I know Bob is sadly not alone in this boat by a long shot, but what is it with Generation X and Millennials( present company included) can't seem to compare events today with historical events in the past and resort to pop culture? Are they really that oblivious to history?

Yes, because it doesn't really get taught in the U.S. education system.

That and I believe they didn't watch the History channel back when it was actually full of documentaries about history; or the Discovery channel when it had actual shows about proper human anatomy. Seriously, those channels were pretty great and informative back in the 90's.

I sort of wept when the History Channel got bogged down with reality tv crap and lost focus about what was important. Also I don't think Bob would watch a documentary unless it was some Michael Moore style documentary. They are both fat fucks with huge egos, but at least Moore is more successful and actually seems to care about the working class.

For Bob it was the 90's Console Wars that was his Vietnam. Also these idiots do have a war that is in similar veins as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars that seem unending with no tangible targets to take minus handfuls of Islamic extremists.

Thing is Iraq/Afghanistan isn't at all comparable to Vietnam and Bob knows it. A lot of those kids who had to run through the rice paddies didn't have a choice. Bob opted to sit out when Dubya needed men. You can't bitch about your generation's participation in a war when participation was completely voluntary. While the Chads who bullied him were taking Baghdad, he was playing Mario.

Actually, most of the soldiers in Vietnam were not drafted. Most of them were volunteers. The point still stand, as Iraq and Afghanistan is a whole different beast from the Vietnam war and that Bob is an asshole for comparing the goddamn Consolewars to Vietnam.

I can't recall the last time their was a film about going to a job you hate for 40 odd years while enjoying a fairly pleasent life and then dying of old age.

Don't think so, for a couple of reasons:

1) It's not especially well written, but it doesn't suffer too much from Bob's excessive, redundant verbiage.

2) No way Bob stress eats and notices gaining only four pounds.

I had no idea it was this bad.

Probably worth mentioning that extra punctuation, zero punctuation and judging by the cover are all done by the same guy (yahtzee). I always suspected that Yahtzee was propping up the site by himself, with Sterling and Blob acting as backup supports, but this just confirms it. I'm genuinely surprised he hasn't moved on to somewhere else at this point.

The Escapist has been in pretty bad shape for sometime; recently they gave up on keeping their gaming discussion subforum free from spambots, resulting in a lot less engagement. If the site survives past 2018 I'll be shocked.
