Doomworld - AKA Troonworld, a dedicated safe space for pedophiles and megalomaniacs - Corrupting the Doom community since 2016

What do you guys think of this? What are your thoughts and experiences with Eviternity 2?
I had a very positive first impression but am overdue a replay since that was before the final release. From what I recall the first two episodes were very strong but I was losing interest as I went on, though I am a bit more negative than I should be about the final episode since I got sick halfway through it and viral infections don't do well for one's opinion on the ebin monochromatic map meme. Seriously you go from stuff like a decaying heaven, a megastructure somewhere in Japan and a not very memorable but still really nice medieval castle to a slightly prettier version of one of the worst trends in Doom mapping? At least the first Eviternity had the courtesy of saving that shit for a part of the second last episode.

The Perforator gimmick was interesting (the secret maps had this new gun, a burst fire railgun that turned bullets into fuck you) but then half the episodes had the secret map be the second to last one so you'd barely get to use the gun overall and if you're pistol starting then tough shit. The new enemies were good but felt underutilized, their bullet hell take on vanilla enemies seems like something that could add a lot to fights but there was never a moment where I was debating between focusing on the revenants in the front or the nightmare motherfucker in the rear. Still a massive improvement over Eviternity 1's custom enemies who were easily the cause of most of my deaths and felt cheap as fuck, and as I mentioned prior 2's nerfs were genuinely satisfying because seriously fuck Annihilators what kind of a retard nigger takes a baron and gives it both the Cyberdemon's and Mastermind's weapons?

Secret maps were a mixed bag. 31 and 34 were good, 32 was guilty of being too big and running poorly at times but I'll admit I didn't mind because I am massive sucker for maps that are centered around the rocket launcher. 33 was a dumb obstacle course, 35's gimmick didn't click with me and as I mentioned 36 was the worst map of the wad and I sincerely hope the author never makes another Doom map again. As an aside I learned they have a merch store and wouldn't you fucking know.

I sincerely hope that having a map that looks nice as a poster wasn't a fucking priority over having one that's actually fun to play.

Speaking of Eviternity...
The main issue is overscaling and reliance on abundant detail, I think. I never played Eviternity - only saw a Dean of Doom episode about it. He praised it, of course, but I could see that I would be extremely bored by maps that have an approximate playtime of 25 minutes. It took time and effort to make those maps, but they don't feel Doom-y, to me at least. Maybe I'm just too much of a traditionalist (I want to relax when I play my vidya).

Ukiro, the OTEX texture pack creator.
His real name is Ola Bjorling, he took part in creating textures for Requiem, for example. He is a good artist and designer - most of his current work is photography for VR scoping and one singular game that I never heard about before. It's easier to stand out when you're a graphic designer amongst people who mainly gathered around just playing a game. Although, I can commend him for actually pursuing his craft, not many Doom Community people did that. He even made graphics and did general support for a VR platform.

I think he could've done OTEX better, though - some entries seem like redraws of Doom's textures. Although perhaps that was the intention. They all also look smudgy.

Forgot to mention that the majority of the maps range from having 30-60 thousand linedefs, which makes them too overwhelming visually. It's literally the Classic Doom equivalent of a modern game - all graphics, no substance. And that has always been one of my major gripes with the KKK stuff.
These morons are the same that cry about modern gaming's maximum focus on ultra realistic looking graphics but shit out maps that is all about beauty.
No self-awareness as usual.

Also, I noticed this little gem in the 'So you wanna play some fucking Doom' picture. This was obviously meant to be a joke but I'm afraid this has become somewhat a reality.

I decided to play the first couple maps and I hated it already. I haven't played the first Eviternity, but the first map was so dark and convoluted for no apparent reason, I got really pissed off with it. I finished the second map but the ammo starvation annoyed me immediately and the fights were not very inspired. I don't really care to play the rest, because the first two maps taking me a bout 15 minutes was not worth it for the quality of the content.

There was actually a reason for the layout. The map was a backtrack through parts of map29 of the first Eviternity, now decaying as is the theme of the first episode. I didn't have much trouble navigating as I have played the first one several times but I can certainly see it being more confusing to someone who haven't. There's a segment there where I always end up stumbling around for a bit trying to remember where the hell I was supposed to be going.

A couple of thoughts:

1) It's better for a Megawad to be the creation of a single person. Most of the time, large community works lack coherence and vision. Once this kind of pastime - making stuff for a game from the mid-1990's - becomes less about enjoyment and passion and more about bureaucracy, something basic dies.

2) The difference between some of the old classic Megawads (Alien Vendetta, Deus Vult, Memento Mori, Scythe, etc.) and modern ones is quite stark. I find that the old ones were often hard as hell but fun.

Do there no decent single man megawads exist in this current day and age? I'm not keeping track of things like that, because I gave up hope long ago. Surely something must have slipped past the Troonworld claws of BINGO card faggotry?

All I keep seeing when I browse around are community projects.

@ArticleWriter i always mean to ask you this but i keep forgetting. You say you write articles, yes? Are there any of them about Doom related topics? I'd love to check them out. I'd be interested if they cover other topics like movies and TV as well.

I kind of thought that might be the case after the fact, I feel like at least some intro or exposition would go a long way. It just isn't my sort of WAD fundamentally.

Most of the stuff by skillsaw is very good.

Has he made anything solo since Heartland?
A couple of remastered maps of his for a ZPack remaster. Shame to see him go to waste but with how the scene is nowadays it is hard to blame him.

As the local Eviternity glazer I feel obligated to say that his map for that wad was crap. Nigga did you even know that you were making a secret map or did they just tell you there was no need for two exits?

So from what I read here, Doom forums such as Doomworld expect mappers to meet a set of very specific arbitrary standards.

Online leftist and trannies are the people who always link Jacob Geller's Who's Afraid of Modern Art essay and add quotation marks around the word "bad" when discussing Tommy Wiseasu's masterpiece The Room, as they believe that all art is subjective and reduce its definition to "creative expression".

KKKlub would be literally Hitler for an average whiny retard from any other online art space.

Are you familiar with this one?
i might check it out later, too much IRL shit getting in the way. lol @ what seems to be clearly AI slop font in the picture

edit: I don't write articles anymore. that was a 2014 thing for a forgotten website thats not relevant anymore... just had to pick a name for KF because i didn't think I would do much here besides lurking.

Needs a quote from that John Carmack cancellation thread for that final touch.
All I'm familiar with that drama is that he mogged Troonworld indirectly by going to a con that was leaning more towards conservatism or something.

I'm curious now, what was the quote saying?
