Minecraft

Of course, everyone is taking the bait hook, line and sinker, because "griefer bad so griefer ban good", applauding this decision. Except the broader issue is far far worse.

the point of the coping comments is because of an exploit found that allowed griefers to find all hosted servers that are hosted no matter if it's private or not but this raises the question as to why such a bug was kept unfixed for a long time?
>inb4 they didn't know
while that is true, it doesn't downplay this gay jewish tactic of oppressing the "bad guys" to gain approval but then turning into innocents while still using le bad guyse as a way to keep it unable to be criticized.
fucking microsoft...

So, in other news, do you guys remember Mowzie's Mobs? The Twitter crowd sure did and not for any good reasons.

Long story short (at least from what I've seen), Quackity is doing a Modded SMP where the Barakoa mob of that mod was renamed to "native". For obvious reasons, the Twitter mob didn't take too kindly to this and decided to take action.

However, it wasn't enough to just get on Quackity's case about it so, they went after the mod creator himself. As a result, the creator has decided to redesign the mob to be more "culturally sensitive" as some would say.

Here's the tweet from the creator of mod along with the twitlonger:

Oh yeah, and apparently this guy is the culprit behind this BS. Here's the tweet along with the twitlonger where he tries to explain himself:

I fucking hate twitter fags.

Hey, everyone. Recently, some Minecraft Youtubers encountered the Barakoa in a livestream and made some insensitive remarks and jokes comparing them to real-world cultures. This prompted a surge of discussion around the Barakoa, with many people pointing out that they evoke harmful stereotypes used to dehumanize indigenous people. And after talking with the community, I have accepted the uncomfortable truth that they are right: the Barakoa are racist.

These sentiments are not new and did not emerge suddenly. Unbeknownst to me, a large population of players of native and other backgrounds have been unable to enjoy Mowzie’s Mobs for years due to discomfort around the Barakoa’s design. It pained me tremendously to learn this; I sought to create a mod for everyone, and I failed. I’m so sorry to all of you who were hurt by this.

Many people, including myself, have been quick to point out that the Barakoa are inspired by Tokoloshes, goblin-like evil spirits from Zulu mythology. They suggest that the Barakoa are not racist because they were not designed with racist intentions or origins. But this defense misses the point. Intentions and origins do not decide a mob’s execution and reception. In other words, when new players see a Barakoa, they don’t see what they are based on or what I intended them to be, they see what they are. Players see stereotypical tribal beings attacking them. Some players are familiar with these stereotypes. Some players associate these stereotypes with a particular real-world culture. Some players laugh at these stereotypes and make inappropriate jokes. Some players are disgusted and uninstall the mod. I cannot continue publishing content that elicits any of these responses.

The fact is that I made mistakes when I designed the Barakoa. I took influence from sources that I did not realize at the time were harmful. I unknowingly echoed despicable portions of human history. It’s unfortunate, but we all have unconscious biases and prejudices. These don’t make us bad people, but we do have a responsibility to identify and reject these biases in favor of education and growth. To listen to those who know more than us about worlds we are not a part of. I hope all of you will join me in recognizing that the Barakoa are a product of such biases and that they can be better.

So it’s time for some big changes! My team and I have been communicating closely with concerned community members who have many excellent ideas on how the Barakoa can be improved and reworked. I have an incredibly talented team already brainstorming a new direction for the mob. We are all committed to making the new mobs even better than the originals: politically, artistically, and mechanically. This is an opportunity for Mowzie’s Mobs, and I hope you are all as excited as I am for what’s to come!

This reply pretty much sums up my thoughts on the whole thing (English is a little broken, but you get the idea):

The funniest part about this whole ordeal is the fact the Barakoa are based on the Eloko (an African cryptid). If anything, they're paying homage to the culture rather than stereotyping it.

Shame these people weren't willing to look into it beyond "racist stereotype", but y'know what they say about people that see something and immediately assume it's offensive.

Which also explains the unnecessary mods to donate to either Black Lives Matter or Stop Asian Hate, among other politically woke things.

I don´t know if it was intentional but that twitter post looks ironic with the basketball players in it.

The thing is, it's a lose-lose situation (especially if you're white) because if you do include things from non-western cultures it's racist appropriation, and if you don't include them it's also racist because you're being Eurocentric and exclusionary. So in other words, the only people allowed to include something based off of the Eloko are black Americans or Africans. Ironically though, the black Americans would also be culturally appropriating if they were held to the same standards, because culturally speaking they're not from Africa either.

A week or so ago I redownloaded Minecraft after years of not playing/paying attention to the community (last version I had played was modded 1.7.10). The fact that I have to use ATlauncher to avoid making a Microshit account is fucking bullshit, I bought the game when it was still in beta and it sucks seeing what's become of it.

On a more positive note, what are some of your favorite memories of playing the game? For me it was when I used to play (grief) on modded faction servers. It was fun because players would join a server intended for PvP and raiding, spend a month or so fully automating a base with build/industrialcraft and the various magic mods, and then ragequit when I found them and blew them up.

Also, if anybody remembers Thaumcraft, the mod added an endgame level wand that would "ward" blocks to make them unbreakable. Warding bases was probably the most common way players would attempt to defend themselves from other factions, but there was actually an item from the Botania mod that could get you past the wards and inside their bases (I think it was called the spirit rail or something, it would turn a minecart intangible for a few seconds). I had looked up that exploit on various modding forums and subreddits, and at the time I was playing I think I was one of the only person to have discovered it. Needless to say a lot of people got mad at me when I managed to grief them even though they'd warded everything.

Here is the only screenshot of my teenage griefing adventures I still have- I built a cobblestone box around somebody's destroyed base so monsters would spawn inside of it. Needless to say they didn't come back to the server after that.minecraft_trolling.png

real 4d chess gamers have a base surrounded by a layer of hungry nodes.

Funny you mention that, I actually built a (decoy) base around a hungry node once. I had this whole town set up that had just enough buildcraft pipes and stuff to look like it was a functioning base, but every single building was booby trapped in some some way. The obsidian church with the hungry node inside was my favorite, but I also had a garden full of the wither flowers Biomes O' Plenty added and a house that filled with molten metal once you got far enough inside that escape was basically impossible.

Sadly the fake base only ever saw a single victim before getting destroyed. After one of the server jannies found out I'd griefed him, he went into an autistic fit and used creative mode to level the entire thing thinking it was my actual base. RIP Hungry Node Temple.

Tell me both
For modded: 1.16.5 mostly and sometimes 1.18+. I like a lot of the modern mods that have been coming out lately and watching what modders do with the new stuff is a fun hobby of mine. Also, Blood magic is my favorite mod and it getting ported to 1.16.5 and 1.18.2 gave me more reason to make the move.

Otherwise, I'm fine with playing vanilla nu-minecraft.

Id really like to see some of the spacefaring, pipehitting engineering (except terrafirma+gregtech kys) modpacks ported to latest, such is the tragedy of minecraft modding that 1.12.2 was the golden era.
