Star Wars Expanded Universe Fans/Cultists - I HOPE YOU LIKE STAR WARS AUTISM

Well, part of the problem was that the guy that came up with the droid numbers ignored the fact that his figures were a million times bigger than the Republic itself. Unfortunately, Star Wars writers are supposed to mesh things when contradictions came up, but this was one that was too insurmountable, even if they had a better writer, and we instead got Traviss having to fill in the gaps. We saw how badly that went.

Yeah, a quintillion battle droids, I know. The thing is though...they're droids. Attack of the Clones showed how quickly mass-produced battle droids can be made, and that was just in one factory. The Separatists clearly had more factories than the ones on Geonosis, otherwise the war would have ended when the movie did.

So are star destroyers called that because they are big scary ships or because they are destroyer-class ships?

I always thought they were more like aircraft carriers, but maybe I'm wrong. I've seen the movies and read Shadows of the Empire, but that's as far as my knowledge goes.

Oh actually, I read another Star Wars book, and it was absolutely horrible:

Anyone else read this piece of garbage?

Back when GL was around, I was always amused when people lamented how he betrayed them for ignoring the EU despite his assurances. GL had never given such assurances and had in fact given numerous statements about the EU being in a parallel universe.

I am seriously astounded that these people care this much about what is essentially fanfic. Aside from the hilarious idea that Boba Fett has escaped and been swallowed by the sarlacc pit a couple of times shit seems mad boring.

This is one of those things where I can sympathize with the cows, even if I giggle at the extent to which they take it. For some people, the movies are the extent of Star Wars. That's fine and acceptable. For others, and I include myself in this, the movies weren't enough. The books had the sheen of canon. They weren't like Star Trek books where they were episodic and explicitly non-canon - they were in continuity with one another and with the movies and were considered canon until either George or his movies contradicted them. Lucas actually took some things from the EU and put them back into the movies. That was cool. For spergy little kids like me (and those of us who didn't grow out of it), knowing those details made you feel part of the universe.

But what was really cool about the EU was that it democratized Star Wars in a way. When I was little and reading these books and having dreams of being a published author, the thought that I could write and practice and get better and maybe one day be able to contribute to the Star Wars universe in an official way? That was beyond the best thing.

And so I can kinda understand how people are upset. The decision reminds people that Star wars, at the end of the day, still isn't "theirs". I don't mind as much because, as I said, I grew "out of" Star Wars to the point where I could see it from the outside and see how bloated and weird and unwieldy it had become.

But... Darth Vader didn't have a glove, he had a mask. Luke Skywalker had a glove.

wait wait wait wait wait wait wait.....
"Gloria Tesch"

as in Gloria "The Uwe Boll of Fanfiction" Tesch!?
as in the same Gloria Tesch who "published" The Maradonia Saga, the fantasy novel equivalent of "The Room"!?
and that shit got on the New York Times Bestseller list?
Now I don't know which to hate on more....the Star Wars franchise....the New York Times....or humanities endless taste for illiterate garbage.

Probably not. She looks like she's 16. That book came out in the nineties.

Are you being sarcastic?

EDIT: nvm, my bad. I.H.B.T. H.A.N.D.

But anyhow,
Some of that EU stuff had to go. Some of it was THIS level of corny.

check out that Bucky O'hare motherfucker on the right. HE WAS ONE OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS FOR AWHILE! He was treated as equally important a character as Han Solo for a couple years.

I think the purge should continue until only the first and second movies are the only ones left and considered canon.

....about what?
No. It was a serious question. There was only one writer I knew of named Gloria Tesch, and I never thought she would get published, much less than she would/could/should ever get on the New York Times bestseller list.
Granted, we are living in a world where a bad Twilight fanfic was turned into a BDSM-themed cultural phenom; so I shouldn't be surprised.

It's photoshopped.

Oh wow.
Okay.
You can't imagine my feeling of relief.
Granted, 50 shades of grey happened. So, writers as bad as tesch can get published and paid....soooo....I guess I shouldn't get too sure that humanity has taste just yet.

EDIT: Sorry for the thread derail.

LOL, no. If you look at that book cover a bit more closely, you'll easily see that I manipulated it, putting in the name "Gloria Tesch" instead of the real author's name, Barbara Hambly.
(The main - maybe only - difference between Tesch and Hambly is that the latter invested a bit more effort into editing her manuscript.)

Those comics also had the time Lando dressed up as Captain Harlock for a while because why not.
