I don't think I've believed him a single time whenever Nick claims that a stream is canceled because he has to drive his kids somewhere or something. Nick just doesn't want to talk about legal matters because it reminds him about how badly he's losing his case despite all the money he's poured into it.
That's the intent of the DMs, is to get him "directly involved". I feel like Null was more a observer/bystander until that little revelation. When DM's got involved, it could be countered as being "a personal issue" or "pleasing the Farms". It's why Nick must "befriend" everyone who is within reach, fans included. There's always the potential that he can be exposed from within the community, and with people in DM's, there's the potential to influence/sniff anything before it happens... plus he can milk info he can turn against them. Notice he's always feeling for other people's deficiencies and telling them how they can go about fixing them.
Even though Null was something of an observer/bystander, Null was in talks with Nick throughout his decline (and prior to that). They still corresponded, but it seems like Nick's refusal to pull up and immature tactics to pressure Null have caught up with him, and here we are.
Rather than Nick suddenly DMing Null to pull him into drama, it is more likely a friendship semi-professional relationship (where DMs were already in use) gone bad. It tracks with Null not finding Nick's decline very funny (hence the light MATI coverage), and why Nick thought he could leverage Null with a wink and a nudge. Their relationship is apparently not what either of them thought it was and neither of them seem very happy about that.
Nick is without a doubt trying to manipulate Null though. Apparently, Nick does that with a lot of people and it's unclear if he knows any other way to communicate. Though Nick bookends some of what he says with generalizations and appeals to goodwill, the meat of what he says is gaslighting, "joking", defensive statements, blame/topic shifting, or feigning ignorance under the pretense of being a "good-natured asshole".
However, Nick is also a lolcow at heart and Null is more than qualified to handle him now that Nick's mask has slipped further.
1. Divorce: Topic is being widely discussed here again. He talked a lot about divorce on Coomalot's stream, the last third of the show. Topics: Steve Harvey & Kevin Cosner's. For the most unprepared streamer in LawTube, Nick knew his facts on divorce. Just say'n.
2. Driving: On Simpcast Nick was in chat while on stream. Someone asked if Kayla did any driving in the 70 hours total on the vacation. Nick replied "no".
3. Vic's GoFundMe: Nick discussed that he didn't take a cent but that he's the ONLY person who knows the identity of those who contributed. It's at Rumble 5:30:25 here. So if you donated, Nick believes that he knows who you are & he's reveling in it. It was weird.
