Warhammer: 40,000 - Rogue Trader - CRPG by Owlcat games

Jae's footfall act 4 quest is a buggy mess, just like her act 2 one.

Space wolf deals massive bolter damage, easily 200 per volley. Wish he could equip melee weapons one handed for two handed like Techpriest.

Having played a bit of it, I can say this is the most fun I've had playing a video game in fucking forever. Even better I actually feel like this is a role play in the 41st millenia and not the 21st century with a 41st century veneer like so many other RPGs these days. Even the Jank isn't a turn off, just a minor annoyance.

I'm amazed you're doing her quests and didn't immediately sideline her.

Yeah act 3 is buggy. Had to toybox it as you have to know not to give the trophies to the NPC that is involved in recruiting the wolf. You need to wait and use it for the wolf. Nobody tells yoi this.

This is a big downside of Owlcat games, even for basic shit like a companion you need to know the super secret 10 step handshake by guessing right. BG3 does not pull that shit on me.

Same with romances. Your dashing dogmatic commissar has to act like a real gentlemen. Do you kiss the Navigator's hand or hold it? Do you compliment her painting skills or remark how well decorated her scarf is? Sure Larian's "Wanna see my cock magic" would not fit the setting, but gove me a clear gentleman approach.

Another issue is that the wolf only has a dinky knife. I wish he could get a chainsword at least.

While he isn't as tanky as he should be, at least I found that he can reliably bolter anything to death, and alongside Elf sniper he is the best damage dealer, able to deal around 150 or more damage with each bolter volley.
Those qualities is actually why I prefer Owlcat games. In baldurs gate 3 you can always predict results, and this makes dialogue have no tension.

Meanwhile in Rogue Trader I'm getting a broadcast from a forge world, and I know I probably shouldn't recieve it, but then I might miss something important if I ignore it, so I accept it, and all he'll breaks loose. The ship gets possessed and half the tech priests, servitors, and vox casters start tearing themselves and others apart as I have to pass a dozen skill checks to minimise casualties.
All because I couldn't just do the sensible thing and ignore.

Also Cassia literally gives you a book that tells you how to court noble ladies. She's guiding you in with landing lights and all.

I mean those choices seem cool until you reload and realise that all the choices will always end up having the same consequences.

Don't recieve the message. Too bad they ddos you and make you recieve it anyway and the exact same situation happens

Cassias romance as long as you follow the one hint she gives you and just dont press the retard option where you ask for seggs then they all end up in the same result

Romances in Owlcat games have multiple paths. You can totally piss off Cassia by pushing too hard and have her come to hate you (there's literally a variable called 'CassiaHate'). Likewise, companions in general have two to three different paths you can nudge them towards in conversations and their personal quests. Unfortunately, companions don't seem to be as reactive to those different paths as they were in Wrath of the Righteous but they're still there.

Ah so in general it doesn't matter if you hold hands or kiss thr hand, just don't go "Lets have a romp in the hay Cassichu. Mhhhyeah"

I recall the wrath's succubus was extra picky so I was worried.

I am so.ewhat underwhelmed by the dark elf. He is okey, but Abelard and Heinrix does melee at that level too, the Wolf seems to be the only powerhouse in combat. Neither are great at skillchecks.

Cassichu sounds incredibly cursed and I would ask you to desist with this heresy

He is a good contender for the strongest character in the game actually, you can solo most of the encounters with him. Mostly because of the insanely good Drukhari equipment that only he can use.

I think I'll pick this up and start playing tonight. The Imperium of Man is alot less tyrannical and fascist than the Biden administration. Be a nice break from reality.

I've pirated the game.
I've never played space nazi and racist elf game is the tabletop really this freaky?

Like seriously, a d100? wtf.
Also I have picked up how OP Officer still is already and everyone is an officer now.
Still pissed about no powerfist/thunderclaw/actual iron arm to emulate ferrus manus with, but whatever. dual wielding force swords is probably a good enough replacement.

Still wish it was RTWP, at least because there's literally no RTWP games anymore.

D100 systems are the most commonly used systems outside of DND I believe; since they allow a much wider degree of rolls plus you can gauge everything in 10's for success/failure. In regards to the TTRPG I think the TTK is pretty accurate to the 40k RPGs but im happy for the nerds who actually have played them to chip in.

I believe mentioned earlier is the biggest departure from the tabletop is how levelling up is handled.

Fuck me its annoying how every character bought with you has their entire inventory cleared so you have to painstakingly go through and re-equip all their loadouts AGAIN once you get your shit back

Also if anyone wants a good meme there is an assassain skill called "Keep your distance" that forces every adjacent enemy to make an athletcs check or fall over. This includes when you walk next to enemies so you can walk inside a group of enemies and watch instantly half of them fall over lmao

Gotta say, the space combat can be downright ball busting. Go from ez mode blow up a couple of pirate frigs in one system, then the next system is like nah, here's a chaos cruiser and 2 frigs spamming torps and fighters. Oh, enjoy the fires every turn.

Apparently you can accidentally summon a daemon the second you cast a spell too.
As if I need further proof my luck is insanely bad.

Ship combat has poorly outlined progression but it's fun when you get some decent equipment and officer abilities.

Until Act 5 that is.
Enemy ships in Act 5 are so absurdly overpowered that even with a maxed out ship doing anything other than spamming torpedoes while running away is suicide.

So I finished the game. Act 5 is pretty damn buggy, the Space Wolf's quest just doesn't trigger and I had to use toybox to skip to the final map in it, which took several attempts. Also the reasons for why you're there don't make a lot of sense and it feels like I'm playing tabletop and the DM is railroading the party without even trying to explain why.

The head inquisitor sends you to go kill Chaos marines in chapter 4 because you're the only one in the expanse than can effectively handle it. The only dialog option is to refuse him and then he pulls rank and forces you to go anyway when I wanted to just agree to go in the first place. Once you return his office is empty and his servant refuses to tell you anything, the dialog forces you to keep asking him though until he stabs you. Then you're forced to threaten him until he says, "oh okay he went here, he is probably up to evil, you better not follow him BOY". Since there's nothing else to do you go follow him through a portal into act 5. At the very end for no reason at all Heinrix, despite being incredibly loyal to the inquisition throughout the game says something like, "man I don't trust this guy I've been reporting all your secrets to, I can't wait to find out his need to know secret imperial mission". Definitely slapped together in a rush. I'll probably return to the game but not for a few months at least.
