Hit by Youtube's AdBlocker detection. Help needed.

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I got the timed pop-up, followed by the three-video-ultimatum few days later. Currently YouTube doesn't load a single video anymore, only a black screen instead of the player with text begging me to "allowlist" their ads. Started using Freetube with Invidious as a fallback. It's good, although hard to get used to after having YouTube as my first open tab on a browser for way more than a decade. Hard times.

No worries using my generic App Store adblock on macOS and iOS. I’d rather pay a small time anti-advertising developer a few bucks rather than a billion dollar company. But YouTube is so gay these days the only reason I go there is for music production tutorials.

Like ocean sounds interrupted by "HEY YOU BUY PRODUCT"?
The latest ads they have spewing on YouTube have mostly been just music with very little to no talking, so imagine soothing music being interrupted by generic current year nigger music trash. That or an advert for some AAA game that will most likely be shit at launch.

The worst I've ever seen them get at the time of typing this is when they spend 20+ seconds guilt-tripping you into supporting Israel because "that damn dirty Hamas is killing innocent children".

Does anyone know if the popup ever occurs on the YouTube Music site? Got hit with the gay popup again on YouTube main after resetting the settings on uBlock Origin only temporarily worked. Now I'm using FreeTube for videos and having no issues, but YouTube Music seems to be working fine.

YouTube just updated their code again. There's no updated uBO list yet. EDIT - It's been defeated now, so just update your quick fixes list and restart your browser.

Someone created this simple web page that tells you whether the current YouTube detection method has been defeated in uBO or not: -

All you have to do is refresh Quick fixes in uBlock Origin settings and save it, that's what I've been doing before I start watching after I wake up. It takes an extra few seconds.

Right, but that will obviously only work if the uBlock Origin people have defeated the newest detection method and updated the quick fixes script.

Since my last post, YouTube have updated their detection method again and at the time of writing this it is not defeated by uBlock Origin, so if you update the quick fixes script, it's not going to help you right now. That's why that site I linked to is helpful, cos you can see at a glance if the script has been updated or not, and once that site says "YES", you can manually update and you'll be good to go again.

So they also got me with the three-strike lock-out, however I figured out a workaround: turning off uBO, refreshing the page then turning uBO back on before the video loads. Sometimes this results in the visuals not working, however setting the video to Multiplayer Mode and back should fix it.

Additionally things are getting iffy on the YT Music front: before the adblocker for Edge made ads nonexistent, now they're struggling to get in and causing the music to delay.

Oh, I was just using incognito mode when it changed and testing the regular window every so often.

Nowadays they just tell me i am not connected to the internet and i need to refresh the page. They tweak with the code everyday it seems.
I don't really care if youtube shits the bed, more incentive to go and read a book. I would rather go back to analog entertainment than give ad money to someone.

On Brave, I got some warnings with the few seconds wait this week, then I got the Final 3 Strikes warning, and then it all stopped and went back to normal.

I've had a couple of updates to Brave between now and the last time I saw an ad on youtube, so 👍 for Brave.

Before I started using NewPipe to avoid the YT ads on mobile, I used to get a lot of shitty mobile game ads, whether it was injected into the video itself, or took up a spot on the search result/video list. There were a variety of other ads such as tool shops (think Home Depot or Lowe's), restaurants, and foods, but I don't really remember them, since I was focused on waiting for the "skip ad" button to become active.
Recently, I've been getting ads for Grammarly, though they've been blocked when I go to play the video. I think I've also had the same home improvement ads in the past that @Idaho Battle Barn received, but I tend to not pay attention to them except to ignore/skip those that go unblocked.

I've defnitely made note of some of the alternatives should the situation worsen.

Ok after dealing with it for a few days with Brave and no additional adblocks besides the default, I've noticed that it randomly pops up and at worst makes me wait like 5 seconds before I can close the window and I've never seen the strike system. Kinda annoying, but essentially ignorable for me. Are other Brave users experiencing this or is youtube blind firing the features and I just got lucky?

Also I do use the youtube app on my phone when I'm out and about so my account does technically get ads which might also be a factor
