Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Question, my fellow tard brothahs, talking about something that has some quality to it.

The Force Unleashed

What are your thoughts on it and Starkiller's character?
It came to me as I wondered about their games and how the character of Starkiller could be seen as a "Gary Sue" since he defeats both Vader and Sideous (even having the option to kill Vader, tho he canonically decides not to). Personally I never minded it but it does make you wonder if his feat of defeating Vader and Sideous wouldnt be going too far, Galen had shown natural potential with the force when he was a freaking toddler (he fucking force pulls Vader's lightsaber from his grasp like it was nothing) and being trained by Vader himself by being put under constant torturous and life threatening conditions would definetly give him a natural edge against him. The problem is that I never felt like Galen was truly trained that much by the dark side, he should have ended up as something like Darth Maul and yet Galen was capable of changing sides and even "becoming a Jedi" somewhat (which for me just felt like they were trying to force a light side ending). But with all its flaws, I do enjoy the game for what it is, especially for the time it came out (no wonder the new game is trying to copy it).
Now to quickly talk about the sequel
Nope, I dont like it, felt forced as hell and the starkiller clone felt like cheap plot device to bring him back but "not really", the first game ended on a tragic bittersweet note that added to the universe at the end, Galen's family icon becoming that of the rebellion was a nice touch and Vader accidentally helping the rebellion (while a bit forced in my eyes, seeing a patern here?) had that nice touch of dramatic irony. The sequel dropped most of these things and its far too short...and thats it, there isnt much to talk about the sequel, it was pretty much the last significant game Lucasfilm did it before Disney bought them, anything else was cancelled or was stuck in development hell.

I will give videogames a lot of slack when it comes to plot, because you need to balance story and fun. You can't have him not fight Vader. As another kiwi said, the switching sides twist was a little too sharp but I get why they did it how they did it. They could have done better, but ok.
The only other thing I felt was sort of off was the Emperor treating Vader as expendable.

Agree with the sequel stuff, I also thought the Clone plot device was super fucking cheap. Just figure out some bullshit reason he's in a Bacta tank for two years. The Emperor didn't want a dead martyr, or some shit.

Apparently the comics have gotten so bad they are actually putting in ships made by fans and tracing miniatures for the art.

Is this common in comics? This just seems like really shoddy quality control.

As a leper on the teat of ComicsGate I can affirm that yes the comics industry is that desperate, that shitty, and has fallen that far from God's Light.

I liked the first Force Unleashed. Granted a few minor things did kind of feel off story-wise, but overall it was a fun game and I enjoyed the gameplay, even though the game wasn't successful at capturing the complex lightsaber mechanics of predecessors, but the violence was kino. Also wrecking a whole Star Destroyer by yourself feels pretty damn good.

The sequel however is another story. I really wasn't fond of the story at all, especially how it handles Starkiller's "deaths" and the clone nonsense, but I didn't hate it... much... And the story (while not to my liking) wasn't unwatchable or dogshit and the characters weren't offensive to the senses like Disney's, I just really wasn't fond of the direction they took, but in the end I had fun with the game and its setting at least. Could've been handled way better honestly but its something I would find myself replaying, although that may have been due to how short it was.

They're not my favorite SW games as there were games far more superior to them, but they still get a good and above average grade unlike Disney games where they're usually below average or just down right scam-tier.

I also appreciate both games for carrying on the tradition of jedi games letting you choose between light and dark and making it so your decisions have meaning, unlike the upcoming Fallen Order where you're stuck with a linear character with a fixed moral compass.

Edit: I also forgot to add that Force Unleashed's existence is what resulted in Vader, Yoda and Starkiller in Soul Calibur IV. That made the first FU totally worth it.

Let's not exaggerate the state of Star Wars before The Mouse bought it. Lucas fucking ruined the franchise with his atrocious prequel films. People like to claim the PT are ackshually great compared to the ST. No they aren't. They're awful.

You could say live action SW was at least still restricted to the films, and that would be true. But the brand was damaged long before Disney overpaid for it and decided to fuck it up in a slightly different way.
"Ruined the franchise" is a bit of an extreme. The only thing the prequels accomplished was killing people's hopes for ever seeing a good SW film again, but honestly they should've seen that coming after ROTJ's Ewoks turned out to be hamfisted merch promotion which was followed by the questionable Ewoks: Caravan of Courage. Despite the questionable quality of writing and continuity in the prequels, the franchise was far from ruined or fucked. Merch was still selling like hot cakes, awesome and highly praised games were still coming out the wazoo, Genndy Wars was an award-winning animated mini-series that managed to make something amazing out of what was considered at the time the worst SW film (AotC), comics and novels were taken over by prequel shit for a bit but even they found ways to turn the awful story and characters of the prequels around while selling more than Disney's lackluster comics and novels. And despite my many MANY grievances with Filoni Wars and a movie/pilot that rightfully flopped in theaters, it proved very successful, didn't hold back on violence and death, went all out with its budget by creating a show that still looks better than Disney's modern cgi shit shows 10 years later, and it spawned its own large young fanbase (with a creepy waifu cult based around an orange 13 year old they never shut up about) that remains a large part of Disney's adult audience to this day much to my mixed chagrin... Same with Karen Travis Fandalorian wank, in that while it was filled to the brim with obnoxious Mandalorian masturbation fantasies, it spawned an even bigger fanbase to rival and eventually surpass the Klingon fanbase within Trekkies. And to repeat, the video game scene of SW thrived insanely in the 2000s, and despite the release of the disaster that was TORtanic in 2011, that wasn't enough to even hurt the brand but make people look down on EA more than ever. And despite how abysmal Attack of the Clones was, ROTS managed to earn far more than it. And as proven by some japanese editing nerd, there's a good movie to be salvaged from the prequels with some proper editing and japanese dialogue to replace the poorly directed english dialogue. So yes, TPM is flawed, AotC is bad and ROTS had the potential to be better, but they didn't ruin the franchise to the point where that shit could no longer rake in cash, and despite what critics and the media said, you would still see kids, parents and nerds buying both OT, Prequel and other SW stuff they came across. Meanwhile Disney is forced to just dump every unsold thing they produce into furnaces and warehouses to hide the shame of their financial losses.

Case in point:

Just to name a few of the countless things that have gone wrong without even bringing up the further disasters that were Galaxy's Edge, Solo and BFII's controversial release.

Hell, even as people like me acknowledged back when ROTS came out that the saga should've been was done, we still had a passion for Star Wars.

Yet again, someone at Disney was being a raging asshole and ruined things for ass.

Big Bang Theory is the cancer that spread into the nerd/geek culture and infected it from within and spread without check. Any episode of that show is literally cringe for me to watch it. I hate it so much and all the cunts that ape that mentality who are nuthugging all over any shit Sheldon does.

I'm glad BBT got canceled just to take away Wil Wheaton's last job that he'll ever have.

I mean we get that anyways now, they just stole all the "Best" Nerd shit and tell us we are "Incel Nazis" when we we say "hey you are turning Star Wars into trash you Rich Yuppie Poser"

One thing to remember is that a lot of nerds are just people who used fantasy escapism to cope with a difficult reality, I know that was the case with me.

It's not about just chasing what's trendy, there's real passion and meaning behind this stuff for us, that's what posers don't understand, it's all just frivolous bullshit to them that only really matters for how it makes them appear to others, nerds like what we like regardless of if it will win us any popularity.

Went to home depo on Monday and they’re selling fucking fridges in different bland neutral colors with the name slapped on em.
They're really fucking desperate to get the hype up for the new movie. I don't remember this level of advertising for TLJ.

You sure? Because it's sure as hell not even close to hyped here. TLJ single-handedly made me dread Christmas because the fucking ads started in October and rolled non-stop till January. It's still thankfully Star Wars free here in mid-November, but I expect the marketing blitz to start soon now that they actually managed to nail a trailer.

Honestly I feel this just another of Disney's failed attempt to merchandise the brand.

I'm more concerned with the lack of proper advertising. All I've seen in regards to "advertising" Plan 9 are the trailers, a handful of pez dispensers at super markets, and a few of these stupid lifestyle merch ads about Plan 9 cooking tools, appliances, self-help books, airlines and women's accessories. Yet no toys, no billboards, no posters, no commercials, no banners, no nothing, meanwhile I'm still seeing Joker ads everywhere on the sides of the roads. Is Disney seriously trying to get that Rich Wine Mom money? Why would Rich wine moms want this stuff? They might buy stupid crap for their kids, but why buy SW shit tailor made for them rather than their kids or manchild offspring?

In other news, the new trailer for the fucking Sonic movie of all things just surpassed the like count for Plan IX's final trailer and already has more views than IX had in its first 2 days.

Wow, it’s too early, but I think the Sonic movie might be profitable than Episode 9 now. Plus it would be a nice reward for the filmmakers and Paramount for listening to the fans and making it better instead of mocking the fans.

I still believe the "Original" sonic design was intentionally bad to provoke a backlash they could "listen to fan feedback" about.

Earlier this year Scott Mendelson was claiming that the Sonic movie counted as serious competition to hamper Episode IX's box office. At the time, I wrote it off as some next level shillery out of desperation to run damage control for the Mouse.

Now? That might've been one of his more prescient moments.

You might be onto something, that original design is just so fucking bad it's hard to believe they ever thought it was acceptable.

Honestly, not to power lvl but I intend to create my own comic series (if not brand) one day and Im wondering how we could possibly bring a rebirth to the industry because it is in despered need of a reboot with actual people that give a shit. Comics aint going anywhere but those assholes surely are.

Sonic - Listened to criticism, delayed the movie and fixed it the design
SW - Called the criticism racist and sexist and is just going to double down on it.

Gesh, its almost listening the fans and having the guts to admit you are wrong actually pays off

Who knew?

I still believe the "Original" sonic design was intentionally bad to provoke a backlash they could "listen to fan feedback" about.

Oh trust me, if Sonic was female, they would have said it was sexist to demand she changes (like if she is a real living being, bunch of Chris Chans...).
But they didnt have that card so they had to be humble and admit they fucked up.

The likes are nearly fucking doubled, it's got less than a quarter of the dislikes, and the view count is close despite this trailer having come out two days ago as compared to TROS's release in October.

Holy fucking shit this is hilarious

I always knew Jumanji 2 would surpass Episode IX. But even Sanic? lmao

The real test will be if Cats puts a crimp in Episode IX's opening weekend. They open the same day. I don't expect it to happen, but then again, way more people were talking about that trailer than they were talking about the sad, wet, dying fart of the Star Wars franchise.
