...but tumblr unironically defends pedophilia and incest?
its ok if its real people bc then they can consent and pedophiles are just mentally ill uwuwuwu but fictional needs held to a higher standard!! that totally 40 year old woman who looks young is actually a child and cannot mentally consent to anything so this media of fiction is bad!!

So the same people that said a girl should kill herself for drawing Rose quartz kinda thin have essentially done a total 180 and say the SHOW is fatphobic? I give up trying to understand this....

I was in this fandom, I was like these idiots no that long ago. I'm not sure how the fuck I got out but God I'm glad I did.

oh sweet i was thinking about making this thread myself glad to see it’s popped up

the root of the issue with SU criticals is that the crewniverse the tumbrinas believed for a good two seasons to be //their guys// began to show themselves to be generally well rounded not batshit people, and when faced with cognitive dissonance tumblr jumped on their basic fight or flight mob attack response. once the show began to push the agenda of “people that do wrong can change and become good and being hostile towards them is wrong” is when shit started hitting the fan.

how entitled SU criticals are to actually believe they know what theyre doing above professional artists and writers, and how the they take it further by actually “improving” it with edits is beyond surreal

to be honest, that message is cool with people who didn't commit multiple system-genocide. I'm not sure if the same counts for the Diamonds...

I hate to barge in, especially when it comes to this goddamn fucking show, but yeah...

It doesn't count at all because the Diamonds are irredeemably evil assholes who should have been dealt with, already - or better yet, won by now, knowing whom they're up against aren't good at fighting, IMHO. The hypocrites trying to defend such cookie-cutter BS (on Tumblr, of course.) will never not be hilarious to watch flail around the issue, however.

ehh i gotta disagree. as rare as the situation is, in history there have been cases of some bloodthirsty people in power changing their ways. it’s not realistic sure, but it can happen, and it’s what’s happening in the context of the show.

Well, from the perspective of humans they're evil. To them humans are just pests in their garden. But I guess groundhogs and rabbits aren't intelligent creatures so IT'S DIFFERENT.

EDIT: I guess they did annihilate most of the crystal gems (their own people) on earth, and their planet is very authoritarian so yeah they do kinda suck. But in the next episode everyone is gonna make nicey-nice.

Honestly, the weirdest thing to me about the SU critical people is that the show itself has plenty of actual legitimate, glaring flaws what with loads of pacing problems, lack of any real plot structure, plot points happening when Steven arbitrarily decides to stop sitting on his hands, deus ex machimas out the ass when a conflict needs to be resolved, or just plain unsatisfying conclusions to arcs, etc. But instead of talking about any of those things, SU critical people tend to focus on trying to find something about how the show's racist or homophobic or whatever other -ist/phobic accusations they can pull out of their ass, or complain how a relationship is "unhealthy" now because they got into one argument, or just go after soft targets like the numerous off-model moments.

It's like they don't want to actually complain about the actual content because the show itself is supposedly a milestone in representation, so they gotta make up reasons as to why it's irredeemably problematic rather than just say they don't like the show or how it's executed.

... And that's what sucks about this, IMHO. It sounds original, but in reality, it's just terri-bad writing, if I must be honest with myself. Last time I checked, the best solution is for the lead villain(s) to be defeated (preferably made dead in this specific case;) for such awful actions - but what do I know? I'm not a writer; I just like to think I know common sense about concluding things proper thru writing that doesn't suck - like how letting your antagonist get away unscathed when they're down and have shit to answer for (enough that the cost at best is their LIFE, like again - in this case, for example.) is anything BUT a good thing to do, in the grand scheme of things.

Simply put, they just can't fucking acknowledge that this show really isn't all that great (if at all - despite having some ideas that could have been great in the hands of better writers/visionaries helping those writers out - because sometimes, the writers can't always churn out precious-metal quality in their work. It happens to us all...), and is nothing but LGBTQ-Whatever pandering at its least palatable after too long. I think I got the idea quite the long-ass time ago, unfortunately...

That's what happens when you pander to me about how great gay marriage and fighting with crying are better than, you know - fighting for real to solve problems that require it (don't get me wrong - words are okay when it's a debate, but violence is the answer when you know you're getting hurt. I hate to come off like some unwashed brute (because I'm not that violent a person IRL, either.), but the simple truth is that not enough fist-throwing where necessary is happening here in this show at all, honestly.).

tfw SU Crit cried for months after A Single Pale Rose, because they somehow thought that Pink Diamond was portrayed positively, justified, and without flaws even though the episode was legitimately just a neutral retelling of events. Moreover, she was on screen for like 2 minutes, and they ignored when Rebecca Sugar literally said "Rose Quartz was a terrible person."

THEN, they act all surprised during the Heart of the Crystal Gems marathon and were like "wow the Crewniverse must've listened to us and painting Pink Diamond in a negative light." No shit. They created a strawman and didn't even know it.

Well the shattering of pink will be reconcilable. But the diamonds still have to be held accountable for the way they quashed the rebellion. I felt that ruby and sapphire's marriage was a bit much too.

Characters get excited over nothing happening. You could have an episode about watching paint dry and there'd be a lot of shouting and bouncing and in the end would be a message about accepting the paint for what it is and maybe it doesn't want to dry while being looked at.

These people are proof that it's useless pandering to this particular demographic. You can have a diverse cast if you want, but there's no point in walking on eggshells to please people like this because they cannot be pleased. Even if you don't do something they REALLY hate (like killing off their favorite character) they'll find a way to rake you over the coals because a black-coded character got less lines in this episode or some shit. Claiming to be inclusive just makes them scrutinize you harder. Better to just let them howl in their own little corner and not bother marketing to them.

i just want my Peridot/Ronaldo ship, man. I wanna see Lapis sitting outside the barn with a dejected expression while inside something is creaking and Peridot whimpers and moans.

I remember when the SU critical first started being a thing. They actually did criticise the pacing problems, lack of plot structure and the animation. At some point, they got hijacked by the people who focused on how the show is racist, homophobic or whatever. Now SU critical is just a giant joke. Assuming they weren't already.

Sigh, they've crawled out of their caves to bitch about a kids show again.

Classing ass-reaching to call things fetishism/microaggressions/desexualization (wtf even is that)

This hoe ain't even black, yet she's obsessed with Bismuth's "black-codedness" and "oppression"

You know they're retarded when they go off about their right to kill their oppressors or some insane shit

Calling someone "fucking stupid" is ableist?? What even???? What??
The irony is that her reaction image comes off more as "ableist" with a condescending kid tone than nerdbeast supposedly did.

And of course her ocs look like what you'd expect tumblr ocs to look like

"Spectrum Squad" just about sums up tumblr.
