Isn't there parenting classes or nurses that can help if you struggle in the US?

In my country there is a program where you have a nurse come visit once a week during pregnancy and up to 6months and then every other week or so up til the baby is 2.
This is open for everyone who might have problem w mental illness, drug/alcohol abuse or a rocky relationship. Its not a nurse who come to you to check you to snitch but to help you navigate being a parent w extra difficiulties.
I realize they probably dont have THAT program but w Alex and Noah being the kinda people they are they should get every resource needed but i never hEARD HER (OR Noah) mention any classes or extra visits to a nurse focusing soley on their parenting role.
I guess there, like here, its not mandatory but for them it should be heavily suggested.

Alex is such a a great cow to me precisely because if you'd never encountered her and just heard the outline of her life story, your first instinct is deep pity.

Profoundly disabled woman (with probably less than a decade to live) gets knocked up by druggie BPD dude who openly states he can only fuck her while drunk, and then gets to navigate having a baby and dealing with him and his family because she cannot do things for herself or the baby, all while maintaining what independence she can.

Fuckin sad story.

Until she opens her mouth.

Her level of narcissism and entitlement poisons every ounce of empathy I would have for her. She's such a great example of why we shouldn't put disabled people on pedestals as heroes. Everything she has overcome is far outweighed by her inability to hold gratitude.

She's said that her adult weight has ranged from 30-something pounds (she looked extremely ill then) to 60-something pounds. I'm not sure we have a current weight, but she's extremely small.

She blamed Reddit when she lost the Boppy sponsorship, but she'd also just posted that the pillow could also be used for sex positioning. The pillow company may simply have preferred that their nursing pillow not be associated with that.

There's not really anything like what you describe in the US, at least to my knowledge. The best we can hope for with Alex and Noah is that they were forced to take a parenting class when they got reported to social services. That's more on the level of "please don't shake the baby," though.

This is all she's posted so far today. It looks like she's FaceTiming or something and not actually in the apartment? That's the Smith's house that you see behind her. I've been looking at apartments in and near Weston, and they're all very expensive.



Small note: her mother moved to Florida to live with her at one point in the past. It was Alex, her mom, a caretaker, and a random roommate. It ended badly, as I'm sure you can imagine. There's really no telling what's going on right now.

The only services in my area like that are for poor parents under 23 (through a troubled youth center), college students who are pregnant/with babies (through the university, which both offer education and limited free daycare. And there's specifically a free lactation consult service for women struggling to breastfeed, La Leche League I think. There's a few places that give out free baby products to people in need and connections to social workers (which would be usually something like 45min once a week) but not really any non-mandatory education.

And the mandatory parenting education is like the scary day in Driver's Ed where they tell you about the horrors of drunk driving, it's more a punishment than an actual class. It's very much "you now can't say you DIDN'T know your baby needed a carseat, we forced you to listen about it."

It is kinda an underserved population.

Absolutely no idea. She does earn money from social media, but it can't be too much without putting her SSI in danger. She doesn't have any sponsorships and hasn't in quite some time. She and Noah got the Chicago apartment shortly after she announced she was pregnant, so I've assumed they either footed the bill or heavily subsidized the rent. Alex's own family doesn't have a lot of money and, by all accounts, they live in a dump.

It's pretty clear the Noah's parents are paying for it. Maybe Alex is detestable enough to cloister away in the city high-rise.

I bet Ari spends at least as much time with the grandparents after this. That may have been part of the deal to pay for their apartment in the first place. Make Ari available and we'll pay to keep you at arms length kind of thing.

I'd say maybe Alex left Ari in their care in exchange for the living arrangement but let's be serious. Alex's massive deformed hideous ego will never allow her to make decisions that place Ari's well being first.

She was also probably threatening to move back to Chicagostan without Noah as an implicit threat and way to wield the small amount of agency she's able to wring from the threat of endangering her child's welfare.

I guess that didn’t occur to me off the bat not because I think highly of Alex, but because it’s just one of those things like getting up and going to work and so on and so forth. Honestly, she really doesn't.

Intellectually impaired people can, at the very least, be trained to chase a broom around. Alex has an extremely limited ability to type, and she can't even speak clearly, so even home based call centre work is beyond her. The closest she could ever get to any form of work would probably need the same kind of software and hardware that Stephen Hawking used to turn eye movements into speech. There is a man called Paul Alexander, a polio survivor who lives in an iron lung and is a qualified and practising lawyer, and that French journalist who wrote The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, so it's theoretical that Alex could find something to do, but not only is she not very smart, she doesn't want to. What she wants is to drink, be on social media and get laid. She's spent her entire life being told that she's going to die in six months time, and I can certainly understand why she'd embrace hedonism instead of trying to make the most of her extremely limited capacity.

I've said it before, but even though Alex is a npd nightmare parasite, I would still feel very sorry for her... if she hadn't dragged Ari into her sad life.
