Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Microsoft ruined their golden goose, Halo, and they drove away the audience who made their brand great.

Sony spent somewhere between $100-400 million on Concord, only for it all to burn down.

Nintendo is suing Pocketpair for Palworld.

Is there a big video game company NOT run by abject cunts?

Demolition Derby and the superior Demolition Racer (on the DC) should make a come back.
Wreckfest is good.

If it weren't for Windows threatening to cut off support for 10, I wouldn't upgrade.
I'm seriously thinking of either hanging on to 10 as long as possible, or switching to linux.

The problem is not games it's devs. They don't properly optimize their games because higher "fidelity" = good.
Huge asterisk there. I see people complain because they weren't getting sub-5-second load times on a PC with a HDD while playing Starfield, or that they aren't getting 144fps 4k Ultra in Eldan Ring on a 8 year old laptop, and then blame it on "lazy devs". Some devs are lazy, but often it's the gamers that are the problem.

Nintendo suing you for even suggesting you might be thinking about ripping off their mascots is just another day for them and should be expected. Throwing $100m in the garbage as a giant fuck you to your player base is really a new one, though.

Somewhere between $200-400m. I suppose Sony takes the cake, followed by Microsoft ruining their golden goose and chasing out their demographic to appeal to a nonexistent "broader fanbase" that doesn't want them.

After the whole radahn debacle, fromsoft should just put in a easy mode for players who simply can't progress in sufficient enough time.
After watching comparisons between Dark Souls 3's final boss vs Radahn it's clear that Fromsoft have put themselves in a bind. In chasing the hardcore demographic they've continually made games harder and harder, and instead of doing so in a smart way they've increased the bullshit and stacked the odds in the boss' favour. They get to teleport around, do sick anime flips and attack endlessly while you still move like the same fat retard you did in DS1, minus the addition of a jump button.
There has to be more than Fallout and ME.

Is Dark souls a dudebro RPG? It's not much of an RPG any more like ME is more shooter than RPG.
I'd argue that Fromsoft games have taken the place of CoD in the larger gamer zeitgeist. The hype I saw for Elden Ring was on par with Black Ops and shit back in the day, if not surpassing it.

Fuck, if you need more proof look at how many "soulslikes" there are now. Every fucking game is either a soulslike or has soulslike elements. It's an extremely over saturated genre and I'm sick of it.

I'm not sure if it's really unpopular so much as it's just an opinion, but Unicorn Overlord is my personal GOTY 2024 and it'd probably be that even if this year had better releases. It's an excellent game with the only issue being that the hardest difficult is where the normal difficulty probably should be.

My GTX 970 is still going strong. Chads who don't exceed 1080p can stretch an older card for ages.
I'm OCD about temps, so I had to retire my 970 in favor of a 2070 Super because I was worried Doom Eternal would make my computer get too hot. 970 was a great card, I'm just paranoid.
Even @WelperHelper99 doesn't have much money and managed to save up for a PC faster than 7 or 8 years or whatever you think is normal.
I managed to save up enough for my first gaming PC when I was a teenager. Took a few years because I wanted a system that could run Witcher 2 on high. Had it not been for Witcher 2, my first build would have been under 1000 dollars.
That sounds like a challenge.
Not really unless you aim for Cyberpunk 2077 on ultra at 4K or something stupid like that. Most good games on PC run on almost any system that's come out in the past decade. You need a super potato to be unable to play anything made after the 7th console generation.

The laptop I had in high school could run Skyrim on medium at 30 FPS with mods. This was in 2012. It wasn't even mid-range.

Modern Chinese Handhelds are better than most gaming systems ever made by the big three (Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo).

I'm genuinely hyped for the Retroid Pocket 5, really hope this thing delivers on all it's promises.

PC is run by Microsoft, Steam, Origin, Epic, and Apple. They're no better.
Then learn how to pirate everything. GOG's big selling point is that everything they sell is DRM-free, so if you don't wanna buy games from them, their installers are floating around all over.

Piracy is what has shaped PC gaming into what it is today, in that they have to compete with pirates that just give everything away for free. So, features like multiplayer, cloud saving, extensive controller support, and giveaways of older games are the norm in getting customers to stick with their platforms. You don't have to be one company's bitch. You can pick and choose. You can play pirated games and emulators forever, and you'll never run out of games that are new to you.

If that doesn't satisfy you, maybe you should find a new hobby altogether. Woodworking is a lot of fun.

Basically. The dipshittery of modern game companies has made heroes out of pirates.

Given that Valve sidelined the white male Gordon Freeman for ugly mystery meat women in Half-Life and Portal, the whole industry is pozzed. At some point, expect a purge of "problematic" games from Steam.
I'm already expecting it. Just like Microsoft, Steam doesn't realize what demographic made them great in the first place.
