Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

people have been comparing Pokemon to dogfighting/cockfighting/puppy mills ever since it got popular and it's as tiresome as saying videogames cause mass shootings. It's hard to tell when it's a joke when there are people actually arguing that breeding fake monsters is just as bad as real puppy mills.
Whenever people make this comparison, I am always reminded of these really shitty PETA games. You know the ones.

It always makes me mad that Shigeki Morimoto directed my two favorite Pokemon games, Emerald and HGSS, and then they never let him direct again. Let my man free to make another banger.
This, but for me it's also Iwao. Man has some talent and quite a few good ideas that you would never see in a mainline title for being "too risky". I want him to make a proper mainline title at some point, or at least direct the Gen 5 remake.
I wonder if Kawachimaru still works at Game Freak, Platinum is still one of my favorite Pokemon games of all time and one I probably spend the most amount of time on back in the day.

If you don't like it then it was probably at your expense. There is nothing wrong with making real world comparisons because you yourself said people call it digital cock fighting. If you can't tell when someone is joking that's a personal problem you have, not mine. I'm not going to give up my free speech because boomers say it unironically and it upsets people who can't tell jokes from actual outrage. You seem very MatI.

If you criticize modern Pokemon designs, someone will remind you of Raticate, Krabby, Dewgong, Voltorb, Magneton and Muk, even if you're not a Kanto fan.
Sad thing is that this is something that was just lost to time because Pokémon would drop the concept themselves. The original Pokémon look "uninspired" because they're supposed to represent evolved real world animals, which is visibly apparent with the Normal and Water type Pokémon, specifically. The weirder ones were supposed to be more modern due to urbanization.

Now that Pokémon is no longer meant to be a parallel to our world, that means designs need to be more creative, even though you'll still see real animal inspirations if only because fans have always gone on about "Hey, wouldn't it be cool to have a dolphin/koala/zebra/etc. Pokémon?" Unova being a "mirror" of Kanto rustled the Genwunners' jimmies that they ended up pointing it out to everyone, thus tainting the experience, and that's why Kanto-pandering remains a problem. Never mind that Kanto Pokémon have always been around in newer regions in some capacity, but it was the first game to be of a completely new PokéDex from the start, and those "fans" couldn't have that. How dare Game Freak try something new! Gimme muh Charizards you bastardssssss!

I enjoy Gen VI to an extent, but it really did rub me the wrong way that the Kanto-pandering was that blatant and Mega Evolutions relied so much on it instead of being its own damn thing.

All of the original XY Megas were just a giant greatest hit compilation to cover the most bases with the least amount of effort.

It didn't help that they all looked someone's Digimon OC they drew back in primary school.

I'm not the biggest fan of gen I, but you raise a very good point about their designs. That certainly would explain why Kanto is the only Pokemon region named after a real place, and why the early anime and games referenced real animals and places so often. It certainly feels that they intended to make "our world, but with some magical animals" and ended up with "a different world with magical animals that looks like ours" as they kept adding more of them.

Gen VI's Kanto pandering was honestly embarrassing. The forced Pidgey encounter, Santalune Forest being an exact remake of Viridian, the Kanto starters, the gift Lapras, the roaming legendary bird, Mewtwo and the Unknown Dungeon, it and Charizard getting two megas. Did you know that if you count form changes as individual Pokemon, gen I is the generation with the most Pokemon?
 
Finally got to the point where I am ready to take the Crown Path, the Victory Road of SuperGold97. Against my better judgment, I decided to switch some team members around and train them since they were woefully underleveled. I assumed I knew what the Elite 4 was going to look like due to the leaks, but the devs threw a curveball and instead made Elite 4 50% retail GS and 50% assumed beta content, leading to a rather unique challenge. That's what prompted the roster change(There is an NPC that spells out what types they will be using at the foot of Mt Fuji btw, so I assumed who I will be facing using that information)

Training was long and tedious, as it always is, but I did manage to find a few items and catch the missing pokemon that I didn't bother with before, that included grabbing The Odd Egg that I somehow missed from the day care(it was a Meowsy btw, a SG97 exclusive baby Meowth form, but like with retail Odd Egg the pokemon vary)

-Extreme Speed
The game re-uses the event from retail game where you get a special egg move Dratini if you answer a few questions correctly. Rather decent pokemon, but it will take even more training to fully evolve it. Annoyingly enough, due to how battle mechanics worked until Gen 4, Dragonbreath is actually weaker than Extreme Speed due to it being a special attack(and there being no physical dragon moves)

Originally an HM slave, it has proven itself good enough to keep around permanently. I love Steelix, but without a competitive moveset it just isn't that good in single player, however it does fulfill a similar role as Miltank did so I am giving it a try. The beta charting makes Steel a lot less effective at tanking hits, as most hits are neutral rather than resisted and Water moves are 4X as effective due to both Steel and Ground being effected by it. Steelix has good speed and sky high defense, sadly it's attack is lackluster but it somewhat makes up for it by artificially lowering enemy's defense with Screech. I was thinking about replacing Rock Throw with Dig, but I figured since Golem has been put on the bench for now, having a Rock attack is more useful than a Ground one.

Originally a catcher pokemon, I figured a Ghost type would be a good thing to tag along. Lack of good special moves like Thunderbolt or Ice Beam hurt it, but I think I am happy with what I got. Just like with Dragonair, sadly Shadow Ball doesn't do nearly as much as it should due to it being classified as a Physical move in this gen, same with the other stab attack like Sludge Bomb.

*VACANT: Waterfall HM slave. Will probably replace with Bomseal, but at the cost that it won't be getting any exp from Crown Path, meaning it might be underlevelled

All in all, I am happy with what I got. There is annoying things like real life and social obligations in the way, but when I find a quiet moment, I think I'm ready to finish the base game.

At least they were well intentioned, and if successful the consequences would be less severe. I think society can handle a lack of Pokemon, but silencing "hate speech" against heckin' valid transwomen not so much.

VI's Kanto pandering was honestly embarrassing.
It's one of the best gens, but I wish they'd do some more Johto pandering.
 
This video very cool about AI and Pokemon. I think it's a bit of a stretch when he tries to draw correlations to humans, but otherwise an interesting watch. No tranny shit either, amazing for a Pokemon video these days.

Finally got to Pokemon League in Supergold 97. Crown Path/Victory Road was actually pretty good, no HM "puzzles" and the only HM you needed was the Waterfall to get up to the cave. Fairly linear dungeon with optional forks in the road and detours for items, challenging and relatively long but doesn't outstay it's welcome either. One of the better final dungeons in Pokemon from what I remember.
Got a good amount of level ups for my team, so I am in good shape. I said that my HM pokemon slot would go to Bomseal once I reached the league, but now I'm thinking I want to use my Miltank. That would leave me with two defensive walls, at the cost of no fire coverage or second water type. Miltank is also considerably underleveled, but not enough so that I can't make it work after a few levels within the Elite 4. I'm thinking I will go for it, if nothing else Milk Drink will save me quite a few potions, and I am running low on money after blowing my life's savings on the casino for Haunter's Covenant orb so it could evolve into Gengar.

I wonder if the AI will start using those ridiculous exploits that people use to quite literally break(or in some cases even reprogram) the game. Hell, I wonder if it will discover them naturally. There have been cases of an AI discovering a previously unknown glitch in gaming before.

Character designs have been terrible as well, but like I said before, I think the current character designers are unintentionally copying designs from their favorite anime but then end up scrambling at the last minute to make them not be copyright infringements. Like how else would you explain the Sword/Shield brothers with the dumbass Yu-Gi-Oh-wannabes hairstyles?

I don't disagree lol, the character designs have absolutely been getting worse too. I haven't enjoyed most major-character designs since BW2 and I've disliked even normal trainers since SMish. I just think that (human) character designs matter way less in a game about collecting monsters (or I guess just battling them now) than the monsters' do.
 
I would honestly like some Spanish players' opinions on how their country and culture has been portrayed in S/V, because I have a hard time finding beauty in the region's wildlife and its peoples, whether in physical looks or fashion. This is really the biggest hang-up I have as to why I haven't touched the games (next to not finishing Shield lol).
Not Spanish but my opinion is that they didn't. Outside of the characters' names and the academy looking like that church in Barcelona there's nothing Spanish about the game. And thats a good thing.
 
That's what was great about old games, the tutorial was a fun and cool booklet if you wanted information, and if not you could just play the damn game and figure it out. I like in-game tutorials but they need to be concise and optional, though they never are.
But everyone used to throw away the bookets that came with the game, and because of this we can no longer have nice things

I agree, but just barely. The main character and Gym Leaders need to be interesting for me to give a shit. They just don't make characters memorable anymore, I remember a couple prominent ones from gen 3, and that's it.

If you put a gun to my head and asked me to cite any Gym or Elite 4 trainer from gen 4 onwards (I remember the champion of gen 4 is a boring guy named fucking Steven, that's it) I'd have to make my peace with death.
