I did some digging and I don't think it was ketamine nick was found with.

Ketamine has a very low oral bioavailability so you would need to take roughly twice the amount as snorting and four times the amount as injecting so the pills would be gigantic and expensive.

Ketamine is a PCP derivative and the most common reagent field tests(marquise and Lieberman are the two most drug detectives carry) cannot differentiate ketamine vs other PCP derivatives and Certain designer drugs/"research chemicals".

Nick's simply skilled (or was) at leading people to believe he's "fundamentally a good person." One of the most fundamental things about being a good person is valuing the welfare of children and animals. He's allegedly failed on the first one and he's bragged about failing on the second one.

He wears "good person" as a costume or a fashion statement... until it makes him uncomfortable or interferes with his good times. Then it's "WHY WON'T YOU DIE, JIM?" and "YOU SHOULD KILL YOURSELF, JOHN!" and "PROTESTANTS ARE BACKWARDS, BROKEN PEOPLE!"
