Carpets were always the smell issue. I heard a story from my then boss at the time, he said he worked at a lady's house and she had so many cats, that they were pissing all over the corners and shitting anywhere if the litterbox was full. Sweet elderly lady and partial disabled, so she needed work done to make things more easier for her. He was removing the carpet and once the carpet was gone and the deep clean happened, the smell was virtually gone. Carpet is not good for animals. Hard floor and an area rug. Rug smells, get a new one, clean the floor.
