static background character throughout his own part. Like he has what the pretentious people call the "Flat Character arc" where he exists to uplift others, but that doesn't mean he's good. He's definitely the weakest Jojo whose only a sort of interesting character up until he meets the gang.
It would be different if Bruno acted as a sort of mentor for Giorno and his death led to a major character change in Giorno, giving more meaning to the final boss fight than "you killed a guy I knew for a week and sell drugs, guess you gotta die now". But that doesn't happen and it really sucks because that's actually a really good idea for a JoJo story, especially about a Jojo who is Dio's son. Which is frankly another character aspect that is completely forgotten almost immediately after its brought up.
I like part 5, but its a complete mess because Giorno is its main character. Put any other Jojo, especially Jolyne who suffered from the opposite problem in her part, and you have one of the best JoJo stories ever made.
