It's not even useful then. None of it's official. They'd still have to be nominated and confirmed. It exists only as a seething cope for the democrats and a desperate attempt to blunt the country throwing them out into the political wilderness en mass.

So every time Trump does anything for the next 4 years, these "shadow cabinet" types can run around going "I'm the AKSHUAL cabinet position in exile, and here's why you should be upset / vote against doing it / impeach him for it." Both in the ears of their faggy cohorts in congress and in the media to the American people.

To expand, because I asked around a bit. The idea being pushed is that Harris only lost because she failed to expound on the policy and really tell people she had them. This is cope but.... not entirely wrong. I would say it misses the forest for the trees in not realizing that Harris never mentioned policy largely because the internal schisms of the party means no policy is acceptable. Still, understanding this idea make sit easy to understand that the idea of this "Shadow Cabinet" is to take whatever cabinet members of Trump's administration do and to present to the public on the news circuit the "Democrat Alternative" to Republicans. Think less "No they cannot" and more "This is what we would do instead.

Again, I am fine with this... in theory. But what the Democrat's expect from this and the realty are going to be two separate things. First, I expect it to be torn apart from inside as soon as a policy decision comes up that has any sort of internal disagreement. Second, its lack of actual power will leave many involved hungry for more and this would more or less shut it down as soon as someone tries. Third, one of the offshoot hopes is that this helps springboard some new blood into the ranks and give them prominence... which is absolutely going to fail. And Fourth and Final is that this is a minority pushing it rather vocally and it has a lot of pushback for the above reasons.

So basically it exists to make them look like fools. The donor class is already pissed at giving so much money on something they promised to be a sure thing. They donated to the Biden - Harris campaign so when he dropped out last minute they wanted someone other then Harris in charge, only to be ignored because the Democrats didn't want to pay them back. Then they were effectively coerced into paying a lot more for the Harris campaign because they were repeatedly assured it was a close race only for it to not be. This shadow cabinet has no clear income support so they will have to be relying on donations - donations that will be drying up as they pissed off the money.

And they have two choices to proceed. The first is to bitch and moan about everything Trump does, which is already getting old and people are tuning out. The other is to have defined and concrete policy plans and law drafts that they claim is better then the elected administrations, but that will fail due to infighting and it turning out that nobody agrees with anything they come out.

I expect that almost everybody that joins this shadow cabinet may find themselves blackballed by the people and will never be elected to another position except in the bluest counties.

This seems to me to be a lazy reuse of the term "Shadow Cabinet" to mean almost none of what it actually means as a shorthand for "Group that espouses our side of the aisle". it is doomed to fail and terribly thought out, but not actually malicious.

Actually, come to think of it, this would match up with the feelings occasionally expressed when I was still in the DailyKOS/et all bubble back in the day. In 2010, 2012, the stance was that the right only won in the midterms and what seats they did because a bunch of ignorant dirt farmers -- this was before "straight white male" became the de facto new devil of the progressive neo-left -- were tricked into voting against their own interests. This was blamed on a lot of things, including Fox News being allowed to speak, bigotry (racism or homophobia, mostly, as Trans people didn't exist as a political power back then) making them overrule their natural tendencies to vote left like all intelligent well meaning people, and a general failure of the left to communicate their obviously so superior ideas that no one could ever disagree with if they actually were properly understood.

This all occurred in a vague fog -- at no point were the concerns of right voters considered, they had no theory of mind of the right even then, and the idea of the right as a voting block existed in some ethereal "other place" that was vastly smaller than the left (obviously) and of no import. "Flyover country," for example. The consensus was that the right simply didn't know they already agreed with the left on everything, they were just tricked or stupid, and anyway this was a tiny part of the US that will die out soon and be replaced by brown people, who OBVIOUSLY will vote lefty like all brown people do.

Then about a year, maybe two later, GamerGate happened, and the cheap tin plating of respectability was scraped off the left on those sites and what was underneath was glossy black and squirming. I don't know if the radicalization was already inbound and this just made it very clear, or if being told to fuck off by one of their pet demographics -- young, tech savvy men -- helped cause it. Trump was 2 years after that, and, well. We all saw what happened then.

I imagine the right completely routing the left this year -- even taking away their vaunted "popular vote" cope -- is having a similar effect on them now. The comment sections over there must be absolutely insane when the mask slipping every so often.

With that in mind, them deciding they just need to message harder and surely then the rest of the country will understand why chopping little timmy's dick off because his kindergarten teacher thinks his soul is in the wrong body (and arresting his father for hate speech if he objects) is more important than the fact that food prices have doubled and no one can afford a house makes perfect sense.

They have learned nothing from 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016. I seriously doubt they'll learn anything from 2024.

So there was an "auction" but it was a secret auction, the judge refused to allow bids over a certain amount, and then gave it to the Onion even though it was less than the high bid because the high bid was one of Jones' allies, or somesuch.
