Good video on dam spillways. He also has some other relevant videos.
Good video. It sounds like the most likely risk downstream from Three Gorges is that the reservoir could fill and they would have to increase the outflow from the dam to match the inflow entering the reservoir, worsening the already bad flooding in Wuhan and many other areas. Perhaps doomers could get their way if the subsurface spillways are obstructed by silt and prevent the dam from releasing enough outflow. Then it would explode in a nuclear cataclysm that would alter the earth's orbit.

Here's a little info on the maximum outflow from the noted and reliable engineering outfit Yangtze River Cruises:
The 483-meter spillway, located in the middle of the main dam, has 23 bottom outlets dimensioned at 79 meters. Each of its 22 surface sluice gates measures 8 meters wide. The maximum discharge capacity of the TGP is 116,000 cubic meters, the biggest in the world.

That's a lot of water it can dump downstream. Given the flooding already occurring, I'm sure that would be the last resort, so if China turns the faucet on full blast they might be desperate.

Well bois

Heavy rain inbound from tibet. Smoke em if you got em

Damn, didn't think the world would get fucked by rain. Why couldn't it be something cool, like an alien invasion or some crazy ass cult summoning an eldritch abomination or something?

Actually, heres a fun little game to play while we wait for more information; how would YOU prefer the world to end? Honestly I'd rather it be the alien invasion; getting assfucked for all eternity by Ghur-Tuul the Endless does NOT sound like a good time, and atleast the aliens would turn me into food when I kicked the bucket.

Ide be alright with an alien invasion tbh. Be pretty cool to know we arent alone. Sucks becoming a hot pocket for some alien tho i suppose

But any alien that wanted the planet wouldnt need lasers and anal probes. They just need to make a virus, blow up some dams under nuke plants and let us kill outselves first. Kinda like 2020 i guess

That’s Lhasa rain....
And kind of poetic justice if a storm from Tibet takes out 400 million Han Chinese.
we never hear about ‘free Tibet’ any more do we?

how would I like the world to end? quickly I guess, and preferably a few billion years from now.

We dont hear about free tibet anymore because its been demographically annexed by immigration...its like moving a million niggers into fargo north dakota. Its gone.

When the dalai lama goes that will be the end of it all for eternity

Same is happening to the Uighurs

Holy shit we're on plague number what of the Ten Plagues of China now? I don't know who Chink Moses is, but Winnie the Pooh should really think about freeing his people if he wants China to survive.

Trump is our best bet to get the news to the people. Or Tucker. At least when Trump mentions it, the MSM will be tripping over themselves to discredit Trump.
He should talk about how great the Chinese government's response to the flooding is and how it could be much worse. The news will be about how much of a disaster it is and nobody will see the irony or remember praising China's COVID response.

The population down river from the Dam is around the size of the USA plus some. Someone in the thread said 400 million. Also, tons of manufactoring happens down river. Including the making of most of the world's supply of antibiotics. This could also fuck up neighboring countries due to infux of water. The dam itself was built on top of the river bed, not into it.
Which is in and of itself insane considering the sheer amount of water it holds back along with it being near fajlt lines. I’m not overly familiar with dams, but how common is it for them to not be built into the ground?

Nah, that kind of response would be used by the Chinese to show that America was losing face and the MSM would get the memo.

I don't think you should work from the basis that Chinese construction is done with the utmost safety standards, costs and efficiency of construction be damned. I don't even believe the 3GD was advised by anyone outside China. It's literally just a way for China to wave its dick around on the international stage. If they wanted to safely dam off floodwaters, they would have built a bunch of smaller dams on tributaries instead of one huge dam at the headwater.

With that said, I'm not a hydrologist or dam expert, but I don't think it's common. Some geological surveys have been posted in the /pol/ thread at times, and it seems that there were too many geological problems at the site for it to be advisable to construct anything like this. Plus building the dam immediately changed the surrounding geology, putting pressure on a variety of fault lines that were otherwise not being stressed. I'll try and find a construction analysis but I really doubt something legitimate exists given the CCP focus on always being excellent, with all naysayers blackballed, disappeared, or exiled.

Wasn't Mao the guy that initially came up with the idea for the dam in the first place? The same guy that thought there would be nothing wrong with killing all the sparrows?

I hope we don't send one red cent of aid to these plague rats.

We should send soldiers. Seems like that's where things are going anyways, so if the dam pops that would be the time to strike.
