Babylon 5 - A underrated sci-fi show.

Despite the pilot for the reboot not being picked up for the 2022 fall TV season, the CW CEO Mark Pedowitz says the Babylon 5 reboot is still very much in active development. Aim is for fall 2023.

Just watched the 90s Babylon 5. I guarantee you they're going to fuck this up.

Babylon 5 was an experiment on how to keep a science fiction show that isn't Star Trek long-running. CW's gonna take all of that and turn it into a CGI Star Trek fuckfest. Thay'll probably throw J. Michael Straczynski's ideas out the window.

Why fucking bother then? B5 was always a niche show, it never had the broad appeal of Star Trek. All this will do is alienate fans. The CW demographic won't be into the show and CW will end up cancelling it because it's too fucking expensive. They'll just burn the small but dedicated fan base they have.
At least Firefly is going to be left alone, right?

Go ahead JMS, destroy the only show you made that people loved.
It's going to follow the narrative.

"B5 was always diverse".
"This B5 is not for you".
"The B5 universe doesn't need racists".
"If you don't like the changes, you're a bigot".

It's practically a checklist at this point.
He's selling his soul to shit on his legacy.
Honestly, it's just sad.

Animated movie coming very soon.

‘Babylon 5’ Animated Movie in the Works, Series Creator J. Michael Straczynski Says

By Joe Otterson

A “Babylon 5” animated movie is in the works from original series creator J. Michael Straczynski.

“BABYLON 5 ANIMATED MOVIE [sic] coming from Warner Bros. Animation & WB Home Entertainment!” Straczynski announced via Twitter. “Classic B5: raucous, heartfelt, nonstop, a ton of fun through time and space & a love letter to the fans. Movie title, release date and other details coming one week from today.”

Straczynski further said that the film is “already finished and in the can” and that “it feels the most B5-ish of anything we’ve done since the original show.”

The original “Babylon 5” was produced by Warner Bros. Television. The series ran in syndication and on TNT for five seasons, 110 episodes, and seven TV movies, including the 1993 pilot film. The show is considered one of the best sci-fi series ever made by many critics and won numerous awards throughout its run, including two Hugo Awards and a Saturn Award.

The show took place on the titular Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. The cast for the series included Bruce Boxleitner, Claudia Christian, Jerry Doyle, Mira Furlan, and Richard Briggs. Straczynski followed up “Babylon 5” with the TNT spinoff series “Crusade.” The “Babylon 5” franchise also includes novels, short stories, and comic books. A reboot series was announced as being in development at The CW in 2021, but there have been no updates on the project since.

Straczynski’s other work includes the Netflix series “Sense8,” which he co-created and showran along with the Wachowskis. His feature writing credits include the Angelina Jolie-led drama “Changeling,” the action-thriller “Ninja Assassin,” the story for the first “Thor” film, and the story for “World War Z.” He is also an accomplished comic book writer, having worked for DC and Marvel.

I think this will be good.

I do not share your optimism.

It already was. What can a new version add that wasn't already there? Better special effects, I suppose. But I'd grant even that grudgingly since that was never a weakness in the show. Did it all on Amigas and it was gorgeous. So anyway, they can slap some modern CGI gloss on a remake? Hardly worth the cost of replacing the original cast. Could anybody ever compare to Peter Jurassic and Andreas Katsulas as Londo and G'kar? Is anybody ever going to give a little wave more delightfully than Stephen Furst as Vir or pull such a perfect expression as Claudia Christian just as the elevator doors are closing and Delenn says "I've been getting these cramps." Or Delenn herself played by Mira Furlan with that slightly throaty, accented voice which was so perfect.

And could anybody ever rock a leather waistcoat like Patricia Tallman as my favourite telepath (sorry Talia and Bester - but the redhead always wins)?

So many great characters played by great actors. I'm sorry - they cannot be replaced.

I agree every actor on the show was great. But I don't think the actors that passed on will be in this. The characters just won't be there. No one replacing anyone I hope.

Well that's interesting but I don't see how it can be Babylon 5 without those characters.

But this is a successful series that is now long enough ago that remaking it is probably inevitable. And it's already funded? Perhaps we just have to accept that the avalanche has started and it is too late for the pebbles to vote.
