Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

IMMEDIATE reveal of Mario v DK, bold lol
does anybody actually care though? This series has been shovelware for so long, it's never been exciting to me

EDIT: nevermind, this actually seems to be returning to the first game, which had interesting gameplay instead of braindead autorun puzzles. Intrigued...

EDIT 2: Oh, it's a GBA remake. Adds local co-op, which is cool. Same generic remake style as every other Mario remake this gen though...

Launches Feb 2024, I think?
MVDK was one of my personal favorites for the gba. That and mario kart super circuit. I'm actually very happy about this remaster and I'll most likely pick it up. But not for 60, maybe 40.
I can’t really speak for much of the Direct but the Sora amiibo announcement is really interesting, I remember reading somewhere that the most recent update for Ultimate (and the last as per Sakurai’s word) doesn’t actually have amiibo data for Sora. Oh god I hope they patch Steve’s jankiness if they update the game.

Gamecube games can get expensive on the secondary market and last time I checked TTYD was one of the more expensive titles.
The disc alone for TTYD can go for 80$.

I'm surprised that the remake of Luigi's Mansion 2 is coming in the summer, though. Makes me wonder when the Switch 2 is getting released.

Remember the 3ds was still getting remakes of games like the first luigi's mansion over a year into the switches life so it might just be a game that comes out on the current switch after the next console is announced, there is also the possibility that the new console will be backwards compatible with 1st party games so all these remakes being made might be able to be played on the new console regardless

If there's no hard mode then I hope it's at least rebalanced to be more difficult by default, especially considering the new stuff they're adding to combat.

Switch is a special case, it's the first time they don't have a second system to fall back on. 3DS kept them chugging through the failure of the Wii U, if Switch 2 bombs they're kinda fucked. I think they're gonna play it careful for a while, if they're smart.
Well they did manage to break into the movie industry with a massive success

That was pretty good. High fives to the people making Horizon Chase 2. The game looks a bit jank but it'll probably be more of the same solid fun.

That new Atlus game Unicorn Overlord has my attention. Atlus always get at least a look or two.

Super Princess Galaxy 2 looks good.

F-Zero 99 is a winner.

I am actually interested in Mario RPG now.

Trombone Hero is still the dumbest fucking thing I have ever seen and I can't stop laughing. Buying it tonight. No hesitation. We will have so much fun with this.

Is Wargroove going to trick me again?

MARIO KART. WE BRUNETTE NOW.

Wario Ware with motion controls is great every time.

Paper is good. Nintendo seeeeeeeem to maybe be remembering turn based games with action commands. Also it isn't every day you get a remake of a really excellent game.

Luigi's Mansion 2 is really good but stuck behind shitty controls. This looks better.

I'll probably buy Tomb Raider.

Oh and Mario vs. Donkey Kong is fucking awesome and I hope they also include the stuff from Tipping Stars.

It was a good Direct.

Enjoyable enough Nintendo Direct, really excited for all the neat Mario stuff coming out. Mario Wonder next month, than the SMRPG remake which I’m hyped for and now a Thousand Year Door remake and Mario VS Donkey remake! Us Mario autists are eating good!

Hopefully someday F-Zero bros will have a real new game to be excited for.

A new Amiibo emulator type has dropped. I've been looking for a good one as my N2 Elite/Amiiqo died a year ago
I want to point out that it finally came in and is branded as an allmiibo, so I was able to find the app to manage it with. Not that it matters yet, as it came preloaded with the entire amiibo library. This thing works pretty well, you can use any amiibo, it can randomly generate id numbers so you can scan the same amiibo multiple times in the same day. Battery was nearly dead when it arrived though which might be why it can't connect to my phone by Bluetooth, but it was cheap and came with amiibos preloaded so even if changing the battery doesn't fix it I'm happy.

I am so fucking tired of remakes and remasters.
Feels like half of the big games announced lately have been one or the other.
Would you rather play a 20 year old game that has stood up to the test of time or a brand new one that contains current diversity and microtransaction values?

Honestly i'm happy to get it, but I do really wish Nintendo had better virtual console support, to the point that Wii, Wii U, and 3DS/DSi games could be linked to your Switch account and played on it.
If they do that for the Switch 2, I hope it comes with a digitizer to support a stylus.

If I wanted to play an old game, I'd go and play the game. Most consoles can be emulated well by now, and I'd assume most of the worth while classic games can be emulated with no hassle.
A couple of years ago I was interested in seeing what all the fuss of TTYD was about, so I just went and played it, anyone with half a braincell could do this.
Your second point is kind of moot in this particular thread, since Nintendo is one of the better Devs and mostly avoids "current day" and microtransaction.

Agreed. The new Princess Peach game looks really cool. I hope she gets more outfits in the game. She looks good in any outfit she wears I swear.
The remasters for Lm2 and MvD are games that I have played before and enjoyed. Im really happy that they are bringing back Scarescraper mode. I remember playing that mode back on the 3DS 10 years ago.

O and TTYD remake does look flawless. I didnt expect to see that.

Overall, real solid direct.

I hope they have some outfits that are nice references to past Mario history. Maybe like a play that takes place in a space or sci-fi setting so she has to wear the Satellaview space suit Mario had. Just near stuff like that would be cool, but the game looks cute and probably a fun enough time.

I was really shock at the Thousand Year door remake too. Though I guess there was some rumors a few months ago but you know how these Nintendo rumors are. Still waiting on that Star Fox racing game people said was coming in like 2019 lol.

I was surprised to find out that the food in Unicorn Overlord on the English Direct is different from the Japanese Direct I've watched.

Also a bunch of trailers off the nippon Nintendo Direct:

Stray Children (from the same dev team of Moon RPG) is apparently getting an english release

On one hand, Holy Fuck between TTYD and Mario RPG getting a remake, it seems Nintendo finally remembered how to make a good Mario RPG again.
But on the other hand, I'm a little sad we still haven't gotten a proper successor to TTYD with a vast new world of interesting characters and subspecies of mario creatures that aren't just recolored Toads x100. Now if only they could dig up AlphaDream's grave and make a Partners in Time remake.

Cross Generation has basically became the standard now. It wouldn't cost them much to just release an inferior version of games on the Switch for a few years as long as they sell.

The thing is, Nintendo is going to want to encourage people to pick up the new console and get it off to a good start. That means good exclusives, not a bunch of cross platform releases outside the launch window. Also, if the Switch 2 is backwards compatible, then cross platform games wouldn't really be necessary.

If this is successful (and it definitely will be), maybe Nintendo/Intelligent Systems will finally drop their "No, it's the children who are wrong" mentality and trust that the fans might know what they're talking about.

I'm still mad they skipped over Partners in Time, an older (and thus more appropriate for a rerelease) game that actually could have benefitted from a remake.

Hence why I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of stuff was deliberately not shown in this Direct, as they're having them be for the Switch 2.

So would you guys agree with the general consensus that the Direct was mid this time?

They can have exclusives for Switch 2 and keep making Switch 1 games of lower caliber; remasters, remakes, ports, and low budget stuff. I just don't see them slitting its throat and banking everything on their new system.

Assuming the Switch 2 releases 2025 that's only a year off from the next mainline Pokemon games. It won't matter if spinoffs like Detective Pikachu and remasters like TTYD are also on Switch 1 when new mainline entries are exclusive to the new platform where people will flock to.

I think it's pretty reasonable to expect about a year of life-support, I don't think they've ever immediately, completely stopped publishing games for a console before even when they were in safer positions, so I don't see that changing now.

These look better than everything in the English direct except Unicorn Overlord.

One thing that’s got me annoyed though after all this time of porting and remakes is…. WHERE THE FUCK IS MY XENOBLADE X PORT YOU JAPANESE FAGS! You going to tell me that one of the best open worlds is going to be stuck on the fucking Wii U forever while you ported shit like Tokyo Mirage…. There’s no justice in this world.
