On the subject of masks vs. ventilators, and the production of both by the market, free or otherwise:

General Motors finished its first mask on a newly-built assembly line at 2:30 pm last Friday, March 27. As of Monday, March 30, they had 2,000 test masks made. They hope to have 20,000 final-product face masks made and delivered by Wednesday, April 8th, and to produce 50,000 masks a day once they reach full speed.
General Motors and Ford are both hoping to begin producing ventilators themselves sometime in April. Currently they are using their logistics chains and engineering expertise to help existing ventilator companies increase production. (archive - GM). (archive - Ford).
Neither Ford nor GM has an estimated date when normal automobile production will resume. Chrysler and various foreign-owned automobile companies are currently hoping to reopen on various dates in April.

Congress exempted itself from insider trading. They all do it constantly.

I already talked about the new restrictions imposed today, so just a brief update on Polish numbers before @No_one gets the jump on me: 256 new cases is the highest daily growth so far, but only by very little. In terms of percentages it's just 12.5%. There were also two more deaths. All in all this puts us at 2277 active cases. I believe the administrative decisions by the government so far were really well timed and have so far largely prevented us from runaway spread.

It's probably still inevitable that we will enter a phase where tens of people will be dying every day because major infection clusters tend to be in hospitals and nursing homes, so places where people are already weak and vulnerable. There are some pretty ugly stories coming in from Germany regarding this.

The supermarket today was less crowded then average and properly stocked, there was no run and stockpiling food despite widespread knowledge of upcoming new restrictions. Still no buckwheat though.

Got a few here.

Looks like Michigan's governor is beyond retarded. Seriously, she must be delusional.

local big test site has changed from "have a good reason to get tested" to "any random schizo can come on by, whatevs" so I'm guess things aren't so bad if they can waste time and resources like that

Yeah, but what's the turnaround time like for the results? That's the main problem here. People are waiting 11-12 days for results to come back, which makes testing useless. HCQ only works when you start it early.

We increased the number of testing sites in my county without actually increasing ability to run more tests. All those nasal swabs just sit in a lab forever.

You thought a pandemic would sideline tranny virtue signaling? Think again.

That or they got tired of gangsters threatening to shoot the place up.

How about because people get more out of the structure (rituals, mythology) than out of the vague mush that is "spiritual but not religious"? You can try to make your own ritual/mythology, too, but it feels empty and silly. The age of old religion is exactly what gives it its power.

Edit: Apologies if this came across as a bit hostile.

No offense taken. Many get a lot out of the rituals, which is why I said in my post that your mileage may vary. Have never gotten anything out of the rituals.

Teeny bit of goodish news. The head of the NHS Says there are green shoots. UK cases appear to be plateauing at around the 2,500 mark and will hopefully begin to drop by next week. Looks like it's working, somewhat as the rate of infection is slowing. Hope is that testing will continue and we'll see a drop by this time next week.

In more Pillockshirian News. A pair of Lynx helicopters flew low and slow over the town today. While seeing military aircraft fly overhead isn't all that rare, it's usually american or british fast jets high above. Not the first time its happened during the outbreak, but the first time they kept a steady run over, rather than a quick pan around.

It's amazing how many enlightened fedora tippers are gathered together making fun of the fact that the government trampled over the 1st amendment because 'lol dumb religion people', when Kiwi Farms exists because of that same amendment.
I'm not against their gathering, quite the opposite. It's fun to watch them do stupid stuff, much like a cow. Most relgions who care about their peeps went online already and noone is preventing religion...it's the only ones who insist that god can't hear them unless they are 'so big' or in a particular building and they have no faith anyways.

So, a twist on that chloroquine fish tank cleaner tale that the news was breathlessly reporting on a week or so ago...

In retail land, our shelves are almost back to normal, especially shelf stable food, which we have tons and tons of, more than can fit on the shelves.

I work a little over an hour outside of NYC and we're hit pretty hard here too, so I think most people decided to pack it in and stay home for a little bit. The empty roads are a bit spooky.

Toilet paper and Lysol still sell out pretty quickly, but we receive them every day so there doesn't seem to be any issue with supply. The one thing we never get is hand sanitizer, apparently there is FDA red tape slowing production down, which is why it's so hard to come by everywhere.

I am wondering if more drastic measures are coming soon, this is definitely an area of the country where lockdowns are probably not lifting anytime soon. I knew it would be like that here because of NYC, but it's still scary to see the numbers.

I know 1 person who tested positive and 3 who most likely had/have it. The one who tested positive was almost asymptomatic and only got tested because of close contact with a positive case, the rest all got pretty sick but not sick enough to need a hospital and it sounds like they have been through the worst and are recovering now. These are all people in their 20s and 30s.

Charlie Kirk has a ton of dumb takes in general but this is especially stupid. And I'm speaking from the perspective of a Catholic, an actual person of faith, btw.

It sucks that people can't go to church, but it's just not safe. I feel like God would very much understand the present circumstances and wouldn't want people recklessly endangering themselves in His name.
There are already way too many dumbfucks, especially megachurches, who are making Christians look bad and recklessly endangering their parishes by flaunting social distancing rules. Nobody should be having large gatherings now, churches are not exempt from this rule. Faith will not protect you from a virus.
Lmfao at this dude thinking that we can do "socially distanced" Easter. Has he ever been to an Easter service? That's when all of the twice a year Christians come out of the woodwork and the churches get fucking packed. At my church (which is pretty large) there are several Easter services spaced an hour apart and we still have to use the school's gym as a makeshift church to fit everyone. And even then it's still jam-packed in both the main church and the gym. Social distancing is simply impossible, even for regular church services.
I know some places are offering streaming of church services, which while it isn't as effective as the real deal is still a good solution. Obviously there are parts you miss out on (like the Eucharist in Catholic Mass) but it's still worth it. Also, I heard that my pastor is doing one-on-one meetings with people who want Reconciliation or other sacraments. I'm sure other priests and pastors are offering their own services on a one-on-one basis too.
Also I'd love to see a potential lolsuit go to court. What makes him think churches are exempt from social distancing orders?

Remember the outrage when Trump suggested PPE was going "out the back door"?

The NY Post reports a man was arrested for hoarding a huge cache of PPE. A doctor reported to investigators the suspected hoarder possessed enough medical supplies “to outfit an entire hospital.” He allegedly sold a NJ doctor 1000 masks for $12,000-a markup of roughly 700 percent.

He coofed on the FBI in an attempt to, I don't know, make things worse for himself.

The article implies these are the supplies of PPE that went missing at NY hospitals. I mean, it's not like nothing ever fell off the back of a truck in New York City, right?

Death of German Finance Official Linked to Virus Crisis
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
March 29, 2020, 3:47 PM GMT+3 Updated on March 29, 2020, 4:30 PM GMT+3

Berlin (AP) -- The state finance minister of Germany’s Hesse region, which includes Frankfurt, has been found dead. Authorities said he appears to have killed himself and the state's governor suggested Sunday that he was in despair over the fallout from the coronavirus crisis.

The body of Thomas Schaefer, a 54-year-old member of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democratic Union, was found Saturday on railway tracks at Hochheim, near Frankfurt.

Police and prosecutors said that factors including questioning of witnesses and their own observations at the scene led them to conclude that Schaefer killed himself.

State governor Volker Bouffier linked Schaefer’s death to the virus crisis on Sunday.

Bouffier said Schaefer was worried about “whether it would be possible to succeed in fulfilling the population’s huge expectations, particularly of financial help.”

“I have to assume that these worries overwhelmed him,” Bouffier said. “He apparently couldn’t find a way out. He was in despair and left us.”

Germany's federal and state governments have drawn up huge aid packages to cushion the blow of largely shutting down public life to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Schaefer had been Hesse’s state finance minister for a decade.

But I bet the next piece of news is UK hospitals are full and they're telling people to go home. Thus, no new admissions.

Four zookeepers have decided to self-isolate on the grounds of a wildlife sanctuary to make sure the animals are properly cared for during the coronavirus crisis.

That’s really cool, good for them. According to the article there 1,200 birds and mammals who reside in the sanctuary so it’s certainly a big job to take care of all them. It must be really rewarding work, though. I’d love to take care of animals.

1. There's a worldwide plot to replace native people with immigrants. It's called "replacement theory." It's one of those things that you're social conditioned not to even talk about, preferably not to think about.
2. The left thinks these types vote left. Basically, they think they're gonna import a whole new generation of dindus, only this time, they'll be less fucking exceptional and actually work for a living -- it's win win! For the more communist minded leftists, they think brown immigrants are natural proletarians that will help them rise up against the oppressors. For the neo-marxist types, anything not a white person is inherently a good thing.
3. They depress wages like nothing else, making certain people (who support #1 and 2) very very rich. (Mastercard also believes they'll get all these people addicted to credit.)

Absolutely

Are we still demanding that senators who bought/sold stock based on insider info (which isn't illegal, thanks Obama) should be strug up?

Because Pelosi was just caught doing it.

Sometimes Justice is far and never coming

Unity is weakness.
Diversity is strength.
Censorship is freedom.

Ah these phrases bring me back in time. How I miss the days before the virus hit. Jumping on airplanes. Going out to social events without wearing mask. The biggest worry was getting pulled over and arrested for DUI, not pulled over and searched because "we told you not to be out past curfew." Kids playing in parks. The last bail out being during Obama administration. I almost thought never again in my life would I see another huge publicly stated multi-billion-dollar bail out.

It was only a few weeks back really but almost feels like years at this point. People would talk about movies and their favorite actors and the meaning of life and if they thought the next Matrix would make Keanu Reeves look bad or be his best movie ever. Kids playing in parks.

The only things I do not miss are the heavy traffic but at least people seemed happier then. Now its just people rushing to the store to buy up all the toilet paper then rush back to the house to glue them self. These days I cough once or my throat hurts just a little or I feel a little tired I am like "is this it? Is it kicking in? Do I have the covid."

But also every time I see CNN on I want to throw a fucking 5 pound weight through the tv screen. Their answers on who has what and what is going on jump from this to that to this to whatever. Nobody really has a fucking clue unless you work in a hospital and still only know what is happening in your hospital so nobody has a fucking clue. It is all hearsay.

I miss those days. People going out on boats and actually wanting to return with fresh catch and too much beer stories instead of wanting to just stay on the boat and self isolate. Everything now is just done to further isolation.

The days of people proudly marching to the streets and rioting for reasons not related to economic shutdown like in Hong Kong but just because they fucking feel like stretching their amendment rights a bit...
They seem......
...... So long.....
....so long ago.

Sometimes I sit and wonder while smoking a blunt if those days will ever return. Will they? Are those days gone for good? The days of Madison Square Garden filled to capacity with raging concert fans and not make shift covid-19 help tents. *sniff* brings a tear to my eye.

So, another grim milestone has been hit. At the time of writing, we're at 4,215 new deaths today globally.
This beats the average of 4109 a day for Tuberculosis, so for today at least, the Wuflu was the worlds leading cause of death from a single infectious agent.

How can this be well verified? Not saying it isn't real. Not saying it is. This information comes in so fast its hard to believe. One day this is 1/3rd the total world deaths from this. Now this is all the people dying from this in one day?

Then the 2% mortality rate would change. It would be a lot higher like 20%.

But I am saying something like this is posted then the next day a brand new number. How does anyone know what is real or not anymore? Where can anyone get facts besides the news or government websites? Which I am wary of

Since related issues have been brought up a few times, just a historical tidbit...

One of the biggest ways that Christianity spread pre-Constantine was ministering to the poor and sick, especially in times and areas of plague. Those who recovered would often go on to become Christians, inspired by the courage and charity of the Christians who had cared for them.

Not really suggesting anything, and I have no idea what the modern implications might be, just an observation. I think God will understand not going to church to avoid coofing on old people for a month or two.

I don't think that God cares one way or the other if you attend church weekly. God was around, long before churches were. I know that this is not a particularly conventional Catholic view, but Mass is for you, not for God.

In the end it is about how well you lived in the way we are asked to live. Just my opinion. But I think that an honest Atheist will get to heaven (if there even is such a thing) before some greedy Bible-thumping bigot.

Edit: 13.a.iii.A says that I can still go for walks as an Essential Activity; I could even take a bus to get there. This is dumb.

Also, apparently we are legally required to wash our hands for at least 20 seconds, frequently.
