If someone wants to ruin their life by fucking with phil then that's their problem, I don't care. As long as phil gets trolled, I think it's funny.
This is pretty much my logic. IMO, this incident just wasn't very funny. People messing with Phil is whatever, but I don't think trolling him automatically becomes funny, otherwise we'd have a whole slew of stand up comedians who got their start by kicking $5-$10 bucks at Phil in bits or superchats just to mention Leanna's name or whatever.
I think people are disappointed less because Phil got a win and more because it's less funny when Phil is talking about something real. When it was paranoid schizo ranting, that's pretty funny because it's Phil being off his rocker and not knowing what he's talking about. I mean, sure, there are still some elements of that, but...eh, I dunno, it's sort of the reddit problem. Reddit is typically considered low quality because there's a bunch of posts on there that are just blatantly made up, but presented as reality. It's not particularly fun to read a fake post about someone who ran into Phil in the wild and totally mugged him, versus hearing DSP raving about being mugged only to reveal someone took his reusable bag.
It's sort of like when you're watching a really shitty movie, like The Room or Birdemic. A lot of the comedy comes from the fact someone was legitimately trying to make a good drama, but someone trying to purposefully make a "so bad it's good" type of movie will usually fail because it lacks that genuine attempt the original had.
Part of why the bank leaks worked and IMO were actually funny is it was just highlighting Phil's poor spending and confirming a lot of what we know. It was a huge invasion of privacy, sure, but it wasn't trying to manufacture drama. For example, if bank leak dude had stolen Phil's credit card and made a bunch of embarrassing purchases, like subbing to a bunch of gay porn sites or whatever...well, okay, that would be kinda funny, but not as funny as the reality of seeing what Phil actually wastes his money on. And we'd probably be lamenting the missed opportunity to learn about said purchases versus seeing the funny manufactured ones.
To use another extreme example, imagine how disappointing it would be to learn that all the WWE stuff was actually an elaborate troll who had thousands of dollars to light on fire. Again, I think it'd be kinda funny in the grand scheme of things, but not nearly as funny as Phil himself being so addicted that he's living paycheck to paycheck just to get new jpegs of muscled men.
Comcast dude wasn't a complete nothing burger, but it says a lot about the trolling attempt where a lot of us were having more fun *before* we knew it was a legitimate thing and not just another example of old man Phil not understanding how shit works and being paranoid. I mentioned in the main thread, I want to give Comcast dude some credit for trying to do *something*, I don't think Phil is a sacred cow that can't be touched. And I think he had a few decent ideas...it just wasn't that thought out and the actual attempts didn't work, like failing to block the sites. Even changing the network names was sorta underwhelming because we've seen stuff like that in his chat thousands of times by now.
I guess the TLDR is this just feels like a wasted opportunity. Kinda like those recent fat khet picture leaks. It's technically not a nothing burger because there was something to see, but it was such a garbage quality picture that it wasn't as funny as the original fat khet picture leak.
