The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

It would be in their best interest to get it out ASAP before it becomes a complete joke/meme in peoples minds.

Not everyone keeps up to date with gaming news so they'll still get plenty of sales.
That's why I think the leakers did a damn fine job. Keep that timebomb right up until launch so they can't weasel out of it. They could've salvaged the game had they leaked this stuff a couple years ago, but now they're committed. It's so tasty to know they can't do some weak lip service about listening to fans and un-fuck it. I want these wretches to have to stand by their nonsense, 100% of their own creation. If they change it at all they end up blaming the changes and the fans for it not meeting their ludicrous vision.

I can assume that higher ups just let the studio do whatever with the assurances it would be just as good as the last one, hailed by everyone who owns a PS4, will buy the PS5 with a bundled collectors' edition version in a year, and drop $350 for the special tin that includes the game, an artbook, and a stained abby tanktop.

I wish I could see the high level board meeting where a bunch of older folks watch this to get a feel for what's going on. I wanna hear the collective sound of 20 dumbfounded, appalled old folks as they struggle to understand how this was somehow deserving of 8 years and XXYY million dollars.

The 360 lauched a year/year and a half early - Sony won - even with being 200 dollars more expensive and tens of millions of duplicate 360 consoles sold from the RRoD fiasco.
I'm not really sure I agree with that, everything I remember from that time, the 360 was vastly more popular, both with people I knew in real life, and on the internet.

After that, what really dumpstered the Xbone was a HORRIBLE public image pre-release, with the whole always online, no used games, and them seemingly trying to market it as an "all in one entertainment device" instead of what it really is and should be, a video game console.
Also, the lack of good exclusives didn't really help.
Given the lack of REALLY bad PR for Microsoft, and the nonsensical teraflops comparison being thrown around this time, Microsoft is much less apt to lose as hard as they did this time around.

Sony fanboys will probably buy a PS5 no matter what, and that the XSX is having the idea to have it's exclusives also release on the Xbone makes buying it seem redundant, but I wouldn't say it's a foregone conclusion that Sony will "win" the pissing contest that is the console war.

Thing is, I'm not a console user or fanboy but you might have a point here. There are enough fanboys out there who will buy a PS5 on day one even if it costs two grand and requires you to be kicked in the crotch ten times in its EULA. And there's enough NPCs who will just consoome product.

Or without the hyperbole. The massive Sony console market fanbase will buy the console that has the very same franchises, controller, online network, etc. that led Sony to utterly dominate with the PS4 despite the heavy handed reaction Sony is having to the leaks.

A month after the TLoU2 lands, no one will care or talk about outside of the type of fanboys who still think posting comments about rootkits is going to cause tens of millions of console gamers to drop their favorite console and go out and buy a console they didn't give a shit about before.

Steroids also make women have a giant clit. I know that from being forced to watch the Chyna sex tape once.

I didn't watch the tape, but I saw the review of it on Something Awful. It was like a worm trying to escape from a punched lasagne.

But... yeah. Roided Mary Sue is as much of a role model as Harold Shipman.

The PS3 is considered Sony's lowpoint and that moved around 80+ million units.

in comparison most of Nintendo's consoles sold anywhere between 20-40 million for their low points and the original X-Box was even less.

Naughty Dog fucking up is like Nintendo having to redo Metroid prime 4. It's just the game got leaked before their new target release date and they backtracked and just said fuck it release it.

They announced it’ll be released in June.
No way they’ll be able to rework anything, even if they’ll crunch their staff to death.
Month or two before release are enough for final testing, bug fixes and minor changes, not for making a new script, new voice overs and cutscenes.

This begs a question. I've read a few times that Naughty Dog has mulched through something like 70% of its staff over the last few years. While really high turnover in some fields is pretty much well-known (ask anyone in transportation), that level isn't normal, and is usually something that gets the bean counters concerned. One has to wonder why nobody raised a single red flag on this one until it hit critical mass.

Of course, given that the Corporate parent of Naughty Dog is Sony, and specifically the same part of Sony that's brought us a ton of other ridicule-worthy fuck-ups over the last five years (Ghostbusters 2016, the Weeb Wars, etc) and recently put Sony of America in charge of its console division (a branch headquartered in California), we're almost certainly at the point where anyone who could possibly mitigate the disaster is either one of the herd or being intentionally kept out of the loop.

We can definitely tell from the DMCAs that they're terrified of this, if nothing else.

Big difference between Nintendo and Sony/MS is that Nintendo have had a policy since forever to never sell anything at a loss, which MS and Sony have continuously done. Despite the gargantuan price point which became a meme across the internet for years and years of $599 for the PS3 at launch, Sony was still losing money on every unit sold. They eventually made all of this back, of course, since their goal was to gain what they were losing on hardware back via sold software, but the business strategies between MS/Sony and Nintendo are wildly different, which is why Nintendo's finances were extremely strong even during the Wii U years, a console that sold around a tenth of what the Wii did before it.

Nintendo had Pokemon propping it up in merch sales. It had nothing to do with the actual game software, just selling stuff like toys and plushies and clothing items. It was the non-game stuff that was keeping them afloat.

You need to understand that most of those people are entry/junior level workers - they are threaded as disposable cheap labor. And juniors are unlikely to tell about crunches/terrible leads because they have a giant college debt on their shoulders and they don’t want to lose any chance to get a job.
Plus this game took 7 fucking years - of course they’ll cut off workers they don’t need because Sony doesn’t have a money printer. It’s easier to crunch one worker without compensating their overtime then having a team of specialists in one field who will deliver product on deadline without much trouble.

I've only played the first Tomb Raider reboot, and I enjoyed it, but it never seemed "woke" to me.
I wasn't saying it was, though I can see how it could be read that way.

I was more talking about how they spent a super tanker of money on it, thinking Tomb Raider was too big to fail, only to have it fail to meet expectations. They did the same with Dead Space 3. Not woke, considered too big to fail, but shit the bed completely and failed to meet expectations.

So you'll be able to change the colour of the big bang at the end then.
You get to choose what kind of golf club you kill the franchise with.

That was my memory of it as well. Sony turned it around right at the end of the PS3 when they were being sold for cheap and the 360 dashboard was a mess, but even then I only knew a few PS3 owners.
Xbox fans were pathetic enough to go out and buy 3,4,5+ duplicate 360 consoles
No. They took them back to the store for a replacement or refund. Those that couldn't tried the towel trick or took them to the local pawn shop.

I just can't get over how fucking UGLY this model looks. Its disgusting. Its got all the wrong proportions even for a fucking man. I've never played a game where you purposely play something this awful looking. I mean, fucking seriously. She's built like someone from the 'strongest men' competitions. Its ugly as fucking hell.

Her head barely even fits on that body. Why would ANYONE want to play as this thing? Not even good texturing and shading can save that fucking genderless abortion. Its an absolutely disgusting character model.

Its like it adds insult to injury. Not only do you have to press buttons to beat Ellie to death (sorry, she's not surviving with all that damage, no matter what the faggot Druckman says) but you have to play as this fucking ugly monstrosity. Like, not even remotely attractive in any way, shape or form.

Videogames are ESCAPISM. I don't want to play as an obese man (except as a joke or something) OR an ugly woman. I don't want EITHER. Trashy protagonists are fine, but she's just flat out beaten with the ugly stick combined with HGH and Steroids. Just fucking awful.

You will NEVER get people to accept this person as beautiful, attractive or remotely sympathetic. She's flat out ugly. Jesus I thought the cutscenes were bad, the gameplay is fucking worse. There is simply no way to justify this. Muscular women DO NOT LOOK LIKE THIS.

It has to be his fetish, there's no other reason. His fetish is musclebound trannies beating cis women to death. This is straight up sadisim, to everyone involved.

Edit:

LOL, at the butthurt fanboys. Keep clinging to the delusion that Sony and Microsoft are in some sort of fierce battle that can go either way.

Microsoft with the 360:

* Launched a year/year and a half early
* Was 200 dollars cheaper
* Had the luxury of selling tens of millions of duplicate consoles due to the RRoD, disk destroying drives, jet engine loud Ghostbusters style external powerbrick
* And had the entire mainstream gaming press actively rooting for them

And still got outsold every year on the market by the PS3 and ended up in last place worldwide.

A single game crashing and burning isn't going to make a bit of difference to the overall console market.

lol lurk moar faggot or go to ResetEra.

This is a good argument, but they also bled industry veterans and actually qualified talent. Those leaving isn't just damaging for the product, you're opening things up so they'll be hired by your competition, since they're the ones that actually know what they're doing.

The insanely high staff-turnover is a time-honored indicator that either the job sucks a mountain of dicks, or parts of the project are being mismanaged to a hilarious degree. Thanks to the leaker, we know both were the case.

If you look after the hit, there's some of Joel's brains on the club.

idk all the other narrative choices aside, it is sadistically violent. and it's fucking unending too. this is what my grandpa must have percieved when he saw my sega and got mad at my parents lol.

liveleak gore aside, I wonder what the root appeal is. because it's not a doomguy power trip. this is more similar to audiences getting all attached to a game of thrones character so they can get their skull squished and raped. is it catharsis? validation of dark worldview? company to your misery? I'm not a prude but I've also seen enough shit irl that I don't want to boot up my gamerstation 2020 and watch this.
