This is probably offtopic by now, but it genuinely confuses me why anyone is angry about what Hbomb said about IH. Sure he prefaced it with him not really being fan of IH's or his Fans politics, but the core of that section is basically "IH, your editing and narration and all that other stuff is really good. There is a lot of value in providing that for otherwise obscure and well written articles. You did not have to steal it for your script."

Or he assumed the parts he was copying was akin to copying the listed ingredients to a recipe which can't really be plagiarized. It's half the reason cook books are as thick as they are.

People here have mentioned how he has already listed his sources in the past. He didn't follow his MO for this one. Either the guy knew what he was doing or there's gross negligence involved. Doesn't discount the fact that plagiarism was involved, whether or not that was the intent.

That said, it feels like you're approaching this with the idea that IH must have done this out of malice.

Plagiarism is basically theft. People don't steal because they're motivated by malice, they steal because they want to get something for nothing. In this case, it's possible that IH or whomever copied the article did not do their due diligence. Regardless of intent, it doesn't matter because the video was still posted on his channel and therefore the person who runs the channel is to be held responsible.

Yes, IH should have given a citation if for no other reason than to shut up people like you who didn't give a fucking shit about this until Harris made a fucking video about it.

Your assuming he wrote that part of the video. From what I understand he has a team of writers. Why would he want to take the fall for a crime he did not commit? Why would he want plagiarized writing up on his channel? Would he not want it taken down? At this time with no information we can not know if he was the culprit. You may be right but at this time we shouldn't assume.

It doesn't matter who wrote it. It came from his channel which means he is ultimately responsible for it. If you want to get really technical, YouTube is ultimately responsible for it since nobody who uses YouTube actually owns their channel. YouTube lets you use your channel, your channel doesn't belong to you.

You can assume anything you want except for the facts: 1) a video was uploaded that copied an article word for word. 2) said video did not cite its original source. 3) said video was taken down and reuploaded in a changed state.

Look I enjoy talking shit as much as the next guy, but lets cut dear Leader a break here shall we. He already said he doesn't watch xQc and I'm sure that extends to Hasan aside from when clips get sent to him for MATI.

He probably doesn't know that xQc "reacts" to a video he often has segments where "Mr. Chair" reacts, which for the unknowing is when Felix gets up and leaves the stream, for any amount of time (could be 30 seconds, could be 30 minutes) and during that time his empty chair reacts.

He further probably doesn't know that xQc skips over sponsors in those videos, or that xQc uploads identical thumbnails to the original work with his face plastered over it to leech on the youtube algorithms, and I'm sure he also ddoesn't know that xQc at the ends of these reactions turns the video off without the original creator even getting to ask people to check out their channel and most certainly never directs his audience to that channel.

And this is not to say what Null said is inconsistent. After reading this shit for like 30 pages, and poking fun at everyone, I have to say the issue some people are having here is understanding where Null is coming from.

Null's argument about IH is that what he did was dishonest. Independent of legality, Independent of technicality, Independent of making things right eventually. At the crux of the situation, Internet Historian plagiarized an article either by intention or neglect and as far as we know has never done anything to pay back the author for this mistake other than change his own video quietly.

Now you can argue that IH is not required legally to do anything else and you're right. You can have my point of view that ethically IH isn't required to do anything because the article wasn't going to get any more traction, but that isn't what Null is arguing.

Null is simply pointing out that stealing either by neglect for what you're doing or by intention is wrong and he isn't wrong in that assessment. Some of his examples of defense are bad, but hey, if you don't know, you don't know.

Null is correct from an ethical stand point. Everyone else is right from a legal standpoint. Individually its up to everyone to decide what weight they put on ethics versus legality, versus how they feel about the situation.

If you just want to read about the facts, just go to the wiki page. Weeving those facts into a story is entirely different, and no two retellings are going to be the same outside of those facts...unless you stole it.

If you couldn't sense the sarcasm in these segments you might be unfixably media illiterate. No, your hate for whatever about Hbomb does not excuse this stupidity.

My thoughts is that this whole video is essentially part-hitpiece, with the addition of "safe"/"decoy" targets (Illuminati, James Somerton, and the like) to "butter up" the hit against his "main" target (Internet Historian).

Internet Historian's "plagiarism" stuff was resolved months ago, and I'm 100% certain that the reason Hbomberguy is bringing him up now is because he's mad about Internet Historian's political opinions or continued friendship with JonTron or whatever, and is just using the plagiarism stuff so he doesn't look pathetically petty about screeching that a big YouTuber is a "chud".

This is just paranoia. The first half served as exhaustive examples of the different ways people go about plagiarism. Filip was the example of going about it in the most single-digit IQ way possible. Illumishitty was about someone doing it in the laziest possible way. IH was an example of someone doing everything they could to hide it.
For IH he was exceedingly lenient. Sure he took potshots at the politics orbiting the channel, but the focus was how far IH went to hide the fact he stole the script for his video. He then went on the express disappointment in how all the effort in the visuals and narration was wasted on theft. Harry gave a lot of praise throughout the segment for the clear effort that went into everything but the script. I think this was a very tasteful way of going about it, and he gave IH the benefit of the doubt that he hasn't done this before or since.

The fact that you see this as some coordinated attack shows you did not watch the video. In the latter half of the video, entirely focused on James, Harry gets legitimately upset and angry with Somerton about his rampant, widespread theft and queer erasure. The only way you could argue that IH was the real target of the video is if you are that much of snowflake about your politics getting mildly made fun of. Grow up.

I think most people will agree plagurism is bad, the only thing is most people really don't care because it's not something he's done multiple times and it's been resolved already for awhile so there is not much reason to care.
Plagurism is also not that huge of a deal compared to the other shit YouTubers and streamers get up to.

Explain more. I unfollowed him a little while ago. It amused me when Harris congratulates Derek from Stop Skeletons From Fighting for being "true to himself and make content he finds interesting" I'm paraphrasing but he did congratulate him along with a bunch of other people in his echo chamber... When Derek has been making clickbait content for the last few years. Pretty much every single video on his channel is clickbait along the lines of "Something something Resident Evil and Doom weird ports! More Dreamcast and Gamecube weird peripherals!" And etcetera.
