Youtube General thread (formerly Youtube Censorship discussion thread)

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
This might sound retarded but does "side loading" mean you download the app from a webpage and install it like a .exe on a pc? If so I've been side loading things for awhile and had no idea it had a name besides "installing something".
That's exactly what it means, only Android uses a package file with an .APK extension rather than an .EXE. The term "sideloading" has been around since the earliest days of Android, so it tends to be Android oldfags that use that term.

Ads while pausing videos? How crapped up and ad-filled can the "user experience" of YT get?
Without blocking ads, the sky is the limit. I hate to be cliche, but that black mirror episodes with the black lad who is forced to watch ads, cannot even close his eyes, thats the future they want. In fact, "content" should be removed entirely, just a never ending stream of adverts beamed into your brain.

People who do nothing about adverts should be mocked, for they are niggercattle and exist to be punished.

ReVanced is excellent, but it isn't the only way. I've been using GrayJay for a while now, and it's the best third party Android YT app I've used.
Good point, I have been meaning to give GrayJay a try so I can be happy enough to recommend it to others.

And yet they say brain chips are a good idea.

They still haven't woken up that whatever the future has in store for us, it ain't going to be the fucking Jetsons

Also to note is that Advertisements also consume a lot of data making people with data plans run out of data real easily.

For those wondering if ads are being placed on videos when paused. It's not fiction anymore, well, on TV at least.

If this doesn't scream Late Stage Capitalism, I don't know what is at this point. Reminds me of this scene from Idiocracy where AD's are placed surrounding the show.

Advertisements are baffling, there’s no way they’re actually effective. It has to be a giant money sink or tax write off thing.
It's nothing to do with money. It's about social manipulation. Hence why 99% of advertisements are niggers with White women, promoting faggotry, pushing for electric vehicles, or streaming services that make no money. It's just conditioning the masses. During COVID lockdowns almost every single advertisement during live sports was for vaccines or boosters.
Having adblocks is becoming a political statement. Not sure if I should be impressed or depressed.
Adblocking is better for your mental health than experiencing a single second of advertising.

I really don't like ads being pushed on me. I even dislike seeing corporate logos on everything.

I like how before "intellectual property" was a thing, stuff was just stuff and not brand name stuff. A hammer was just a hammer, not a STANLEY hammer. Salt was just salt, not MORTON salt. A pencil was just a pencil, not a DIXON TICONDEROGA pencil.
(Even if there's the concept of brands before industrialization, it wasn't as common as after.)

Late but I didn't see it upthread: Google Podcasts was shut down about three weeks ago (30 August 2024) in the US and about 3 months ago (24 June 2024) everywhere else.

How is this relevant to a thread about Youtube you ask? Because if you try downloading google podcasts now you get the 'helpful' suggestion to install the ad- and tracker- laden Youtube Music app instead. One more way they're getting rid of alternatives to becoming niggercattle.

Saw the CH thread and checked my own playlists, large swathes have been obliterated
I can pirate and stuff, but YT Music has a great recommendation algorithm
This is a kick in the dick I didn’t ask for
I think there is a good chance things will be back to how they were before in a short amount of time but this really is a moment that shows how fragile Youtube's music library is. All it takes is a couple big companies not playing ball and thousands of albums worth of songs become inaccessible in an instant.
