The only race they obviously definitely arent is black. which is very racist of me.” Too lazy to find the screen cap again, you can find it quoted on multiple call out type tumblr blog posts. I imagine he just hadn't really considered it much and didn't actually care. It believe it was only after the Trickster Mode/Feeling Caucasian shitstorm that it became policy for the kids to remain raceless at all times and it was spun as some sort of socjus thing that it hadn't been initially. Idk, I wasn't in the fandom at the time. Interestingly, the reference to Bro being white was removed at some point, but I believe is back in again.
You're both technically right. Before the fandom became really social-justice-y (during the first updates of Act 6), Hussie coded the kids as white and made jokes that amounted to "it's pretty obvious what they're supposed to be, but think what you want". I recall him joking that Dave isn't a ginger, but that was, y'know,
a joke. As for instances in the comic itself, Bro was at one point called a "white rapper", Rose was described as having "skin white like a ghost", and the aliens called human babies "pink" on multiple occasions.
He waffled a lot during Act 6. At one point, he actually went back and bleeped out all of the references to race. Jesus Christ, why was it so controversial to call
a blonde, straight-haired Texan white? Anyway, he doubled down on the whole "aracial" thing for a while, be it to pacify the fandom or apparently his girlfriend(?). I know basically zero about his girlfriend/her meddling with the comic, beyond that she made the regrettable decision of getting a SBAHJ tattoo.
However, about halfway through Act 6 he got fed up with social justice influencing his comic (and or broke up with this SJW lady?) and basically threw up a big middle finger to the SJWs by making a caricature of them and making the tricksters "CAUCASIAN!" Right after that, though, he pussied out and changed it to "PEACHY" because people were calling him a racist.
After that, he slowly started to detach himself from social media. He pretty much never interacts with fans anymore, which is understandable given how autistic they are, but sad given that the comic literally began as a collaboration with fans. Imagine if you wrote a comic as sprawling, bizarre, and existential as that and people focused not on the shit you actually wrote about, but on the
one thing you expressly chose not to write about. It's roughly equivalent to people bitching about racial diversity in the Lord of the Rings in terms of pettiness and missing the point.
Guess that's what cognitive dissonance does to you. Like I said before, the only thing that matters to these people is diversity. If Sonichu was more diverse, these speds would probably defend it.
