In Ye Olden Dayes of Teh Interwebbes, people who were pissed off enough at a forum owner would just go off and make their own, with blackjack and hookers. But of course, this is a special place, and most of us are not hormonal teen girls and chainsmoking wine moms trying to create the best forum ever to discuss the latest Chicago Hope episodes and ship our favorite characters. Ah, those were simpler times.

If only more people were a little simpler like that, we'd have a lot less issues.

honestly? this new page is a good compromise

I still disagree with Null's stance on ratings in general but this is a very good compromise imo. You still get to see the ratings when they happen, but it encourages going back to a thread to see what's happening when they pop up. It's a win-win imo if we're not going to have the old system back.

thank u nool for not being dumb about the ratings page

Ackshually he said "there will be no sticker notifications". Which is fine, especially since notifications are a massive table that slows down site recovery. Hopefully their sacrifice appeases his bloodlust. But the reactions themselves are a core way to interact with posts, going back to Web 1.0 forums and evolving into every single website now. Nuking them will kill the enjoyment of the site and drop the quality of posts.

If Sneedforo has robust site navigation, personal feeds, and history tracking, then maybe things like the Reactions Received page become unnecessary. But just getting "watched threads page that works" isn't going to cut it.
Reactions came about like 15 years ago, on fucking Facebook of all places, web 1.0 my ass.

If not getting sticker notifications ends the forum it did not deserve to exist.

What about Watched Threads notifications, can we have a forum without those? Because the now-absent sticker notifications were compensating for the obnoxious, inaccurate Watch Threads notifications, which can't be turned off.

I know Xenforo sucks, Sneedforo panacea, etc but opting out of those would probably get people to use the feature more. It'll become closer to the feed/interesting threads/bookmarks features they want.

Making the site slightly less usable out of spite sounds like something Elon would do. That said, people caring about their overall reaction score is uber gay and whoever wrote that script should be ashamed.

Maybe show the notifications but have them expire in two weeks or something, so people can't farm them.

I use watched threads without issue. Can you PLEASE, FUCKING EXPLAIN TO ME how getting "X replied to Y" is less intrusive than "X reacted to Z in Y" ten times in a fucking row?????

I feel like this is an entirely selfish thing. You don't care if the thread is progressing, you don't care if that discussion is moving forward, if there's new content, you care only if your fucking post has eyes on it. Is this the reality of human psychology? I want to make a forum that has more content and more real discussion but the actual users just want "BING BING WAHOO!!! FIVE WINNERS!!!"

NOBODY should be using that FUCKING PAGE to track shit!!! It's not less usable, it's less usable to a particular aggravating demographic that literally only explores the fucking site through STICKER NOTIFICATIONS!!!

Please for the love of fucking god take a second to understand how ABSURD IT IS

It's like if there's a fucking homeless encampment under a bridge and the government clears them out. Good ol' government making the bridge less usable!

People used sticker notifications for basic site navigation? I always iust go to my post history to quickly navigate places I'm active in. Am I retarded?
No, you're using the services that are actually there for navigation, as the coders intended.
How many threads are you active in? If it's under 10, you're fine. Over 10, post history/watched starts to fail badly.
Honestly no. I watch a decent selection that's over ten threads (even if I lurk more than post on a decent slew), and besides occasional ghost pings that do not go away on alerts without clicking on it, I've used watched threads just fine. It works pretty much as intended.

Reactions again, is mostly useful if you like to check e-peen or to sometimes quickly go back to a specific section you responded to if the highlights miss it. Even then, it's usually more for e-peen or to laugh at revenge rates in my experience, since you can use the search function for even more accurate pinpointing. Highlights is a bit fucky, but does the job decently for the "best hits" of a long thread.

I see we've circled back to "do what I say or you'll lose everything - stickers or it's OVER for you, MOON". Don't threaten me with a good time.
do what i say or i'll shit my pants and do nothing

but i'll be really loud about it

But even then you can just go view your posts in your post history to see what reactions you garnered, and it will jump you right to where you left off in the thread. I don't get what the point of the sticker notification feature would be.

Or if I want to find a thread get this: I use the 'search' feature! Woah... searching for the thread you want! What a novel concept right?

Sure, it's like boomers navigating the internet by entering "facebook" into Google search, but some people are used to it.

As for whether it's a selfish thing or not, I think it very much is. But that's just human nature, and social media platforms are built by and for humans.

I fucking promise you that this dumb shit you're doing is not intentional. You are not supposed to navigate and keep track of the site by ARBITRARY PINGS about posts getting liked. I can't even fathom that you think this is even a desirable outcome.

None of you people deal with the bullshit I do. I have zero resources and so regardless of what I pick on this issue, outside of just telling you dumbfucks to pound sand, I eat shit.

Here's the shit I get to eat. I have to pick which shit I get to eat.

  • I fully permit dopamine zombies to get instantaneous notifications for every alert,
    • provoking reaction fueds where dipshits negrate each other,
    • report each other,
    • create TTS posts about their negrates,
    • and then have to deal with (or find volunteer staff to deal with) the resulting outcomes,
    • long-term feuds, and community issues which exist.
  • I meet the dopamine zombies halfway, permitting them to manually check the page if they really, really need to navigate the entire site by "Dumbnigger69 liked your post", but then I STILL deal with
    • negrate feuds (albeit less often, the delay seems to help), and then
    • I get to deal with people writing userscripts which effectively create a botnet to DoS attack the reactions received page to datamine
    • just so they can go back to being a stage 1 dopamine zombie that gets mad at dumb ratings.
  • I disable the pages that streamline sticker notifications and then deal with
    • threats against the forum
    • promises to pull all support
    • attacks against me personally in every imaginable vector
So this is my life! This is what I get paid almost nothing to deal with! The most ungrateful and annoying fucking faggots in the entire world so incapable of using a website that they rely on fucking likes to figure out where they even post, screaming and shitting themselves the second I change it. 50 fucking pages of screaming, 100+ posts on my profile whinging about it.

Like I really want to try and move forward with the 501(c)(4) but what's the point? Apparently I've lost all the goodwill in the entire world by changing sticker notifications and asking people not to use language which is codified in multiple state legislatures as criminal terminology.

Gotta get up, gotta start my day fresh, I have hundreds of people who can't stand change and fucking hate me to impress. Gotta be SUPER professional too, don't want to offend any low IQ people.

It's not, that's the point.

I'm interested in the Mad At The Internet thread. It's functionally a condensed list of news topics, plus your stream announcements, plus I can check if someone already alerted you to a story I might suggest for MATI. I check it every 2-3 days. I don't care about sticker notifs in that thread, but I also don't want to get notifs every time idiots argue about caffiene or diet or whatever clutters it up these days.

If I Watch it, for the days I don't check it, it clutters up my home screen at the top of my immovable Watched List. For the days that do check it, I immediately get a notif afterwards because it moves relatively fast. This notif is useless, and unavoidable for Watched threads. The Watched feature sucks for this, and in this case sticker notifications don't help either.

I follow the XFL thread, which keeps turning into new threads every time the XFL went bankrupt. It gets posts a few times a year, and I did Watch it. But I would also sometimes receive random reactions from people, without a post happening, that would remind me to go look up what's happening with the XFL. This made me research the company and post more happenings than I would have otherwise. Watching the thread helped, but stickers (pre- and post-Stickercaust) were the random-ass reminder to look into a niche topic that are only active 2 months out of the year.

TL;DR Watched Threads, and its current notif setup, are only useful for slow moving threads with infrequent updates. It sucks for anything more frequent, and it sucks for random nudges to action. None of this has anything to do with dopamine or karma chasing.
