PSN may be old but it's really not as robust or large as people think it is. Backwards compatibility is laughable, PS3 and PS4 online titles won't even register PSN username changes for example. Current PSN works with less than 20 games (insert PS5 joke here). The only reason it even exists is because Xbox Live used to be a massive money-maker and Sony needed some equivalent; nowadays the idea of paying to use your own internet on a console is rightfully lauded as retarded. PSN is such a low priority that a really successful Sony-published title like Helldivers 2 could simply exist for months without using it.Sony didn’t choose #3 out of the kindness of their hearts, they did it because their bean counters and legal team most likely threw a massive shitfit the moment they learned more about this retardation. I bet in the future they will have 100% mandatory integration and simply not sell games in markets with no PSN.
tl;dr I would be surprised if PSN is anything other than a Gamer Facebook by the time the PS6 rolls around.
