Sony forces Japanese developers to censor sexual content - For Japanese audiences too.

Ok. I tried playing Gal Gun on the PS4 since it came with the PSNow subscription. Five minutes of that was more than enough hentai weebery for me.

I bought the PS4 specifically for the weird ass Japanese games that would never get released on the One. And now Sony wants to make the PS4 less weebish. Is nothing sacred anymore?

Then again, games like GTAV and The Witcher III have far more explicit sexual content than most of what is coming out of Japan that isn’t straight up hentai. Sony probably will want a cut of the cash from those franchises in the future.

Toss in RDR2 for walking into a room where a prostitute is having sex with a john during your druken binge.

Given the issue though they have been having a hot streak with localized Japanese Games (Yakuza, DQ, AC7, Catherine, MH) and they want to keep it that way upselling games like that. The games Sony censored represented the worst in cold streak for the PS3 as most of them received mediocre to no reviews from Metacritic and it was one of the many reasons why they started clamping down on the smaller devs who don't know subtlety if it bit them in the ass. This is Takaki's greatest weakness with Senran Kagura, live like a bachelor who throw loud orgies in an apartment that is having new strata laws on noise complaints and you will be the one taking the flak .

But it is too late now for Takaki to leave Sony, he is too tied to the company to write them off without burning through what ricebux he got from the weebs who bought his games because of the titties. Now he either has to handle sexual themes like an adult or be treated like a kid who got caught reading his daddy's Young Animal stash.

Sony has finally achieved its maximum power level: Fully killing off its gaming division so it can be profitable at nothing it does.

it's kinda funny with this whole thing happening.Japan has kinda its own issue too by not allowing too much violence in their video games.Mortal Kombat,despite being on a great streak of good games coming out since MK9,had none of the recent games released there because the violence is too much for the board that regulates classification of games in Japan(though no Mortal Kombat game has been released in Japan since MK3 anyway.),although I hear the recent MK games are popular amongst Japanese importers

Issue though is less what it means for small-time softcore smut and more what it can mean for bigger titles in the future. There are already hints that it may affect Catherine from Atlus' Twitter. And unlike Senran, the adult content in Catherine actually affects the story

Given how Catherine went through unscathed, I think Atlus actually has an understanding of what Sony sees as acceptable and unacceptable. But for smaller devs, they don't have the benefit of the doubt or the kind of influence that has Sony look the other way. The big issue always have been for Japan that so long as they obey the spirit of the law with CERO, they let you get away with everything from tramp tattoos on their wombs to totally not sex minigames with a lot of doublespeak.

Sony pretty much flat out said no to these as it made the console look immature and low brow. They can cope with the tough social issues involving sex but anything that in their eyes is the kind of immature fanservice is having Sony clamp down like a bunch of idiots who after one incident makes that hard resolution to go "never again"

Of course Japan, not believing or knowing subtlety decided to go full hammer on what they believed is problematic. Unable to abandon the PS4 given how once you cut off the business relationship it is hard to mend it.

I don't know what's worse, what Sony's doing or the fact that attention whores like Jeremy Hambeast and ReviewFatUSA are gonna be making clickbait garbage on the topic non-stop for like a year
