Yeah not to mention how Giorno also is a static background character throughout his own part. Like he has what the pretentious people call the "Flat Character arc" where he exists to uplift others, but that doesn't mean he's good. He's definitely the weakest Jojo whose only a sort of interesting character up until he meets the gang.
Flat character arcs only work for supporting characters, which Giorno is by all accounts. Bruno is the main character of the arc and spending most of our time with a flat side character as the focus instead of the actual main character is simply shitty writing. Its one of the many reasons that Diavolo's defeat at Giorno's hand is completely unearned and anti-climatic.

It would be different if Bruno acted as a sort of mentor for Giorno and his death led to a major character change in Giorno, giving more meaning to the final boss fight than "you killed a guy I knew for a week and sell drugs, guess you gotta die now". But that doesn't happen and it really sucks because that's actually a really good idea for a JoJo story, especially about a Jojo who is Dio's son. Which is frankly another character aspect that is completely forgotten almost immediately after its brought up.

I like part 5, but its a complete mess because Giorno is its main character. Put any other Jojo, especially Jolyne who suffered from the opposite problem in her part, and you have one of the best JoJo stories ever made.

I thought it was pretty good. The premise is interesting and the stands seem really cool from what we've seen (Although it's a given that at least one of their powers will get tweaked in some way in the coming chapters)
Jodio is quickly becoming one of my favorite JoJos despite being just "Giorno but an actual character." This page was what sold me on him.

Kid is an unrepentant punk whose only loves in life are family, money, and bitches in that order. I hope we get to see him actually grow as a character over the story and not have his quirks immediately dropped whenever it becomes coinvent to do so like Giorno and Gappy. Dragona being a troon? is a bit iffy but his character seems fine otherwise being a sort of criminal guardian for Jodio like Bruno was for Giorno and honestly being a troon isn't nearly the strangest character quirk Araki has come up with so it's whatever. We didn't really get to see much of the rest of the gang so I'll hold out on my opinions of them for now although I am interested in seeing what Pink Guy's stand is since the one's we've seen so far are pretty cool. I'm cautiously optimistic for JoJolands since it's in the same spot JoJolion was when it began, and we all know how quickly that went to shit.

I mostly skimmed and dunno how to really feel about it. Kind of sighed and just started to breeze through it after COVID got namedropped and it was revealed Dragona is a sort of pseudo-tranny because I know he's going to ruin conversation about the Part in most circles of the internet. Body horror's still top tier, and I'll give it a more proper reread sometime but I swear any sign of any sort of political discourse just saps my energy towards a product.

To be fair with Jojolion, a lot of stuff for it was cut due to personal stuff with Araki (mainly COVID)

When it comes to coronavirus, even though we all want to stop the spread of infection, we don't also want to stop people from going outside or crash the economy. This world is full of contradictory rules we call dilemmas. When it comes to manga, there's a set number of pages. Even though I want to keep the story progressing on schedule for the sake of my readers, there are other things I want to draw but must tearfully erase. It really is full of dilemmas. Theory alone can't solve a dilemma, and it may be only in the world of fiction that we can approach dilemmas. Volume 25 depicts such a dilemma.

I can see why he decided, to at least at the start, make part 9 a more light hearted afair then if its a weird response to COVID world effecting JOJOlion

Enjoying it so far, like someone said before I'm happy they're not doing the lame moralfag shit with Jodio and he's gonna be a straight criminal unlike Giorno. Also glad Araki made sure to say "he" for Dragona so trannies don't start their shit.

Isn't the Dragona just an otokonoko.
Otokonoko with chest injections, which is rare but again, when you get into this sorta shit from a writer like Araki I expected something unconventional from the guy who made "gay black priest teams up with the KKK to kill his brother's GF"

Neither Pucci nor his brother are black to any degree, the entire thing is a misunderstanding based on the fact that Weather’s “adoptive” mother had a black boyfriend. Pucci is just a dark-skinned Italian, this is more clear in the anime where his father has the same skin tone as him (versus the colorized manga where both of his parents are light-skinned).

The shit was already started, I'm afraid. "Araki said trans rights" is already being plastered all over Twitter.

Eh I should have expected that, considering they do it with other trap characters that are clearly stated males, that's just troons being troons. As long as Araki doesn't cuck out like the Guilty Gear devs did then we're fine, I feel like if he wanted to make him a tranny he would have did it right out the gate.

I mean the gender for Dragona in the translations are really a guess by the translators (they've said so themselves) given there's no gendered language used in the original Japanese text, not to mention the whole popular meme in Japan of calling Ermes Big Bro so the thing is who really knows.

Especially since Dragona could just be AU Anasui where Araki retries an attempt to have a character go beyond the concept of gender so they're probably not a normal femboy or trans. Wouldn't care either way, just wanted to point that out since everyone is jumping to conclusions.

I'd laugh if the Japanese tourist was Joshu, especially if somehow he bodies the crew.

haven’t had the opportunity to read the new chapter yet but on the topic of Part 5, I started watching the anime recently (read the manga a few years ago) and the biggest issue is that Giorno is a goodie-two-shoes with the biggest Mary-sue red flag, he’s always right even when he realistically shouldn’t be. Like his one cool moment of development is in the Babyface fight when he figures out that he can use Gold Experience to replace damaged body parts, and that’s literally it. The whole “drugs bad” motivation was honestly also kinda nonsensical. It would’ve been better if the central ideological conflict was completely centered around Bruno, who sees his men and the people in his turf as his family, versus Diavolo, who sees people as nothing more than tools to be disposed of when their existence is no longer convenient.

I would definitely like to see how “what if Giorno but actually a criminal” plays out throughout this part.
The "drugs are bad" thing is a common mafia trope in stories featuring them as protagonists. It goes back to the social stigma towards drugs and the cliche of the mafia being "honorable criminals". IE drugs=bad, but all other vices (prostitution, gambling, bootlegging) are acceptable.

Honestly more curious on Dragona's (and Jodio's) race than his gender/sexuality right now. People are saying that he's either half black, half native hawaiian, half carribean/latin american or just really tanned (shit im throwing a coin and wondering if she's half Filipino seeing how common they are in Hawaii to the point that its popular to joke about Ilocano being Hawaii's 3rd language due to Ilocanos making up 85% of the Filipinos in Hawaii.) Especially seeing that he mentions skin color when he got busted by the cops. I dont think Filipino's and Native Hawaiian's pull that card often, maybe the latino's and carribean's (especially African descent ones) so who knows...

Maybe once we see the daddy will we finally see it, kinda like how the Joestar bros are both of differing skin colors like with Pucci and Weather. Perhaps dad takes design cues from Pucci idk...

Yeah the race is honestly a bit more of a question to ponder (compared to gender since it doesn't help Jojo lacks up to date official translations cause Viz are idiots), but I think the father is probably ethnic in some way. I can't really see a tan cause of what they said to the officer. It could be just ambiguous for all we know and Araki will never show the father like in Part 3 for all we know

Oh yeah the new Crazy Diamond Demonic Heartbreak chapter was translated
