It would have been pretty simple for doctors to perform a uterectomy while Alex was under for the C-section. I know a woman who had to have her uterus removed because of cancer, but they left her ovaries to try and avoid the health problems that come from a full hysterectomy. I can understand how someone with Alex's skeletal abnormalities would need to keep her ovaries for as long as possible, but I don't understand why Alex would want to keep her uterus. If nothing else, menstruation would be a nightmare for her.

Fuck, I was about to argue with you that SMA doesn't shorten lifespan, but her type - type 2 - has a life expectancy of 25 years. The site I went to says that they may live longer with therapies and treatments, but good lord, Alex. Not only did you pop out a kid you can't care for, you'll probably be dead before she goes to Middle School.

Also, this means nothing, but the name of her type of SMA is Dubowitz Disease which I find amusingly similar to her real last name. What are the odds a Dzimtowicz got Dubowitz?

I'll add to the "she definitely knew not to get pregnant" discussion. PL, lots of time spent inside pharmacies. This is from the package insert. Even after finding out, she would have been told to contact a registry which will follow Ari for any issues as she grows. I hope the doc made her do so before they put her back on it. Your first duty as a parent is to give a shit about your kid's health and future. Sure Ari may appear fine now, but daughters of moms who took DES looked fine until they started to try to get pregnant themselves or until they got vaginal cancer. This is something Ari will have to be cognizant of her entire life. Fuck you Alex, you failed motherhood before your kid was even a zygote.

The video is fine for work-- she shows a bathtub but spares us her naked back this time. Video is 6:13 long and contains nothing of particular interest, but it's still funny to see what she thinks a day in a mom's life looks like.

Video summary:

• Asks Ari, who is on her chest, if she's going to be a biker girl or a princess for Halloween.
• Says it's Sunday at that she just woke up. It appears to be late morning or early afternoon, and she says she's ordered brunch. BiPap marks visible on her face, which is also shiny with oil.
• Agrees with commenters that her chest has a lot of sun damage because she's been in the sun too much and doesn't wear sunscreen. Is extremely exposed and in the sun while saying this, so no lessons learned. The auto-generated transcript is struggling, and the overall sound quality is terrible. You can hear wind buffing, so headphone users be warned.
• Says that it's very hard to find a caregiver and that she has always hated the process. She's been finding her own caregivers since she was 17. Says it's hard to train someone and help them learn your routine, and it's difficult to find someone who has to do intimate things for you ("wipe your butt" is her example).
• Abruptly drops that topic and swerves to the pasta she ordered for lunch. She doesn't say where it's from, but it's some kind of pasta with tomato sauce. There's a bottle of Publix-brand ranch dressing next to it, and she says she cut a portion of the pasta up very well and added the ranch "for some lubrication to make it slide down my disabled throat." She's eating outside on that patio.
• Then she's back inside and is "feeding" Ari, except she isn't. She can't get the bottle in Ari's mouth, and Ari is just kind of playing with it. Alex says it's because Ari is teething right now and was done with the bottle and just wanted to play instead, but it's obvious that she can't get the bottle in Ari's mouth correctly.
• Shows a turtle in a tank. Fascinating.
• Cut to a bathtub and a voiceover of her talking about today being her shower day. Throws in a bath bomb in a very influencer way.
• Says she had leftover pasta for dinner (again with ranch). Acknowledges that it looks "kind of disgusting" (it does, yes).
• Says she put Ari in her crib to play a bit before bed. Alex doesn't seem to notice, but you can see that Ari is really thinking about how to crawl. She hasn't figured it out yet, but you can see her move her legs, arms, and torso in the individual motions. It's seriously stinking adorable, but Alex is doomed once Ari starts crawling.
• Shows a meal planning book for babies called Make-Ahead Baby Cook Book (archive).
• Shows herself brushing her teeth in the bedroom and also shows herself spitting into her spit cup. Fabulous. I assume she can't really use the sinks at the Smith house, since they won't be accessible (she wouldn't be able to get up under them to use them), but she doesn't clarify that.

Overview of recent grid posts. Very influencer-y, very beige. I didn't grab screenshots, but they're deleting negative comments about Alex and leaving up the tepid messages of support. I assume they have a ~ good vibes only ~ approach to social media management. I'm not sure about this part-- didn't dig enough-- but I don't think Alex is sharing a unique code. It looks like that's a general discount code they give out, so I'm not really sure of the nature of this partnership or what Alex is getting from it.

I read everything of hers through the lens of "Alex and Noah are getting back together anytime now, and she's prepping her audience."

I suspect the caregiver talk might be more about explaining why Noah continues to be her caregiver. I'm sure he wants to keep getting the (admittedly pretty meager) income and Alex doesn't want to deal with finding someone new - which IS a huge hassle.

I've been in a position to see a few dozen folks have the state money to pay a caregiver but can't find someone who is reliable, ethical, non-exploitative, non-batshit because the job pays about the same as a shitty wagie job in fast food or retail but involves ass-wiping. It also generally doesn't require much education - in CA you take like an 8 hr course to become an IHSS worker (in-home support services). So yeah unless the "caregiver" has to have medical knowledge - which, in Alex's case they wouldn't - they're basically a random schmo off the street that she finds on Craigslist or a general, (infrequently updated and unvetted) list of folks who have taken the course and want to work. It's a NIGHTMARE. Honestly, I kinda feel for her on this level because the caregiver crisis is a MASSIVE issue in America, albeit one that primarily impacts the elderly.

Anyway, sorry for my sperg there - point is Noah is still her caregiver, probably will remain her caregiver, and I still think a reconciliation is imminent (and that they're still prob off and on behind the scenes). I'm also increasingly of the opinion that we'll continue to see make up-break up cycles from them, since they both seem the type. As for letting Alex sit in her own shit, he does have a track record of being so negligent with toileting that she went through a period of peeing in a cup. He's also not good at fixing her hair or doing that kind of thing, but that's obviously secondary to immediate physical needs (though I'm sure it has a huge psychological impact).

I also screwed up on Noah watch: I just looked back at the video, and he does appear (it might also be his hand with the bath bomb-- lookin back, I think it is). Ari looked bored with her mom but was super animated in the crib at the end. I realized, though, that she wasn't actually looking at the camera when she was acting so happy. Slowing down the video, I saw this in the upper right corner:



It's the upper part of Noah's profile. When she's so happy and animated, she's fully engaged with him and is ignoring her mom. Babies can't act engaged with you to spare your feelings, and I wonder how obvious it is IRL that Ari is bonded with others more than she is with Alex. I'm guessing it's pretty obvious, but Alex is also completely unable to correctly interpret Ari's moods and actions, so maybe she's shielded from it.

From what we've seen of caretakers, she's had pretty good luck with not ending up in a really bad situation. She usually seems to find people through Craigslist or social media and gravitates to people who are similar in age to her (and who are hip, young types). However, she also seems to burn bridges and fall out with caretakers.

True, her caregivers have seemed to be pretty decent, although it's possible she compensated out-of-pocket above the gov't issued pay. It's illegal to do so, but there's also absolutely no way to regulate it and it's quite common for people who want someone with a bit higher qualifications. She might not have the money to do that anymore.

Noah absolutely should NOT be her caregiver, ideally, I agree - for both of their mental well-being. Even if he was her loving, stable, non-bpd baby daddy, that's not a great dynamic - having to wipe your young girlfriend's ass regularly and indefinitely. But I will say I think he's less likely to let her sit in filth or not bathe her with the Smiths around to notice her stinking up their house.

Also, I'm gonna guess good caregivers are even harder to come by in South Florida what with the retirement community. Lots of demand and likely little supply - especially in a bougie area where rich people go to retire.

From what she's talking about in this one, it's pretty clear that the call came from the internet: all the incidents the case worker referenced were things that she's shown in her social media. Did the internet really need to call CPS? No, but you'd also think that Alex would realize that actions have consequences. Because she doesn't, though, she has a thread. So it goes. The whole video is her sitting outside and talking, so no screenshots. I'm once again mostly reading the transcript rather than listening, but her tone is flippant and annoyed throughout.

• "I had no idea that I was going to have to make this video." First, you sure should have known. Second, you don't have to make the video. You don't ever have to mention CPS again.
• DCFS showed up on "Friday"-- last Friday? Friday as in yesterday? I'm not sure, and she doesn't clarify.
• Says she was in "my room" "eating mac and cheese" when they showed up. You could not drag that information out of me, that I was eating mac and cheese in "my room" and my baby daddy's house. But I digress.
• After 15 minutes, Noah came up and got her. I guess she expressed no curiosity about the visitors to that point? Says Noah was being very serious about it, which, no shit, that's an appropriate response to CPS.
• Caseworker talked to Noah alone and then to her. Alex requests for the entire conversation to be recorded (apparently recorded it herself, I assume with her phone?).
• Caseworker said someone called the hotline and expressed concern about: Ari being unsupervised by the pool (because she can roll over and crawl) and specifically mentioned the photo of Noah throwing Ari in the air (archived here; it's fairly recent). The caller also mentioned Noah being on drugs and says that Alex is paralyzed. They also mentioned Ari riding on Alex's wheelchair.
• Alex's defense of the first is that Ari can't crawl yet and is always supervised "not just by me." Says Noah threw Ari "probably an inch in the air," which is not accurate at all, per the photo she posted herself. She first skips over the comment about Noah being on drugs and says she's not paralyzed, haters, so there! She continues to feel that Ari being on her wheelchair like a deer impaled on a car's hood is not an issue.
• Tells the social worker that the call obviously came from social media trolls (probably so) and that she has over 2 million followers between Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, which, lol no. Freely tells the social worker that they were also investigated in Chicago (facepalm). She also clarifies that the first Chicago DCFS investigation occurred when Ari was still in the NICU but continues to believe that all the calls came from trolls (which the transcript renders as "drolls").
• Says the worker tells her she doesn't see any cause for concern. Alex tells her that there's always an able-bodied adult nearby when she's holding Ari. (editor's note: Alex truly does not understand how fast a baby can move)
• The case worker again asks her about Noah throwing Ari in the air, and it kind of sounds like that the case worker is under the impression that Noah was throwing Ari in a drug-fueled rage rather than throwing her in the pool. The case worker presses the issue about Noah's drug use and asks about his drug history and whether he's ever been in rehab. Alex tastefully throws in a "blah blah blah" here, just so we know that she's taking this seriously and understands the gravity of the situation.
• She tells the worker that he's been sober since they've been in Florida, which is patently not true. She's maintained all along that he was under the influence when he sent the most recent batch of Instagram messages, and those occurred en route to Florida and when they were first back (first night, I guess?).
• Worker asks about the supervision in the house and asks if Ari is ever unattended. Alex says no, there are six adults in the house, which-- wait, there are? Mom Smith, Dad Smith, Alex, Noah, and I guess two of his siblings? I didn't even know there were two other adults there.
• DCFS interviews every person in the house.
• Worker explains that Florida procedure is to assess whether there's an immediate threat to the child's safety or if they can identify a potential future threat, and she says that she cannot see either of these issues right now. Worker "gave me some forms" and left.
• Alex's takeaway is that "it was very very disheartening and unfair that we have to go through this again because people on the internet have no lives and are bitter." She complains in this vein for almost two full minutes of a video that's only 10:13 long.
• By the end, it actually sounds like there were two separate calls? It sounds like the first one was just about Noah throwing Ari in the pool, but she says the second was "more detailed" and triggered the investigation. THEN she complains more.

In brief, yes, the internet people are over-involved, and we have seen nothing (yet) from Florida that is going to warrant CPS intervention. We've seen a lot of stupidity and carelessness, but Florida DCFS is very busy pulling children out of horrific situations of child abuse and neglect. They're not coming for babies in upper-middle-class homes, even if both parents are dumb and careless. However, Alex and Noah really are dumb, and she keeps showing stuff on social media that's going to make people nervous.

It's kind of impressive how blasé she is about all this and how little she understands the gravity of the situation. She also doesn't understand how quickly something can go very wrong with a baby, and how they really don't need to crawl to get themselves in all sorts of trouble. The poolside videos have been making me nervous, and I'm not entirely convinced that she and Ari aren't alone out there, at least sometimes. I suspect that Noah sometimes parks them out there and goes back inside to sext on Snapchat and send dick pics on Instagram. And I really doubt that he's been fully. He's also a relapse waiting to happen. Being at home doesn't keep him from bad behavior: recall that his own dad pressed charges against him for battery.

That was more editorial comment from me that was necessary, but it was extremely annoying to see how flippant she was about all of this, so hopefully you'll forgive me.

Alex apparently thinks Ari can understand verbal instructions. Ari really ignores Alex when she speaks, which is interesting and suggests how little Alex actually interacts with her.

Even Fat Amy Ramadan, whose IQ barely reached the mid-60s, got off the internet when CPS started coming around.

Every father in the US has thrown his child up like Noah did, the only iffy part about it would be if he wasn’t sober. Which he seemed fine in that video.

I have to hope the grandparents, who have raised at least one child before, understand how quickly they can go when they start to move. So far, I haven’t seen anything dangerous, only things that have potential to be problems if they don’t adjust as she grows. But most parents tend to do that.

Ari looks much better and safer where she is and I think the trolls need to think how much worse it could be if they took Ari away from what seems to be a stable if unconventional family.

But. I still think Alex needs to get offline, because once trolls interfere it doesn’t stop. I know her narc self had grand dreams of being a successful “mother with a disability” but it’s too late for that. She either needs to be completely honest and show how her daughter is actually being raised (and thus how safe she is), or figure out another niche on social media and leave Ari out. Or, maybe, try to get a real job, although with her severe mobility issues, I honestly think is impossible for her. So be an activist if she must but leave the mother part out of it.
