Biggest bullshit in a video game

I feel like I probably mentioned this before, but I'll do it again anyway. The dogding lightning 100 times in a row to get Lulu's ultimate weapon in FFX was complete BS. So much so that A) I didn't bother and B) if I'm not mistaken, there's a way you can actually craft weapons and other items for characters making it completely unnecessary to even do the above sidequest. Granted this method requires a bit of grinding in the monster arena, but that's far less annoying.

Lulu is one of the people that can get away with a modded weapon. Magic Booster, One MP Cost, Break Damage Limit, and you still have a free slot. If you're going full minmax she isn't even in the main team though; that's saved for Tidus/Wakka/Rikku.

My main team was Tidus, Yuna and Rikku. I made Yuna so strong she and her summons did max damage. And no, this didn't actually make the final boss fight hard since my characters were simply too fast.

I remember it especially in Lies of P, but it's in a lot of Souls-like - An enemy attack damage should be relative to its wind up time. An enemy waving its hand in front of me at least shouldn't removeba third of my health.
I'm largely fine with that but it annoys me when the type of attack and the damage inflicted doesn't seem to match up. Tree Sentinels horse bump shouldn't wreck my shit. If it sent me tumbling back as a set up for another attack it would be fine.
 
When a game gives you an overpowered weapon/power/item/whatever after completing 100% of the game. I don't know exactly what games do this but the first time it happened to me was Spyro 2, after you get all the orbs and gems you unlock a permanent flame a powerup that was only time limited in some levels, allowing you to beat any enemy and boss with ease.

But now what? You've already conquered the game, beaten every boss, collected every collectable, achieved every achievement. You've beaten every bullshit fishing minigame, gotten past the dumbass glitchy gimmick levels, maxed your stats as high as they can go. And only now , when no challenges are left, no dungeons left unexplored, no puzzle left unsolved, do you become unstoppable.

I don't even know if this should even be called bullshit, maybe it's just me, but it feels worthless. Getting overpowered items form hard bosses felt like more of an achievement because they helped you afterwards to fight even stronger enemies, but now? There's nothing left. You've already proven you don't need it, what's the use of getting the strongest weapon when there's nobody left to use it against?

That's why stuff like New Game+ with Hard mode are good. Unlock everything and then go back through with an edge you otherwise wouldn't have. Chrono Trigger got this half right but needed a hard mode badly.
 
This one may be disagreeable but I’ve been playing a lot of Max Payne lately. It’s been an absolute masterpiece aside from a section they keep bringing back which is the bloody hallway sequence. I don’t know how it plays on PC but when you play it on the Xbox it’s like trying to balance something an a piece of string and the only way you can fix it is with some chopsticks. I still have not beaten the game because I can’t finish the last (or I’m hoping the last) sequence.

Kinda bad, but if you're good at jumping and discerning where sound comes from, you can finish it without much trouble. Takes a few tries. I don't like that area, but it's manageable if you are patient.

The last time I played MP was on a tablet and thankfully that version lets you skip those sequences.
 
There's one Riddler trophy in Arkham Asylum that you can miss and have to start the game and the trophy hunt all over again if you aren't prepared. It appears during a timed mission too. Because you need all the trophies to catch Riddler, missing just one trophy is as bad as missing all of them.
 
For the first time ever, I've decided to dick around with Rune Words in Diablo 2. Turns out there's a very good reason I've never bothered with them when I was younger, because the mechanics are grade-A bullshit.

So the idea behind it that if you insert a certain combination of runes into an item, you get special bonuses beyond the listed values on the individual runes, some of which are highly sought after such as the Enigma Rune Word, which allows any character to cast Teleport. Okay, so I just get a socketed item, throw the correct runes in, and I should be good to go, right?

WRONG!

Here is a full list of requirements you need to create a Rune Word:
  • You need to put the runes in a SPECIFIC order. Did you socket Ort before Tal? You get nothing.
  • The item needs an EXACT amount of sockets as the Rune Word. No more, no less.
  • The item must not be enchanted. Found a magic item with a property that adds sockets? That simply won't do.
  • The item needs to be of the right type. Try to use a Rune Word for axes on a mace, or Rune Word for shields on body armor? Too bad.
Essentially, the stars and planets need to fucking align in order to take advantage of an integral mechanic of the expansion. If you fuck up at any point, you just wasted hours of grinding and some incredibly rare items, because for those who don't know: sockets can never be undone.

And to top it all off, NONE of this is explained in the game in the slightest. The best you get is a late-game quest reward where the guy hands you Ort, Tal, and Ral runes, and says he was gonna put it in a shield, but it doesn't explain any of the specifics behind how you're supposed to do it. It is literally impossible without outside information.

This is why I have no problem if someone spoils to get information like this when unless you're an idiot, you're not going to grind hours and hours to find out hidden mechanics that are ludicrously complex. I mean I don't in general, it's a single person game and if you cheese it it affects nobody but you, but in some cases I think it's wimpy.

Bullshit mechanics like this deserve no respect or in-game effort to learn.
